Thirty Days in the Hole

Is that where MillerCarbon is? Can we expect to see him on the 9th?

440hz guitarsam was a wild one

was he the one who used to shove wads of paper into light sockets?

@csmgolf

MC and George can both stay gone. This place is much better without them.

1) i tend to agree, it would be nice if they could contribute here and bring their knowledge and experience, without the attitude, drama, childish trigger-happiness - but these two, even if they have all good intentions (an open question) have shown that are quite unable to do that

2) that said, i suspect one or both may actually still be present, laying low, using pseudonyms... trying on revised personas

George definitely had a kangaroo loose in the top paddock, don’t know if he could pull off a sock puppet. MC - plain NPD, probably here right now.

A few days ago I PM'd MC asking if he was okay. No reply.

He may be very ill or worse.

He lives very near my brother's home and always offered an Open House

policy which I appreciated. Last year I took him up on a short visit.

He is very convinced about several things I can't buy into personally.

His writing style hits me like fingernails on a chalkboard.

That said I still do not miss his posts.  Some of

the others that have gone away the last 24 months are

sorely missed. Ralph??

Thank you for knocking the scab off a healing wound OP 🙄

As the saying goes “ Even From Beyond The Grave “ this Toxic individual engenders Fractious Disharmony upon this forum … Good Riddance

I think it's pretty sad so many people are in favor of shutting other people up. I think it's sad so many people get their feelsies hurt by reading something that they want to banish people. I didn't care for everything MC said and he could be obnoxious but I'm an adult and can get over it without wanting people disappeared. As I said in an earlier thread that was deleted, we used to be a people who would hear both sides of an issue and form our own opinion. That's becoming a lost art apparently. Too many people want only one message and group think.

@pdreher , yes, he does that sometimes...puts down liberals and thinks its cute.

That's the pot calling the kettle black eh?

I miss MC as much as I will miss NY, JM, GN, and The others on Spotify.

Not at all.

MillerCarbon is the very best on this site, a bit pithy, but very knowledgeable.  I miss his posts a bunch.

To young, to old, just right.. 153624. Inline 6 firing order. See I share.. :-) They are all the same..

Even the diesels?

tuberist - agree! MC is a joke. Notice that he is selling his beloved raven on US Audio Mart so people on agon won't notice that he is selling something that he touted about being the best. Maybe he has been talking to nelson pass lately and Nelson convinced him that his products are the best. I wonder where he will be selling his Tetons? probably on Canada's audio mart

@whiteknee

Very true.

MC personality is highly charged, and his sarcasm can be devastating.  However underneath it he radiated a bit of an aura that while money in this hobby mattered, that there were audio principles which couldn't be bought.  Now discovering that he was a  secret shill for a few product lines blows a hole in his credibility

I can't imagine someone having the free time to post 15000 times in a few years. On top of that many of his posts were lengthy. I could do without the 12000 awesome product posts. In this realm when someone really goes on about how great a product is, it generally shows they don't get out much. I'd appreciate a miller light reincarnation.

@femoore12

This obsession with MC has crossed over into Mania.

Best posts of this thread. I'll just add this. If you look for the bad in someone, you will always find it. Likewise, if you look for the good in people, you will find it too.

I once had an Old Testament Prof who's theology I disagreed with. However his PhD was in OT, and he taught it from a historical POV. I soaked up what he taught, NOT because I agreed with his overall view but because he knew something that I didn't and I wanted to learn.

The sad thing is the hate that lives here on this BB. This "mania" is a product of hate. Its either hate or childishness. So are you a hater or a child? Or both?

Well, er... while we are at it. To and Too are not interchangeable. Ok, carry on.

Perhaps MC is moabbing around at Tekton or burning in and installing wire hangers at Porsche. Could be designing a vacuum cleaner that’ll suck the dust harmlessly around tweaked flooring. Could be he’s watched the movie ‘Hook’ and decided to stay in Never never land..It's all in fun, a great hobby, enjoy the music.

Cheers

Thanks "MC", I was able to upgrade my system of separates with your advice without spending six figures.  BlackHawk took some time to get use too but it has proven to be the best investment for my money. (Had an SAE 2600 and CT-7, 4000 with La Scala's). You see I'm not rich or well off.

Reading some of this post reminds me of "attack of the clones" you can't beat them join.  take if for what you want it to be and move on.

It has taken some time to get the break in time recommended for the Blackhawk. Most fire it up for a few hours on the weekend.  For my music it was the best upgrade made. Spent three times the cost on secondhand products (AudioGon) included that did not live up to the hype of the owner.

MC advised "don't throw good money after bad" which is probably better than any of the other info found in many of these threads.

If looking for advice in the future, MCs' threads will be the first one that is will look too can't recall many others except "oldhvymec4", Mopar or LS, what your flavor.  Take what you need and leave the rest. Just enjoy what you like and don't try to like what someone else enjoys.

+1 @ artemus_5

The Monsters are not only due on Maple Street; they are here.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Is there something else? :-)

What is a diesel? 2500 psi. More pressure is fine, but LESS pressure, it will not fire. It is NOT a diesel..

2500 psi and a persons name "Diesel"

@bjesien  Agreed, I think Oscar Wilde said it best (and he only needed 6 words):

"Brevity is the soul of wit."

mr_m 1,3,4,2 makes the sound better! (Yes, I’m kidding)

MC is/was a source of considerable Knowledge/opinions but when derived with a sledge hammer or a scolding ...you can guess the rest.

Proselytizing to the point of being shrill is a turn off. (My speakers, Amp(s), room, car, political leanings are the best = Zzzzzz)

He had some good advice to offer sometimes. And I lean more towards him on the political spectrum. That said, he was still an ass the majority of the time which killed his message for me.

Hello,

I’ve not been posting much.

For those of you who are looking for someone who is contentious across a wide spectrum, so you can rally on one side or some given other.. well I can help out if you wish. I can throw my hat into the ring and be a good sub, if necessary.

I’m a bit unflappable --- too much audio forum scar tissue. Which makes me a good target or rallying point. I’ve been posting and arguing about audio, on line, since the early 90’s.

I’ve known and thrived in the brutatily of the audio interwebs almost a decade longer than anyone you’ve ever dealt with. In almost all instances and times, as a singular target of a broad swath of frothing outrage.

Which means the same thing it always does: Beware an old audiophile in a realm where young men puke out early....

So, if youse all (any of youse) feelin’ the loss of MC and George, let me know. I can provide that old timey feelin’....

Do I miss MC on this forum? Yes, I do. Was he arrogant? Opinionated? Exasperating? Politically incorrect? Disruptive? Yes, all that and more. But it seemed like performance art; I mean, who in his right mind would appropriate a photo of Einstein as his avatar image that wasn't deliberately trying to provoke? You haters, get over yourselves! Enjoy his posts for what they were.

And what were they, besides exasperating, and all the rest? Well, for one thing, always articulate and witty; MC raised the entertainment value of this forum more than anyone else. AND he was well-informed about audio. And generous with advice, publicly and privately. His advice didn't always work for me, but it was always intelligent and worth trying.

The very fact that he remains a topic of discussion in his own right, contentious or not, is something of an accomplishment. Forums like this are not just about their nominal subjects, they're also about the personalities who participate. And none was more colorful than MC. I hope he returns.

Hello,

I truly value all of your insights but that includes MC’s advise. It’s not like he did not own what he touted about. He might be selling his current amp to get the one he really wanted because it was not available at the time. I also thought it was cool he invited people into his home to listen to his system while so many of these shows are shut down. I read this forum because when it comes to audio I believe you have way more experience than I do especially since I got into 2 channel about 5 years ago. I don’t like when people belittle people but I have also heard MC has helped people when it really counts. I had a friend send me pics of Mahgister’s system. I appreciate he put in the time and money to test out the tweaks in his system. Also, he saved me on a cartridge mistake. That is what I think this forum is about. I have received a few thanks from members I have helped. So, Thank you all for saving me money and time. I will try to pass it forward.

“ MC is/was a source of considerable Knowledge “

Really ! How much of this “ considerable knowledge “ was genuinely new ground and not merely common knowledge to most experienced HiFi guys here.

Plagiarism delivered with a Superior air of having wrote the book instead of merely having read it … Good Riddance

If you've interacted with MC and had a negative experience with him and you are happy to leave that's not being a hater.  That's having good boundaries and expecting others to behave civilly.

Stop victim blaming.

My two cents on the topic FWIW:

1)  MC had some useful opinions but nothing particularly unique or original.   Most of his advice regarding phonos was useful.  other things, not so much.  HE operated under the assumption that worked for him was always the best thing  out there which is not true.  HEnce a narrow not broad view of things.  VEry biased and opinionated which for some may be just what the doctor ordered.

2)  He did seem to spend a lot of time trying to help others here and that was appreciated so that is a good thing.

3)  He was good at promoting his way and ideas but not so good at listening to needs of others that might differ from his

4) Most importantly, on multiple instances he demonstrated a lack of integrity flinging false accusations in public against those who might not see things his way always.   Very bad.    Trust is a key ingrdient to any successful long lasting relationship

5)  He publicly insulted and belittled others including others with credentials in this industry  far beyond his.  Also many highly respected members who did not tow the line.

Lack of integrity and inability to get along with others is the deal breaker for me.   That will get you nowhere in most places where things get done and make good things happen.

That's all.    I judge behavior, not people.  We all have our faults and need to do better!

Cheers!

The straw for me was when MC mentioned coaching a colleague on what gear to buy then charging a 500.00 fee for his effort. I do that s&*t all the time for nothing other than the gratitude. I'm happy to help steer a novice in the right direction.

Clearly he looked at this site as a ripe source of income. Nothing wrong with that, lots of people do.   This site is a business.  You just have to be transparent about it. Again, it’s an issue of integrity.

Is being a big shot on an Audiogon forum, with an ironic picture of Einstein as his avatar, really that big a deal? I find some of his opinions deplorable, but it doesn't matter enough for me to comment on them to him. To me, he's just 'some guy on the internet'.

They should ask him to pay $1 per post and engagement gets one cent back per message. That might slow things down.

is that really true @mapman @ozzy62?

wow, if so, truly deplorable in my view... this is supposed to be a community of hobbyists first and foremost

It may be a community of hobbyists, but please realize this site is a business. Revenue keeps it going. People sell things, often expensive things. The forum is just an adjunct and anything goes as long as the rules or laws are not broken.

Reminds me of the child’s story of the frog boasting he can out drink an Ox at the pond….Pow, he was wrong !
Goodbye my friend

IT’s like watching the movie Titanic. You know the ship is going to sink eventually due to bad decision making but hold out hope perhaps still to some degree that it will make the needed adjustments and sail on.
