This forum is antiquated.

I'm a member of several forums. This site is ancient in it's ability to respond to member's posts, and is also extremely cumbersome to reply to specific member's posts, quotes, etc. What am I missing? For some posts that are so technologically subjective....the objective merits of this website and forums are so 1990s. Ancient technology.

Thoughts? Discuss.

Yep, quoting a post and replying to the post are two unique concepts and this sight would be wise to address. Some sites show a few lines of scrollable text to read more. ...done w one click.

So, antiquated? No. Updates sure.
Are we not doing what you're intended to do here.......post a comment, it get's a response?

Seems functional to me. No pictures please.
Leave the MKII version out of Agon.
OP, can you suggest a couple forums which cover audio which have the kind of functionality you're looking for? I'm curious.

Pretty much everyone. Most use either vbulletin or xenforo.

Same goes for pics and lots of other things. Of course pics eat up bandwidth and increase cost.

@yogiboy I’ve joined Asylum.
OP, thanks for the suggestions of other sites with better technology.
@craig I agree with you that often less technology is better -- especially when ads are not in my face all the time.

The reason I keep coming back here is the expertise I keep learning from. It’s like a favorite diner or bar. The company keeps one coming back. A while back, I posted a problem with my electrical, and jshea and almarg and a couple others stuck with me while I followed their instructions to test outlets and report back. It was like having good people in the control tower. Their advice saved me time and money. All the gear I own now is thanks to advice here. And I’m very happy with it. And my self-education in acoustics....I won’t go on.

If there are tweaks or changes that would make this site more attractive or less frustrating, I think the best approach would be for the OP to start a discussion about that and then ask members here to individually email the moderators with a request. That would be the shortest path to improvement.

For me, quick improvements would be:

* ability to post photos
* a category just for room acoustics
* a "super-category" of threads which do the best job of explaining FAQ’s (such as, "How to match Preamps and Amps" or "The difference between Conditioners and Regenerators" etc.

Everything is evolving. Use your time on earth to enjoy the things you love. Take the easy path, listen to music, look at art and drink some wine.

Don't worry about what is best.
I disagree with the OP. Nothing wrong with this forum software and design. Slick forums and websites with the functionality referred to cost money which usually comes in the form of advertising, at least here I don’t get bombarded with advertising. I was a member of Stereo Net Australia (SNA) before I got banned. Check that web site out and be prepared to be bombarded with advertising, it’s everywhere. Most other forum websites are the same, annoying advertising everywhere. I don’t know how much it costs to run this site and forum, but i guess not cheap to maintain servers and secure site from cyber attacks, etc. At least here I get a daily email with popular discussions, a weekly email with promoted for sale gear and I haven’t been banned, yet! I find the forum and classifieds easy to navigate and use, sometimes the principles of KISS are best. Just enjoy and don’t think too much about next best, a bit like music and hifi gear, read and contribute with respect and interest and listen to the music, not the gear.
"We are talking Jurassic Park here"

A big old'un always beats a modern compact.

I have said the same a 1000 times.Look at the Roon or PS Audio site using the same software and it's great.
I would have to agree, there should be a reply button to reply to a specific poster....instead you must do the above which is just plain dumb. Also, the fact that you cannot attach a photo to a post is stupid. Othereise, aside from the know it all-s it's OK.
Whhat oother sites r out there?  I am afraid to leave. I feel secure. Dont like change, but maybe ......
+ the style of writing in most threads are also from another decade (like who does that?)
Web UX isn’t the only thing that’s outdated on Audiogon. The global viewpoints are even more so!
How much has the OP paid to use this site?  Zero.....If you don’t like it, build a better one.  It works as it does, but still.costs you nothing.
"This forum is antiquated."
Thanks. That just came at the right time.
I was starting to think I should look around. But now this old guy is happy.

People here matter most than the antiquated site interfacing method and rules for me...

They are very interesting and varied....

I like them all, even those with which i have argued the most sometimes almost rudely ...

Anyway the persons with which i have argued the most here learn me the most and i must thank them...

Then no critic from me of this site in any way.....
Don't mess with us old guys. We are beyond the age where life in prison is a deterrent. :-)

NOT. ANYMORE.

The forum might be antiquated, but so is a lot of the recordings and music we still enjoy, and the media on which those performances are record.
While I understand your comments and though technology has advanced and maybe you feel the people here are not up with the technology you desire that does not mean the sound is any better.  All the technology still has to make music and what you get for the cheap technology you are probably listening to does not make it in any better sounding.  For an example, I recently heard the top of the line $16K DAC.  Plenty of technology especially with the XLR set-up which I believe uses 2 or 4 R2R DACs with the XLR output..  Nice sounding but not for $16K!  Another older technology DAC that was built to sound great, walked all over it in so many ways.

Happy Listening.
Improvements can be overrated.  I remember the first generation Walkman sounded great.  Each subsequent model sounded worse than the last. I myself am old technology, and I would consider myself underrated.
Yeah and the rich get richer too.
What you gonna do?
Leave a note on the board at the consignment shop?

😊😋😁
People choose to participate when feeling comfortable and interested. Ups and downs but mostly runs normal here.
Biases welcomed.
diyAudio, What's best, are interesting also.

I forgot I had an Audiokarma account logged in recently I had like 742 alerts! :D I like the Hoffman forums myself.

I’m reminded of the people on the HGTV house buying programs who are looking for a home in their budget. But when shown a 15-20 yr old house they say, "It’s Dated!!" Well DUH!! Look at new ones then. Its like telling someone that water is wet
I for one truly like this forum. Have made friends here. Maybe I am antiquated. Do qualify as old, feel younger than that now.
Forgot to include AudioKarma, I haven't been on the site in years.
It's very interesting that members on some of these forums hate Audiogon or have had bad experiences on the forum.
US Audiomart has developed a good forum and classified section. But Audiogon is still the place to sell.

Examples of good tech, well implemented forums:
- Steve Hoffman
- US Audiomart forum
- Talk Classical
- What's Best

- Audio Asylum... Interesting and informative but worst format. Or maybe I can't figure it out.

Most of the Goners here peaked in the 90’s
Uh...,..no. I peaked in the '70's & 80's. Oh..........................Not THAT peak? Just forget it..Wasn't important anyway.

Would like a "like" button and a search function of only my posts (when I look for something I did 15 years ago, etc.).
Huh? There is a search, and look in your profile for your posts.
I rarely go back into threads that have become long because it's too hard to jump exactly to where I was last reading. Multi-quote and quote features would be nice. As would better search functionality.

Yes, time to climb back on my brontosaurus and get to work in the quarry. That Mr. Slate is a slave driver.

This forum is antiquated

Yes its antiquated inhabitants still go on and on about antiquated 20th century technologies like records, tubes, fuses, wires, even springs, ....you name it and some still don’t even want to hear about digital, Class D amps, streaming, you know the modern technologies and products setting the world on fire. We are talking Jurassic Park here!
Is the whole world out to get you and your money?

Everybody knows the answer to that one.
The moderators are too busy shilling for a handful of 'psychological, subjective' marketers that have no basis in fundamental physics...while believing they hear what they pay for...or pretend to, anyway.
Wound a bit too tight, I'd say. So this is one big conspiracy? Is the whole world out to get you and your money? If that were so, then this place would be the least of your worries.

All the best,
Nonoise

Yup ancient tech, I can PM George in AU at no expense to me or him get a reply (if he’s up) in less than a minute.

BUT the cut and past on other FREE sites works better.. LOL OK If you say so...

I need an auto solder, auto duster, auto auto program to make EVERYTHING thought command. Why does this sound like my A$$ is glued to the seat all day... Mercy you had to move your fingers more.. not asking you to make Persian Rugs...

Time to feed the chickens..
OP, can you suggest a couple forums which cover audio which have the kind of functionality you’re looking for? I’m curious.
The forum that comes to mind... that I use anyway... with the most functionality is

www.TheGearPage.net
Its true the forum technology has changed very little in the over 10 years I’ve been here. Surely because this is a site designed to sell things and let people talk just enough to help the sales.  Always keep in mind that this is a business site....the chat room is just a tool to support that.
"...Ancient technology. Thoughts? Discuss..."

It is. Kind weird for a hi-tech forum.
Most of the Goners here peaked in the 90’s so the technology is age appropriate
Don't post move on to another site that's much better good luck finding one.Enjoy.
