How long should high quality speakers last?
A lot of variables here. A five dollar single driver with a rubber surround speaker should last almost forever. A speaker system is a completely different animal. The Capacitors in the crossover can blow at any time, but cheaper capacitors can be ...
Wifi vs ethernet revisited
Coming off a Nighthawk router, to a couple of those cheap boxes to convert the signal from electric to optical and back to electric. To a Netgear Powerline. To the other Powerline in my music room and lastly to the streamer. I started with a 100’ ...
Analog output from CD player distorted
@breguet5327  Do you have a separate DAC?  Can you take it to a local HiFi shop and hook it into a system of theirs?  Did you pay money for it?  Can you return it? Is it worth it to get it fixed??
Disagreements and Conflicts between Audiophiles have we lost our brotherhood and maturity?
@calvinj  Sadly it’s everywhere. People are more emboldened by being able to hide behind a keyboard.  For example, how many times has politics rudely popped up in our usual mundane conversations? I’m not saying there isn’t a time and place for it...
Do vacuum tube test values reflect sound quality?
I have pondered this myself, but I really don’t have a clue.  My only  experience has been that there’s a noticeable difference between mismatched tubes.  I kinda wish I could have bought a tube tester 40-50 years ago.
Repair for speaker cabinet
KEF’s service dept. might as well be bad AI. If anything is outside of their lane, they don’t have a clue!  If you have an old school piano store in your area, maybe they can fix your R3 or give you a lead on who can. All the best.
Jazz for aficionados
@alexatpos  Thanks Alex! Never heard Mel Brown before and Chicken Fat is a good listen. I know what I’ll be listening to for a while.😁
Jazz for aficionados
@stuartk  Oh ya! 😀
Jazz for aficionados
I just started listening to Wes Montgomery, The Incredible Jazz Guitar Of Wes Montgomery and starting with the first cut,  my toe was a tapin’.  Just the bass in  Airegin, has more energy in it than the two cups of coffee I’ve had today.
The new dCS Varese DAC...it is so good that all others are now relegated to history??
It will definitely give you a chance to buy last years model at a greatly reduced price.  Maybe…
Netting Over Connectors - Do They Help?
@middlemass  🤣🤣🤣
Speakers sound too bright.
Break in and room acoustics are both very important. Find a playlist, any playlist on your favorite streaming service and let them rip for a couple of days.  Then try listening to them again. Carpet, book shelves with books, curtains are some simp...
Oh no, say it ain't so.
“It ain’t so” Sorry, I couldn’t resist.😀
Lay sonus faber on the side?
No, not at all.  In fact, you can even play them that way, although they won’t sound as pretty.😀
New split AC System impact on sound.
@emergingsoul  A couple of years ago, I bought a Mitsubishi mini split for our  “TV room” and Mud room.  The outside unit is maybe five feet from my left speaker and the ceiling air mover is maybe ten feet away. Maybe because it’s only a one ton ...
