Article: "Do Blind Listening Tests Work? My Sessions with the Colorado Audio Society"
Sometimes we get lost in the journey of evaluation of sound.  Implicit in any review of testing are the listeners preferences and biases.  All of those combined probide your evaluation of what sounds good to you. IMHO there a a general consensus ...
How large (or small) is the audiophile market?
The analysis is complicated by the Home Theater market.  Many non audiophiles purchase expensive systems for their home because they can financially.  They want loud movies, not listening sessions.   Without doing any research I look only to my ow...
Favorite Newly Discovered Female Vocalist
This may fall outside the spectrum of singers listed here, but I have to add Susan Tedeschi who is a terrific blues singer.  That said, I have all of Eva Cassidy's CDs, amazing voice.
What is a good all around high quality speaker to purchase?
Listen to Maggies if you get a chance.  With sufficient power they are amazing.  Planars are different from box speakers.  Your ears will tell you if they are for you.  I love Eva Cassidy and they make her sound like ahe is in the room, ainging.
What is a "reference" system?
What some call a reference system, one might also call it a baseline system.  I believe that is more descriptive of its status to the owner.
What artists can you not get enough of?
Two artists have captivated since I first heard them.  Duane Allman, especially his work as a sideman as well as “Live at he Fillmore”.  His playing touched me deeply when I saw him just before his death. My second artist also left us far too soo...
is McIntosh known for good dynamics?
I have had MC 501s driving 3.6 Maggies via a C220 tube pre amp for almost 10 years.  I traded gear all the time prior to discovering this combination.  It is all about synergy among your components IMHO. Everyone has their own journey, as well as...
A life sentence!!!
My 3.6 Maggies are now 19 years okd and I cannot imagine life without them.
Advice on making a speaker change
I would second tge idea of listening to some planar speakers.  I upgraded my system 17 years ago (I am 76 now) and was amazed at what I heard.  I am still so happy I quit changing gear and have enjoyed listening instead.  Listen to a variety of sp...

Is it easier to sell mono blocks or stereo amp on the used market?
I bought my MC501s 15 years ago used for $3,000 eaxh.  They have driven my 3.6Maggies for that entire time.  I could sell them tomorrow for what I paid.  I found a recent sale on eBay for $3,000. The sound is still amazing!  Do not fear selling i...
Top 10 Live Albums
I would add the live portion from Cream's Wheels of Fire.  Crossroads and Spoonful make one amazing side of an album, remembering there was nothing in it's class when released
What is the first thing you do when you unwrap a new vinyl record?
Back in the day, I would record it on my R2R and then put it away.
More potential bad news for some big names...
As I contemplate the audio market I am unsure as to why better quality has gotten so expensive.  My frame of reference is televisions.  If you look at the price history of TVs against their quality and feature history, it is clear that the quality...
??? How Much Would You Spend ???
The speaker choice is critical to the balance of the expenditures.  I am a Maggie guy and they require much from their amps.  I have 750 wpc bench tested and those are not inexpensive.  On the other hand, if you prefer highly efficient speakers yo...
