A MEMBER IN NEED OF SUPPORT

Many of you know david_ten.  David has been a respected and knowledgeable member of this forum for some time.  His musical journey has taken him down an interesting and thoughtful pathway.  He has always been a gentleman with a positive thing to say. When other members were at life's end, it was David who reached out to them.

I have had the privilege of getting to know David a bit outside the realm of this forum. Sadly, David's safety and home encountered some trying times with the recent devastating hurricane in New Orleans.  Fortunately, he and his family are safe. However, his home sustained significant damage.  Trying to move forward with limited water, food, gasoline, and no electric service has been difficult indeed.

Please offer David a word of encouragement and/or your prayers during this difficult time. I'm sure he would appreciate that.  Yet one more reminder of all that we have to be thankful for.

secretguy kind thoughts for you and your family also. We've had some minor damage (thankfully!)from tornadoes up here in the midwest and I sort of can relate.Arranging for repairs is another type of nightmare when so many need help.Take care!
Got an email as well. We may try to get together when things settle down here.
This is awful. Things can change so fast and we are virtually powerless vs nature. David has always replied to any post or question and is an asset to this community and I’m sure to his community at home as well. Wishing him, his family, and community the best. I did donate to relief funds but is there anything specific that could also help?
I just got a message from david_ten, thanking me for my kind words and telling me that while they have a long slog ahead of them, it could have been worse and that they’re going to be alright.

What a nice guy and I really do wish him all the best!

JD
Bless you and your family, David. We are all with you in heart and spirit.
I have prayed for all the people of Louisiana. I have family in Shreveport, Alexandria and Iowa.My cousin in Iowa was hit 3 times in 6 years ,and Is still in a trailer from Laura.i love the friendly ,down home people of Louisiana and New Orleans which I have visited many times.Living on Long Island  NY ,we have had our scares with the weather. Good Luck to you and your family.
God bless you david_ten.  If there is anything we can do, please let us know.
It is indeed very sad that New Orleans was put through this tragedy again. Our hearts go out to all people of New Orleans including David and his family, you will be in our prayers! The only good news is that the levees held up which is no accident as the the government spent billions to repair and improve them.

Thanks to everyone else that has posted their kind and thoughtful remarks since my last post four days ago.

The offers for financial assistance are generous. Thank you. We are good on that front, for now.

We still do not have our main internet service. My ability to come on and view and post is limited, since our phone service remains spotty and bandwidth is limited.

If I may, can I suggest we not bicker?

There are many organizations worth donating to, should one want to do so. It's a very personal choice.
dgluke,
You have a lot of nerve to make such an ugly and unfounded accusation.
You owe tvad an apology; although I doubt that he would want it.

Relying on the Red Cross to help our hurting member is by no means the best way possible. I’m sure that members that have kept up with the controversies and Red Cross’ continued public flogging over their mistakes, know this as a matter of fact. They do as they please with funds until public outcry forces a director out or the course gets corrected, whichever comes first. Hearing those that don’t know this, tout the RC as the best means to directly help ANYONE is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. It makes little sense to tout this as the best way, regardless of the RC track record, unless of course, you’re not actually going to donate and plan to hide behind the lip service. If the OP can organize a direct donation campaign for David, I’m sure his eligibility for Red Cross relief will not be jeopardized and the upcoming and ongoing red tape fiasco can be taken a little easier with his own direct relief funds in pocket.
David is one of the few people on audio fora that I respect.  His kindness to others, and lack of an agenda, are shown over and over in his posts.  He is also a music first audiophile, and I have discovered some great music from his suggestions.  Hope all is well for him and his family.
@david_ten

David,

I am glad your family is safe and unharmed. Everything else can be replaced. I hope you are still considering this area to move to, not that we don’t have our own share natural disasters such as the recent tornadoes. I do look forward to another audio get together with you. CAF is only two months away. Let me know if you need anything. I also have a spare tube amp to get you through, just let me know.

David, just found out, so sorry to hear. Glad that your family are safe and I wish you well with the rebuilding process.
Sorry to hear about this.  Prayers for you and your family David.  If you need anything, please let me know.
David is a very good friend of mine, yes I met him in this forum, very passionate audiophile and good family man, One post I was challenging him to attend Axpona, I promised him pizza and a beer, Guest what ? He just suddenly called me that he is Indiana with Allen and Teajay, and he will visit me, I did fulfill my promise good pizza , nice beer and nice music. David you will be fine my friend, Iam so glad your family are fine,God bless you and your family , stay safe.🙏
David, I want to add my sympathy and concern over your situation.  Having been through a similar although not as serious hurricane catastrophe, the thing I wish most for you is an honest and responsive contractor to begin addressing repairs.  Recover is a long and drawn out process regardless and I wish you patience and resolve through out.

There is no greater gift than life itself. Material things can be replaced. Glad you and your family are ok, David. I send my prayers for you, your family, and your neighbors.

Frank
David,

So sorry for this hardship, but relieved it wasn't worse. You have a lot of fellow travelers in audio in your corner. If there is anything we can do...

And thanks to corelli for starting this thread.

Chris
David,

I am thankful to hear that you and family are ok and pray for your family and the many others affected. Continue to be encouraged through faith and in established new friendships.

David, good to hear from you. Stay strong, and my thoughts and prayers will go out to you and your family, friends, and neighbors.
David, I am the retired public safety director of Okaloosa (Destin) Fl. I’ve seen many disasters and they are not easy to get thru in any way. However, there will be light at the end of the tunnel and when this is all over life will be better! Hang in there and god bless you and your family. Dino.
David, praying for you and family. Thank you for updating us and we find your perspective both healing and encouraging.
David, thanks for checking in and I think we would all agree that our lives are more value than our high fire gear
David_ten

our family sends positive thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Stay strong.
@Corelli,
David and I communicate quite regularly off this forum. I knew he had sustained considerable property damages but most thankfully no personal  injuries to him or family. This is the great news! Material things will be repaired or replaced and David and family will recover and move onward.

@corelli I really appreciate that you initiated this thread and I’m very happy with the outreach of Audiogon members toward David and his wonderful family.
Charles
Thank you so much for your prayers, kind words, and outreach.

There are folks much, much worse off than us. Many who have lost everything.

Individuals and organizations from all over the U.S. and locally are helping out, in so, so many ways. It is amazing to witness.

Communities farther away from the coast are making progress and are slowly returning to ’normalcy.’ The progress made in just over a week is significant in those areas.

The stereo gear is in good shape, as far as I know. I will know more once I can power the gear on. Components which were not in use were against the wall that took the hit. There was water damage in that area. Lost one TV where the chimney collapsed.

The wing of the house that is damaged is fully tarped now. Waiting for the insurance adjuster to assess before the tree can be completely removed.

Most importantly, we are all fine. In a strange way it has been an enriching experience. Suffering and hardship have delivered perspective, life lessons, and appreciation for many things usually taken for granted. Neighbors and strangers have come closer together and are helping each other out. Faith is re-invigorated and recharged.

As a friend shared with our seven year old son, none of this is taught in school.

It is wonderful hearing the connections many of you have shared with South East Louisiana and with the regions up north that were impacted by this storm. Thanks.
Those who've never experienced a horrible disaster like a major hurricane, tornado, wildfires or, for that matter, war, often don't realize how lucky they truly are. It's one thing to see & read about events like this in the news and feel sorry for those souls caught up in it but quite another to live through something like this and/or have loves ones who are. I don't know david_ten and can't recall if I've ever read any of his posts. Regardless, my heart and prayers go out to him, his family & loved ones  and all of the good people in this country and on this planet going through such trying times. Godspeed david_ten!
david_ten

Glad to hear you and your family are safe.  The devastation in New Orleans and environs is mind boggling.  It was also quite shocking to hear of all the drowning deaths here in NJ and across the river in NYC.

Bad things happen to good people, hug your family as they are the most precious of all that surrounds you.

Warm Regards,
barts
david_ten,

We’re so glad you and your wife are safe!  Were you able to save anything from your home?

All the best!

Was good to hear that you and your family have survived this storm. My thoughts and prayers are with you. All the best

David, I am a relatively new member from Nova Scotia in Canada but we have watched in sadness the destruction that hurricanes bring to the US. We know as we get the tail end of those storms…sometimes they fizzle out and just become a tropical storm but on occasion they remain strong and we get category 1’s all the way up here and I think about all the destruction it has made in its path.
My heart and soul go out to you and yours David. I hope you can find the resiliency to bounce back and get your life back to normal. Canadians look on in disbelief as these strong weather patterns move through and how it affects everyone’s lives…I don’t have any children but I think of all the animals as well that are affected. It all troubles me. My sister and children returned to Canada after living in Venice, FL for 18 years…they have experienced the threat of hurricanes and they are back in Nova Scotia.
