What's going on with the audio market?
Got the paddles out for this thread. I was going to chime in on the tariff thread, but it got a bit heated and was shut down. I’ve been buying and selling gear for nearly 30 years—more than most, but probably modest compared to some here. Early o...
White cabinet popularity?
I had a pair of Verity Leonore in White and they were beautiful.  Paired with my Leben cs600x they played with style. The words nimble, rich, detailed come to mind.   I soon went after the newer Otello. These had a better foundation and I found ...
whatsbestforum - what's going on
Only got banned from one site, the Leben Facebook site because the owner of Leben told me he had a kit to make the old 600 into the new version. The guy that runs the site, and I think imports to the US got prickly about it. Probably couldn’t affo...
Speakers for 2nd System!
This is a great project. Look at the Devore oBaby, above Audio Note, you can chase those way over budget if you want, Fyne makes a small speaker but not sure of the power needed. Good luck and please keep us in the loop as you put this together.
Is there a ROON sound?
@ghasley lol hope all is well out there!
What is your scariest moment in High End audio?
When she reached her hand down my front pocket and the receipt was in there.
Ears hurt when listening after changing speakers
I owned one pair of speakers that made my ears ring and physically hurt. Too bad because I really did enjoy the sound. Not sure what was up with them, I moved on.
Informed/Insightful information requested on Tannoy GRF loudspeakers
I owned the Fyne 501SP and found them to be a little dull. I powered them with four amp over time (I like amps) amps- Leben 600, Luxman 550AII and Audionote Cobra and a Coda CSIB. There was something I just couldn't get into with the mids. They ju...
What type of speaker would sound better?
You say lower quality vs higher quality and that’s a very subjective decision to make. You should get an idea what matters to you. Personally I would always go on the quality side, but I haven’t experienced much hearing degradation and understand ...
What is a good all around high quality speaker to purchase?
I’ve owned and would recommend Devore, Proac, Verity, Harbeth, Reynaud to your mix. Owned a bunch of others many years ago like Vandersteen original 5, but they are out dated in sound for the practicality of owning them (extremely heavy). Old Wils...
Best Holographic Speakers ~$7k per pair
@oceanandmountains Devores can have an incredible amount of texture and beautiful tone. There is a certain wholeness to the presentation, much more than just frequencies blending together. You need the right room and amps. So much better than Kli...
Do most people prefer tight bass or non tight bass?
You really need to find the right amp for the right speaker. You can also consider good subs, because a speaker with good bass will cost you $20k plus. Subs will also give you some flexibility to play with tubes, which many enjoy for the sound qua...
Which would be preferable, an older Audio Research Corp. VT130 or a newer SS Rotel 1552?
I agree with the speakers. B&W's are the issue. Get a more efficient speaker and drive with lower power tubes. That VT130 is old, heavy, and expensive to ship when it needs work. If it's clean or been redone maybe but most of the stuff for sal...
Joseph Audio RM-33LE vs DeVore Gibbon 8, my experience.
Glad you like them. Are you going to polish and flip them?
Audio Physic Virgo I (or Virgo II): still considered a very good or great speaker?
Only heard on AP in a big untreated room. I think any designer would argue that they came across a significant gain in performance to move ahead with a new model. Sometimes they get an overstock of a part and design a speaker around this abundance...
