Many of you know david_ten. David has been a respected and knowledgeable member of this forum for some time. His musical journey has taken him down an interesting and thoughtful pathway. He has always been a gentleman with a positive thing to say. When other members were at life's end, it was David who reached out to them.
I have had the privilege of getting to know David a bit outside the realm of this forum.
Sadly, David's safety and home encountered some trying times with the recent devastating hurricane in New Orleans. Fortunately, he and his family are safe. However, his home sustained significant damage. Trying to move forward with limited water, food, gasoline, and no electric service has been difficult indeed.
Please offer David a word of encouragement and/or your prayers during this difficult time. I'm sure he would appreciate that. Yet one more reminder of all that we have to be thankful for.
Very sad to hear about david_ten and his family. Disasters like this show that the people affected are not just stats or someone, somewhere else who's not somehow affiliated with us. The important thing is that he and his family are safe. Nothing can replace the lives of those we love and who are close to us. The hard part will be the rebuilding and/or going back as this is far from over. Reading up on what New Orleans is going through, not to mention New York and Pennsylvania, the extensive damage wrought by this storm will be long lasting. I feel the best way to help is to continue giving to the Red Cross or any on the ground institution that can offer direct and immediate aid. Here's hoping that we'll be hearing soon from david_ten again on these threads and that some of his stereo gear survived.
to david & Family so Good to know your family & You Are Safe When one Door Closes Another One Will Open I Feel there are Better Days Ahead fore You & Yours i Spent 8months in the 9th Ward Katrina 2006 I met so really wonderful people It will be ok best wishes GereLeary USMC
Thanks for the heads-up corelli. My best thoughts for a fast return to normal for you and your loved ones david_ten. My late brother Paul lost his home completely during Katrina, and his law firm moved him to their branch in Texas for months after so that he was separated from his wife and three young children for months after. I know what you must be enduring. Glad that at least your family survived.
@david_ten, I’m so sorry to hear about your losses. I am happy that you and your family are safe, and physically unharmed. I will be praying for you and your family, and others that have to endure this horrible set back. God bless you.
To david_ten: Sorry to hear of the ordeal you have all been going through down there. Thankfully, you are all alive, and the rest can be rebuilt. Take care.
Dear LORD, First of all forgive me of my sins known and unknown before I ask anything of you. I ask in Jesus name that you comfort and strengthen David and his love ones in his sudden time of crisis and chaos, surround he and his family now with your grace and peace through this crisis. By your spirit lift them up sustain them; LORD you said in your word that YOU are our refuge and strenght an ever present help in times of trouble Palms 46:1. Rebuild and fill David_10 with hope of your new creation; through you his rock and redeemer. I pray LORD that your presence would be felt by those who are grieving, those who are injured, those who have loss there homes and livelihoods, I pray that we the members of this forum may be a witness to your compassion and care David_ ten and for all who suffer in JESUS NAME Amen.
David, I am a relatively new member from Nova Scotia in Canada but we have watched in sadness the destruction that hurricanes bring to the US. We know as we get the tail end of those storms…sometimes they fizzle out and just become a tropical storm but on occasion they remain strong and we get category 1’s all the way up here and I think about all the destruction it has made in its path. My heart and soul go out to you and yours David. I hope you can find the resiliency to bounce back and get your life back to normal. Canadians look on in disbelief as these strong weather patterns move through and how it affects everyone’s lives…I don’t have any children but I think of all the animals as well that are affected. It all troubles me. My sister and children returned to Canada after living in Venice, FL for 18 years…they have experienced the threat of hurricanes and they are back in Nova Scotia. Glad to hear you and your family are safe. The devastation in New Orleans and environs is mind boggling. It was also quite shocking to hear of all the drowning deaths here in NJ and across the river in NYC.
Bad things happen to good people, hug your family as they are the most precious of all that surrounds you.
Those who've never experienced a horrible disaster like a major hurricane, tornado, wildfires or, for that matter, war, often don't realize how lucky they truly are. It's one thing to see & read about events like this in the news and feel sorry for those souls caught up in it but quite another to live through something like this and/or have loves ones who are. I don't know david_ten and can't recall if I've ever read any of his posts. Regardless, my heart and prayers go out to him, his family & loved ones and all of the good people in this country and on this planet going through such trying times. Godspeed david_ten!
Thank you so much for your prayers, kind words, and outreach.
There are folks much, much worse off than us. Many who have lost everything.
Individuals and organizations from all over the U.S. and locally are helping out, in so, so many ways. It is amazing to witness.
Communities farther away from the coast are making progress and are slowly returning to ’normalcy.’ The progress made in just over a week is significant in those areas.
The stereo gear is in good shape, as far as I know. I will know more once I can power the gear on. Components which were not in use were against the wall that took the hit. There was water damage in that area. Lost one TV where the chimney collapsed.
The wing of the house that is damaged is fully tarped now. Waiting for the insurance adjuster to assess before the tree can be completely removed.
Most importantly, we are all fine. In a strange way it has been an enriching experience. Suffering and hardship have delivered perspective, life lessons, and appreciation for many things usually taken for granted. Neighbors and strangers have come closer together and are helping each other out. Faith is re-invigorated and recharged.
As a friend shared with our seven year old son, none of this is taught in school.
It is wonderful hearing the connections many of you have shared with South East Louisiana and with the regions up north that were impacted by this storm. Thanks.
@Corelli, David and I communicate quite regularly off this forum. I knew he had sustained considerable property damages but most thankfully no personal injuries to him or family. This is the great news! Material things will be repaired or replaced and David and family will recover and move onward.
@corelli I really appreciate that you initiated this thread and I’m very happy with the outreach of Audiogon members toward David and his wonderful family. Charles
David, I am the retired public safety director of Okaloosa (Destin) Fl. I’ve seen many disasters and they are not easy to get thru in any way. However, there will be light at the end of the tunnel and when this is all over life will be better! Hang in there and god bless you and your family. Dino.
I am thankful to hear that you and family are ok and pray for your family and the many others affected. Continue to be encouraged through faith and in established new friendships.
So sorry for this hardship, but relieved it wasn't worse. You have a lot of fellow travelers in audio in your corner. If there is anything we can do...
There is no greater gift than life itself. Material things can be replaced. Glad you and your family are ok, David. I send my prayers for you, your family, and your neighbors.
David, I want to add my sympathy and concern over your situation. Having been through a similar although not as serious hurricane catastrophe, the thing I wish most for you is an honest and responsive contractor to begin addressing repairs. Recover is a long and drawn out process regardless and I wish you patience and resolve through out.
