The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@jreiter - Styx opened for Marty Robbins??!!! That's inspired! Dang, somebody should start a thread about the most unlikely-billed shows they've ever gone to..
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@kqvkq9 - I moved to San Francisco in 1973 and I've been here ever since; I was in the retail and wholesale record business from '74 - '84 so I got to see a lot of shows for free.  The New Riders weren't really any wing of the Grateful Dead; just...
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@alvinnir2 - I've got that immense Woodstock box set and was able to hear all the bands that played there in order; Santana was indeed awesome, and they were the first band there that actually ROCKED.
The best opening act you've ever seen & heard?
@kqvkq9 - I was at a number of those shows - Who's Dead (I've seen them hundreds of times; at every one of those shows, they often stopped between songs and talk and tune up and all that. I don't think that was special for you, but who knows?), Mo...
How often do you upgrade turntable ?
@huang - Not unless you want to!
Do you agree with John Atkinson (and me)?
I'll always do physical media as well as stream because I like having physical album cover art to look at and info to read, and all the extras, booklets, etc you get with deluxe box sets, be they digital or vinyl. Streaming is a good way for me to...
«40% Of Audiophiles Are Dying And No One Is Doing Anything About It!»
@smodking1 - My thoughts are that manufacturers of products that appeal to a tiny niche, which is what audiophile gear is in the grand scheme of things, would be wasting incredible amounts of money advertising in high-profile, general purpose maga...
What's the weakest link in my stereo set up? I live in a townhome, so limited on space.
The room will have more effect on sound than the gear. If there's anything you can do in that regard that your spouse would approve of - and some sound treatments can still be very attractive aesthetically - Makes a big difference whether you're o...
Becoming Led Zeppelin
@pehare - I got to see them in '69 at the Laurel Pop Festival in Laurel, MD. They were told they had to finish up their set so they said, "One more?" - they got permission and played 'How Many More Times' for over 30 minutes! But they still weren'...
Are Headphones Fit for Serious Music Listening?
@oddiofyl - I had a Quicksilver headphone amp for awhile; excellent value hand-built tube headphone amp for under $1000. Klipsch is not known for their headphones, though, and for good reason; they're best at making speakers; headphones are a rela...
Hearing Aids
Things like hearing aids and headphones can use very small speakers because the sound has to travel almost no distance to the eardrum through almost no air; Regular speakers have a great deal more to have to contend with.
Perhaps the most annoying myth in audio of 2025? Talking about Loudness!
From my experience, if it doesn't distort or hurt your ears, it sounds better louder.

Do you agree with John Atkinson (and me)?
@bdp24 - A friend of mine who used to work for the Banana Records chain and later Capitol Records used to be the manager of Cornell Hurd and the Mondo Hotpants Orchestra....
Equipemnt to Music to Lyrics
Some artists' lyrics are so good that they can stand on their own just fine even without music. Some are banal, even if the music is good. But I haven't made any moves from anything to anything else. I see no mutual exclusivity between gear, music...
