Need recommendations on 15ft speaker cables

Hi,

I find myself ina situation where I need around 15ft cable pair. Currently I have blue jean Rca cables running. I have upgraded all the other cables and this is the final frontier. Online it is pretty tricky to find used cables of this length.. I see transparent reference cables mostly, which I learned are custom tuned for specific gear..

Looking for suggestions from the community on options that will provide SQ upgrade in my situation through speaker cable change..

Would be most helpful to know what cables you’re using now, what specific improvements/sound characteristics you’re looking for, and your budget.  But just for one idea, these Pine Tree Audio cables have gotten very good feedback here and are very reasonably priced.

I am currently using blue jean Rca cables which are all copper 10awg I believe. I have 805d4 speakers. My budget is up to 2.5k.

Well, these Acoustic Zen Satori cables should be a substantial improvement, and a 15’ pair along with their matching jumpers to replace the 805’s stock jumpers would still be well below your max price at $1910.  Best of luck.

+1 for the Satori’s, they made a huge difference in my system and provide a clean natural sound.

Townshend Audio F-1 Fractals.

I have a pair and they are excellent. And the way they treat their copper wires, the length doesn't matter. Nor if 1 cable length is different from the other.

It doesn't matter as long as they aren't 20 gauge or smaller. All speaker wires sound the same. Save your money and buy more music.

Transparent cables are extremely, well, transparent. I own Transparent. Only the highest levels within the Transparent lines is tuned to specific components. They are outstanding in systems where you want the wires to get out of the way. What are your components? If your components are only just adequate, then they can reveal things best covered up. I highly recommend them for audiophile systems.

On the other hand Cardas wires are built to be more forgiving at the low end and more transparent and detailed at the high end. So, typically these will be a great match for less than top of the line audiophile components.

Mogami.  They make a quad conductor speaker cable which add up to about 10 gauge (it's metric so not exactly).  You can find the 2 conductor at Parts Express and I think the 4 conductor at Markertek

My advice is to buy a high quality but affordable cable set to use as a benchmark before spending big money.  Erik mentioned Mogami, and Canare is another, both available from World's Best Cables on Amazon, see: Canare 4S11 or Mogami 3082

Once you are accustomed to these, you can try borrowing some Cardas, Audioquest, Nordost, Transparent or other higher priced cables.  It will help you gain perspective on the value of spending more, and we'd love to hear the outcome once you've tried a few.

@ghdprentice thanks for the note. I see transparent reference cables available in market. I was told that they could be custom tunes for past owner's gear.. do you know if that is the case or it should not matter

I cannot find "Blue Jean Rca cables" listed as a speaker cable on their website. If those cables are in fact an all copper, 10 awg speaker cable, then they should be sufficient for your B&W 805 speakers, assuming a 15-foot length and a competently powered amplifier. What are you trying to change or improve?

Ok, then same question, "What are you trying to change or improve?"

There is nothing inherently bad about 10 awg stranded copper speaker cables.  Since you are looking for cables that "provide SQ upgrade," is there something about the sound that you don't like, or that you hope would change with different cables?  Otherwise, you are going to get a bunch of brand name cables recommended by a variety of posters here.  At that point, if you are curious, your options become buying and trying different cables or maybe looking into the lending library at The Cable Company and then you can figure out if something sounds better in your system.  Let us know how it works out.

or reach out to this guy and ask for 15ft AZ Holograms, assuming you are OK with a pretty fat minimally flexible cable that sounds awesome

No affiliation - bought mine from him and super happy with price, authenticity and service.

@mitch2 I am expecting that with a better cable I will get more tonal density, perhaps openness and sound staging. With B&W I am planning just copper since I have heard silver can increase harshness. Ultimate goal is to get warmer yet detailed and punchy sound.

its all a crap shoot....the only way to know if a cable benefits or hinders a system to your liking is to try them in your system.  Try to buy with an option for return. I had B&W 800's or 01's. which tended to be bright.  ,,,,have Vandersteens now.

I just upgraded to Canare oxygen-free copper, which is designated 4S11G, possibly the best speaker cable made. It replaced some temporary 12 AWG power cord to the bass panels. There was a minor improvement.

Moral of the story - don’t spend big on cables expecting a big improvement. Spend on components. IMO  YMMV

OP,

The Transparent that is customizable is many thousands of dollars, this is what you are looking at? But they are not likely to make things warmer.. the warm has to be in your components to start with. Typically that is not the case.

Given your goal, you do not want Transparent. I would try Cardas clear… maybe Clear Beyond. Clear Reflections will be even warmer.

My Thai suggest that if you are currently using blue jeans step up to their sister Co. iconoclast

Given this I’d reiterate my prior recommendation for the Acoustic Zen Satoris.

@saurabhgarg

Audio Advisor has several different Audioquest speaker cables in balk. I bought a set that they made, using the Rocket 88 cable and decent banana plugs for a lot less then AQ charges. The biggest difference is they don’t come with the battery pack. I’m betting that they will make a set speaker cables any length you want.

All the best.

I like SR's offerings.

I agree that you probably want to stick with copper as silver will probably sound a little harsh with your speakers.

Check out usedcable.com and see what they have in stock....they usually have a pretty good selection of upper-end stuff.

Try the Canare 4S11 linked above.

Two of the 15 foot runs will be  around $140 from Amazon.

I used it (bulk cable) for 3 months and can recommend  it.

It's s PITA to strip so go with the ready made cables.

IME in over 50 years at this, the best speaker cable and best deal, by far, are Silversmith Fideliums. 15’ is long but 2 meters of Fideliums are $1200.

They replaced $6K in my system that are now relatively junk.

They have some amazing reviews including Greg Weaver’s YouTube who says they are the “Product of the Century”!

I also need a long cable run, around 17ft. I had Blue Jeans Canare 4S11 for a while and I thought it was a great cable for the money once it breaks in. I decided to upgrade and went with Acoustic Zen Hologram cables. The cables have excellent tonality and are a real step up in every way in my system from the Canare. I spoke to Robert at Acoustic Zen and he recommended the Hologram for a long run.

If you are interested, reach out to Robert for advice and pricing.

I agree with Terry9....components are a top priority especially speakers. I bought the Canare OF wire by the foot from Performanceaudio at a great price since I'm always looking for a great deal. I then assembled them myself with Nakamichi banana jacks. Ebay has a vendor from Minneapolis that has Canare wire already assembled  at various lengths and colors if you don't want to dink around with assembly.

Just get any 12AWG cable, or even 14 or 16 for that length. You will NOT hear any difference between any OF Copper wire. Heck, you could use a coat hanger. So don't waste your money unless you're wanting something that 'looks nice', because performance won't change at all.

The OP is already using 10 awg stranded copper speaker cables, which is plenty big for the run length.  Other than a few posters suggesting Canare 4S11, just about every poster has given a different cable recommendation.  BTW, 4S11 is actually a smaller stranded copper speaker cable than what the OP is using now, at 11 awg when configured in star-quad geometry.

At this point, he/she either jumps on the buy/try cable merry go-round or tries the Cable Company or others that will lend cables in order to evaluate which of many cable offerings he/she likes best, or if they even hear a reliable difference between cables.  A lot of us have done the buy/try route, but it is expensive and time-consuming.

Good advice: Mogami/WorldBestCables/Canare/Belden (actual cable manufacturers) or other Speaker cables on Amazon. Read the descriptions/diagrams and reviews carefully. And you can return easily!

Bad advice: Higher priced cables from resellers so called major brands (they buy or import cables and dress them with thick jackets and you pay 10x 20x more

I have a friend, a former concert pianist, who has one of the best systems I've ever heard.  He has some pricey interconnects and even a power cable or two, but I asked him once what speaker cable he was using, it looked sort of rugged.  He said, "You won't believe me if I tell you."  So he told me anyway, and I tried it, and it's the best speaker cable I've ever heard.  I've sent some to friends and they love it too.  It's 8 AWG stranded THHN combined with (yes, really) 18 AWG 5-conductor copper sprinkler cabling, with one conductor snipped and the other four twisted together in pairs for positive and negative.  You can parallel the two or use them separately for bi-wiring, which I do--the 18 AWG for the highs and the 8 AWG for the lows.  For termination I use large copper offset lugs, snipped to make spade lugs.  Or you can get large-size screw-on banana plugs.  I strap them together with cable ties.

I like Blue Jeans cables, especially their interconnects and digital spdif, they just sound NORMAL.  But I like this rig better than their speaker cable.  Cost about $100 for a 15 foot pair, and you can buy both cables in bulk from Amazon and save some money.  How do they sound?  Big, rich, smooth, open, plenty of detail but absolutely no fussiness or phasiness.  That's my free tip for the day. ;-)

I can highly recommend the Anti-Cables 4.2 Flex speaker cables, best "pre made" speaker cables that I've ever tried.....I use them on my Clayton Shaw Caladan and Buchardt Audio S400 MkII speakers. They come with a 30 money back guarantee policy, and a bunch of vendors use them at audio shows

If you are willing to go down the DIY avenue, you can make some incredible cables with screw on connectors. Neotech, Furutech, Oyaide, or VH Audio; and some WBT or Furutech screw on connectors.

Whatever you do, don't believe the people saying all cables sound the same. You might think that if the rest of your components don't have the resolution, but the fact is that cables matter.
