Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical
Interesting…I recently watched a review of the LAB 12 reference NOS Tube DAC and was intrigued.
We Need To Talk About Ones And Zeroes
Why can’t we just be happy that we get high quality music files from an almost unlimited library delivered intact, so that we can use whatever streamer and DAC sounds best to us? Perhaps video is a good analogy… We all get the same data from App...
??? How Do You Determine How Far You Can Take An Amp When Choosing Speakers ???
I suggest something like some vintage tannoy’s with the 12 or 15 inch concentrics (monitor gold) that maybe need a bit of work. High efficiency, amazing sound especially the bass response.  @mulveling may have some advice here if that is of inter...
Why most $3000 and lower DAC’s sound almost identical
I can’t comment on the OP’s premise in terms of technology and methodology but I’m not in agreement that arbitrary price points matter.  As an example, I recently listened to a $300k Nagra system with Wilson speakers - I think the DAC is almost $...
Garrard 301 - Project
Cool, let us know what you think of the Tele’s. my cart is MSL Signature Platinum, TT is Clearaudio Innovation with Universal arm Ive order a pair of the Sovtek LPS so I can compare with the stock set up
Garrard 301 - Project
I bought a used Softone Model 4 last week. It easily bests my GoldNote PH-10 with PS-10 LPS. I’ve rolled NOS Mullard, Telefunken Diamond Mark, RCA 6201, and GE, as well as some Gold Lion reissues that came with it. I prefer the tele’s in the pho...
How much do I need to spend to make vinyl sound better than digital?
@lalitk thanks and agree with you on the solid advice from @sns

@lalitk What are the $1K and $12K phono stages you mentioned? Thanks.
Throwing 2 High End brands together will not automatically equal success. Thoughts?
@calvinj the answer is of course not. Unfortunately learning this by trial and error is quite expensive.

@mahgister I have just moved and my new listening area is much better theoretically than the previous space and out of the gate the system sounds better, but the new room has its own / new problems acoustically. I know it is not the gear. And I h...
Technics SL-1300G Turntable issues
@mattmiller an opinion is one thing, but silly statements with no basis in fact… Have you heard an SL-1000RE-S?   Definitely not mid-fi or a DJ turntable (nevertheless the original 1200’s were formidable)
Develop a hierarchy for phono playback
@intactaudio agree strongly with set up added to the list, and IMO that requires microscopy analysis to deal with errors such as zenith, which can be as much as +/- 5%. Wally Tools is the only source that I am aware of that provides and end-to-en...
Anyone wear gloves to handle vacuum tubes?
Yep, literally just swapped tubes in my DAC 5 minutes ago. The ones supplied with my DAC have little sticky nylon or silicone dots for grip.  I would not used the white slippery ones that came with my TT though.
Anybody ever dealt with Safe and Sound audio
My experience buying $5K floor standers from them shipped coast to coast maybe 7-8 years ago was 100% positive. In some cases (mine) they buy up manufacturers/distributors remaining inventory for discontinued products. My $5K speakers cost me $25...
Help me build up a jazz album collection. Can you suggest a must have album?
Adding to the many great suggestions… Definitely Chick Corea - Trilogy and Trilogy 2 live, and Chick Corea Akoustic Band Live are all great (Dave Weckl is crazy good on drums) If I remember correctly Chick wrote much of the music for Time Out? O...
