More potential bad news for some big names...
Also, the ownership of particular brand really doesn't mean much. Either the current owners or the new owners have the potential to sink or swim. Usually, however, new owners will bring a cash infusion to help save a company on the rocks.
More potential bad news for some big names...
Frankly, I'm surprised it's taken this long for some of the big names to be in big trouble. Every time I go to an audio show, I'm amazed at the high prices of gear and wonder how many brands can stay in business. I have a household income of about...
Need recommendations on 15ft speaker cables
Whatever you do, don't believe the people saying all cables sound the same. You might think that if the rest of your components don't have the resolution, but the fact is that cables matter.
PREAMPLIFIER UPGRADE QUESTION
Don't leave out the Wyred4Sound STP-SE. It has the unique properties of both passive and non-passive architecture. Very neutral without sounding dead.
When Was The Audio Golden Age?
The Golden Age is right now. Very high-quality equipment is available for pennies-on-the-dollar compared to to just 10 or 15 years ago. And the information about hi-end is just a click away. Not to mention, there are probably more smaller companie...
Stereophile review of the $30,000 tekton speakers
I've heard them and thought they had decent sound for the money, but they still look rather cheap for that money. Those drivers look especially cheap. No way would I pay $30K for their best, however.
Value of a preamp?
For people going straight from their DAC to amplifier, you don't know what you're missing. It's been a huge difference for me in several iterations of my systems through the years.
Yes, cables do make a difference -- regardless of price...
@ donavabdear Because distance matters. The miles of current to your system don't matter as long as it arrives cleanly - it never carries the music. The points of contact inside your components don't matter near as much because they are so shor...
Yes, cables do make a difference -- regardless of price...
Cables certainly make a difference. If you're not hearing it, then it is one (or more) of the following issues: 1) Your hearing is just not good enough; 2) Your system does not have the resolution to allow you to hear the difference; 3) Your liste...
Borresen Loudspeakers
Wow, I get a strong hate vibe from some of the comments on here. What’s particularly disturbing is that I’d bet the majority of the haters have not actually heard the speakers. So much more goes into a quality speaker design than the size of the w...
Need a big favor picking a preamp
Wyred4Sound STP-SE stage 2 is a giant killer. But, if you want to spend the big bucks - Boulder would be my choice.
Preamp vs DAC vs Streamer
You left off the Wyred4Sound STP-SE preamp. I have the basic $2K version and found it better than my P6 (which I've since sold).
DAC as pre amp
The vast majority of DACs are just not as good as a dedicated preamp. I know the skeptics out there will say digital is digital, but it's more complicated than that. The quality of the gain is what missing on DACs and the quality of that analog si...
Is there a way to switch one set of speakers between two sound systems?
I own the Beresford TC-7220 MkIII and cannot detect a difference in sound when going through the box or directly into the speakers. I have a highly resolved enough system that I can hear the differences that cables make, but this box does not inju...
Question: What are some of your best pieces of advise to someone new to the hobby?
It's not wrong to spend twice as much for speakers as the rest of your system. Yeah, I know, the rule for many was to spend an equal amount. But not any more. A great DAC, preamp and Class D amp can be had for around $4K (or less) that will blow a...
