Any modern rock recommendations?

Can anyone recommend any recent rock music?  Been dragging out my classic rock albums from 60's, 70's and 80's.  Surely there must be some decent rock bands in the classic style from this century...

This is a great question. Where has that hard driving, heavy power chord music gone?? I want that kick drum in the chest type of power drive Rock. Gone the way of the dinosaur.

The top of Americas rock list is OLD Bruce Stringbean falling down on stage. Pathetic.

The best I've found is Japanese. They are rocking out on great music.Band Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila. They got the sound and YES, it's really quite good.

Listen to this...

Wo Fat does some stuff on his guitar, really like Analog Man. The truth needs to be told.
hope these qualifies for the list.

@jtucker give these a spin and maybe support further by getting them on any physical format or digital format if you end up liking something.

Deerhoof - Noble and Godlike in Ruin

@gdaddy1, Band Made is not my cup of, but my sis is a big k-pop fan.  I think she my like them.

@kofbaffour, your selections are interesting but a little too electronica for my tastes.

Keep the suggestions coming.  Thanks!

@jtucker can you gimme examples of the Rock you listen to and lemme see if I can conjure up something

You know, the usual suspects: Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Doors, Steely Dan, Petty, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Cars, that sort of thing.  It would be good if any new recommendations were available on Qobuz

I have to admit that I mostly listen to jazz now, but it would be good to find some new rock instead of the same old stuff.

Some of the usual names that get mentioned:

Built to Spill

Kurt Vile

Vampire Weekend

Tame Impala

Destroyer

Arctic Monkeys

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard

Motel Radio

Porcupine Tree

Greta Van Fleet

Rival Sons

Dirty Honey

The Wild Feathers

all good guitar driven acts with melodies and musicianship.

Like many people, I find myself stuck in a +/- 15 year time frame when it comes to rock music.  That being, the music of my youth.  Around 1965 - 1980.  Lost interest about the time the big hair bands took over the scene.  And for me, I can't listen to music that has meaningless lyrics.  I want "Sympathy For The Devil", not "You Give Love A Bad Name".   Maybe that's why I listen to 80% jazz and classical these days.  I'm a victim of the wealth of great rock music I grew up with.  It's been done and not likely to be repeated.  IMHO

Little Feat have put out a couple of albums  "Strike Up the Band" this year and "Sam's Place" a couple of years ago that definitely have that Classic Rock sound.  They're touring this summer. Might be what you're looking for.

Listen to the song Friend or Foe by Riverside.  Cool guitar and bass guitar.  Turn it up....

The Black Keys | Arctic Monkeys | RUSH (Vapor Trails 2013 Remaster, Clockwork Angels)

Going back to the 90’s

Pearl Jam | Soundgarden | Alice in Chains | Stone Temple Pilots

Pulp | Suede | Oasis | The Verve | Manic Street Preachers

BTW - Listening to the new Pulp album called "More"

The best two rock albums over the past few years already mentioned; Tool's Fear Inoculum and Porcupine Tree's Closure/ Continuation.

Both have significant discographies ...

Some great suggestions here!!

All the best ....

If you need something new to listen to I ran across the band agony of defeat / EP - At The Movies   ... As someone that has been listening to hard rock and other types of music for over 60 years this is a fantastic album ... Warning you will have to play this several times on your system for the speakers and preamp to understand what is happening so will sound better each time you play it ... This is fantastic hardcore rap rocking funkin metal ...Enjoy !

I appear to like the same music that you do (big fan of the Cars and so on ).

Try giving-- Nothing but Thieves -- a listen .

Although I like all four of their albums . The first ( self titled )and their newest one

Dead Club City .  I feel are the best . Give them some time though .

Readily available  you tube

Find Me by Joe Hertler and the Rainbows

Suiside Saturday, and  Way it Goes by Hippo Campus

Jungle by Tash Santana

Kick it to Me by Sammy Rae and Friends

There is more music than ever.  Local artists here are even on the streaming services. I am not sure when you got behind on music but here are some.

Jack White or White Stripes. One of the current best guitarists.  Racquanteurs is his other band

Tame Impala

Black Keys

Radio head.

Sturgill Simpson some of his music is rock, but it's all good.  Excellent sound recording as well.

Jam Bands are big!  Goose, Spafford, Humphrey McGee, all have good guitarists.

Once you start listening to bands, try some of their recommendations.

Some other bands that I like but blend different genres Alt J, Leon Bridges, Childish Gambino. Americana is alive and well.

Here are a few new [to me] bands who made my Qobuz favorites list.  Iron city houserockers,  is, by My morning jacket, anything by Chris Cornell .

Band Maid is to my mind the best rock band to come along since the Stones. Easily among the ten greatest rock bands of all time. They are an especially great live, Check out their official live Youtube videos.  I would suggest listening to "Hate", "Play", the new "Shambles": live version, "Domination", "Freedom" and many more on Youtube.. They have an extensive repertoire of terrific songs. There are numerous fan made live videos out there. Stick to their "official" ones when starting out. Their first hit "Thrill" from ten or so years ago is a good studio.cut.

I grew up on rock and roll . Little Richard, and Bill Haley and the Comets records were the first singles ever listened to at home as a child. I loved the sixties as many of you do. Band Maid is every bit as good and original as the greatest groups of these eras, or later the best punk groups, even the best metal groups (although not my favorite genre) and any other rock genre you might favor.

Don’t miss out. You won’t regret it. They are incredible, virtuoso musicians  and happily brought me back home to rock after listening to a steady diet of jazz for may years.

Here are some off-the-beaten track favorites of mine:

Dada: Puzzle

Toy Matinee: Toy Matinee

Morphine: Cure For Pain

The Golden Palominos:  Pure

Box Scaggs: Dig (bought it for one song... Thought other's were odd. A year later I really like all the tracks except for the one that I bought the album for which I find kind of boring now)

Alt J: An Awesome Wave.

Of course Metallica, Tool, STP, System of a Down, all have great albums out there as well

Some great suggestions here, I concur on Tool, Porcupine Tree, Nothing but Thieves and band maid.

since you like Steely Dan, my favorite artist honestly try Monkey House.
also Garbage just released a new album, it’s awesome.

don’t forget linkin park and Evanescence.

the track Lonely is the Muse by Halsey really rocks

Queensryche - Della Brown       (a very underrated rock/metal vocalist)

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=cTyWfSbsFD0&si=NNIfWo-fmIhzUh5E

Pearljam - Indifference

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=vZCMgm6Z-8M&si=Qs1FB40_fZ-zRKNM

Blackfield - The hole in me

https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=49ZKKlhdg6I&si=7YxqkzMcWHdTDf8B

Generally, any band Steven Wilson is involved in....solo albums, porcupine tree, blackfield, no-man, etc will have high quality recordings, the likes of which didn't quite work out in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Red hot chilli peppers - Give it away   (this was a funky piece when it first came out, won a grammy, i suppose)
