Class A bias, speaker sensitivity, watts...? @richardbrand I found an explanation for, or at least support for, the idea that Class A watts halve as speaker impedance halves. It’s from the December 2023 Stereophile review of the Accuphase A-300 amp. Her’s the link and the relevant quote: ...
12au7 tube? Brent Jessee has the Phillips factory codes and how to read them on his site here: Mullard, Philips, and Valvo Tube Codes Phillips owned many of the popular NOS tube manufacturers. Brent says one thing I disagree with, though. That is that you o...
Here's a really, really great video on Richard Manuel (and oh yeah, The Band). It’s definitely a crazy world and a shame that drugs are such an integral part of the music business. I’m glad that you (and a lot of other people) managed to not fall into the trap. I think it was Charlie Musselwhite who had a similar experience...
Class A bias, speaker sensitivity, watts...? @richardbrand There is only one number given for Class A watts that I’ve seen, which is why it stuck with me when the guy said they dropped into 4 ohms. It’s nothing to spend your time on, If someone who knows for sure comes across this thread m...
Class A bias, speaker sensitivity, watts...? @richardbrand Yes it would be interesting to hear from some high bias Class A/B amp builders whether their amps switch over to Class B power sooner as speaker impedance drops. Maybe I just misunderstood.
Here's a really, really great video on Richard Manuel (and oh yeah, The Band). The problem with heroin (now fentanyl) is that it’s such a good high that once you try it, it makes you want to dabble in it. Dabbling becomes addiction before you know it. Rick Danko remained addicted to the end of his life.
Class A bias, speaker sensitivity, watts...? @richardbrand Yes, I agree with what you’re saying. I was trying to address a different matter. I was told by an amp manufacturer whom I called (don’t remember which one) that the class A watts are specified at 8 ohms and would approximately h...
Class A bias, speaker sensitivity, watts...? I'll tell you what I think I know and someone can correct me. Class A watts approximately halve from 8 ohms into 4 ohms, so you have between 5 and 10 watts of class A power. Accuphase does the calculation of watts being output at any given time...

Pass....Accuphase....or...... I wouldn't rule out the Accuphase, but I would give it a listen before buying. Some people do feel that Accuphase is polite, but to me it is just very low distortion. As far as matching with your speakers, Accuphase claims to double down to 1 o...

Same Cooke- Heard this one? Yeah. I've got it on Sam Cooke's Night Beat. All the songs have that laid-back late-night feel. Sam had an incredible voice. He was a big influence on Rod Stewart and Southside Johnny, both of whom did Sam Cooke medleys in their shows. I'm su...
The end of physical media is neigh Streaming will not disappear, but it could become much more expensive, and the way things go, it probably will.
The end of physical media is neigh There are a ton of 8 track players for sale on ebay, so CD and blu-ray players should be available for as long as you'll be around. You probably have more CDs, etc. than you could listen to in your remaining lifetime, why worry? |
