Many of you know david_ten. David has been a respected and knowledgeable member of this forum for some time. His musical journey has taken him down an interesting and thoughtful pathway. He has always been a gentleman with a positive thing to say. When other members were at life's end, it was David who reached out to them.
I have had the privilege of getting to know David a bit outside the realm of this forum.
Sadly, David's safety and home encountered some trying times with the recent devastating hurricane in New Orleans. Fortunately, he and his family are safe. However, his home sustained significant damage. Trying to move forward with limited water, food, gasoline, and no electric service has been difficult indeed.
Please offer David a word of encouragement and/or your prayers during this difficult time. I'm sure he would appreciate that. Yet one more reminder of all that we have to be thankful for.
I am glad your family is safe and unharmed. Everything else can be replaced. I hope you are still considering this area to move to, not that we don’t have our own share natural disasters such as the recent tornadoes. I do look forward to another audio get together with you. CAF is only two months away. Let me know if you need anything. I also have a spare tube amp to get you through, just let me know.
David is one of the few people on audio fora that I respect. His kindness to others, and lack of an agenda, are shown over and over in his posts. He is also a music first audiophile, and I have discovered some great music from his suggestions. Hope all is well for him and his family.
Relying on the Red Cross to help our hurting member is by no means the best way possible. I’m sure that members that have kept up with the controversies and Red Cross’ continued public flogging over their mistakes, know this as a matter of fact. They do as they please with funds until public outcry forces a director out or the course gets corrected, whichever comes first. Hearing those that don’t know this, tout the RC as the best means to directly help ANYONE is like nails on a chalkboard to my ears. It makes little sense to tout this as the best way, regardless of the RC track record, unless of course, you’re not actually going to donate and plan to hide behind the lip service. If the OP can organize a direct donation campaign for David, I’m sure his eligibility for Red Cross relief will not be jeopardized and the upcoming and ongoing red tape fiasco can be taken a little easier with his own direct relief funds in pocket.
Thanks to everyone else that has posted their kind and thoughtful remarks since my last post four days ago.
The offers for financial assistance are generous. Thank you. We are good on that front, for now.
We still do not have our main internet service. My ability to come on and view and post is limited, since our phone service remains spotty and bandwidth is limited.
If I may, can I suggest we not bicker?
There are many organizations worth donating to, should one want to do so. It's a very personal choice.
It is indeed very sad that New Orleans was put through this tragedy again. Our hearts go out to all people of New Orleans including David and his family, you will be in our prayers! The only good news is that the levees held up which is no accident as the the government spent billions to repair and improve them.
I have prayed for all the people of Louisiana. I have family in Shreveport, Alexandria and Iowa.My cousin in Iowa was hit 3 times in 6 years ,and Is still in a trailer from Laura.i love the friendly ,down home people of Louisiana and New Orleans which I have visited many times.Living on Long Island NY ,we have had our scares with the weather. Good Luck to you and your family.
I just got a message from david_ten, thanking me for my kind words and telling me that while they have a long slog ahead of them, it could have been worse and that they’re going to be alright.
What a nice guy and I really do wish him all the best!
This is awful. Things can change so fast and we are virtually powerless vs nature. David has always replied to any post or question and is an asset to this community and I’m sure to his community at home as well. Wishing him, his family, and community the best. I did donate to relief funds but is there anything specific that could also help?
secretguy kind thoughts for you and your family also. We've had some minor damage (thankfully!)from tornadoes up here in the midwest and I sort of can relate.Arranging for repairs is another type of nightmare when so many need help.Take care!
