Does Qobuz work

I've been streaming from Tidal from ethernet, through my Blue Sound Vault and McIntosh amp.  I find the BluOS very easy to use and Tidal works great on the BluOS app on my phone.  Qobuz does not. I've tried to contact Qobuz customer support but its been days now and they haven't responded.  There are several options on the BluOS app for various sources, like Tidal, Amazon Music, Qobuz, etc. But Qobuz is the only one that doesn't work, I paid for the Hi Res Audio, but the songs come thru at only cd quality and only 15 second samples.    Does anyone have a solution?

@buckycyo I use the BluOS and had to close my old account and resign in under the Music Service tab and then Manage.  I don't use the Qobuz app, but apparently Qobuz has 2 differnt web pages and only one of them lets you sign on and listen.  Its not very intuitive and like I said above, it took the cs rep 90 minutes to figure out how to sign in.  But eventually it worked.

Sooooo…. What was the solution?  I just signed back up for annual Qobuz after cancelling a year ago. I guess they kept my account credentials in their system as a trial (with the 15 second snippets). After signing back in through my streamer service (Cambridge) I’m only getting 15 second samples.  Signed out and back in. Their app still shows me as being a base member with no streaming rights. Wondering if they only do account updates when they’re in the office since I received no confirmation email etc.

i sent a request for help but the bot responded they’re closed till Tuesday. Pretty disappointing restart and a reminder why I let my account lapse in the past. I’m assuming it’ll work out but they could improve their business operation.

any help appreciated.

@cycles2   I mentioned above that Qobuz did contact me, after several days of waiting.  They were able to resolve the login issue, even though it took over 90 minutes for them to figure out the issue, so it seems like Qobuz is not as intuitive as Tidal.

So now I've been listening to both Tidal and Qobuz to compare for myself.  I mainly listen to classic rock and many times I've had to go back to Tidal because the album was not available on Qobuz.  So I may need to keep both services, although I know Tidal has said they are adding or converting many mqa titles to flac.  If this happens I may stay with Tidal because of their more extensive offerings.  But its good to know Qobuz may add music if requested.  Thanks

@mojo771 The 15 seconds of play time for each track is clearly associated with a login issue. I've experienced this and resolved it by making sure my login credentials were correct. Did Qobuz resolve this for you?

Claiming TIDAL has a much larger catalog than Qobuz is a bit misleading.  TIDAL claims to have 80M tracks and Qobuz claims to have 70M tracks.  It's more important to make sure they have the titles you're interested in.  That's why you can test Qobuz without a subscription as you've likely been doing since you don't seem to be correctly logged in.  If hi-res quality is not a concern, then TIDAL is a fine option.  But in my 3 years of using TIDAL I found that many of their hi-rez claims weren't correct as many are over-sampled CD quality tracks and then they blame it on the music publisher.

Also, Qobuz listens to its subscribers.  After switching from TIDAL to Qobuz, I noticed Qobuz didn't have any Lyle Lovett albums. His albums are so well produced that I use many tracks to test the SQ of my system.  I sent Qobuz an email and 2 weeks later they added all the Lyle Lovett albums to their platform.  Not sure TIDAL would do something like this.

Tidal has a much larger catalog.  Doesn't matter how much better Qobuz might sound if they don't have as many titles as Tidal.  Plus, several albums on Qobuz have just been cd quality

i used Tidal & Qobuz for 1 year. made many head/head comps.
did not renew Tidal. Qobuz sounds clearly better

I've got a Bluesound Vault 2 and started with streaming Tidal HiFi back around 2016. I switched to Qobuz hi-res in 2019 and it's been working just fine ever since. It was around 2021 that I switched my wireless network over to a TP Link Deco M5 mesh system, and it's rock solid. When you have a Vault it MUST be connected via Ethernet, and it was until I moved to a room upstairs that doesn't have it. The RJ45 ports on the M5 repeaters are so good that the Vault 2 doesn't even know that signal is coming from wireless mesh before it gets to the Ethernet cable.

Qobuz sound quality is definitely the best out there imho. However, their search, I have found to be inadequate at best.
Cancelling my recurring membership has proven to be impossible.

Update; Qubuz support finally got back to me after several days.  So far I've been on Chat for 90 minutes and we finally got it to work on my PC, even though the rep was using terms that were not actually on the website, so it took some time to figure it out.  Now we need to see if it works on the Blu app.  The site is not very intuitive.  I don't know if I can take another 90 minutes to see if it works on the phone app.

OP,

What DAC is appropriate for your system is dependent on your system. In general, DACs get better with price. But getting one greatly better than the rest of your system is not appropriate. I have owned or auditioned extensively DACs from $500 to $22K. In general, they get better at each cost point.

To recommend a DAC for your system we need to know your current system and venue… there is a place to put photos of your system under your USerID… under virtual systems. This would facilitate us helping you. Also, we need to know what you value in musical presentation… do you really like details and slam, imaging, or musicality?

If you do the research and choose carefully, it is most common that a great combination will be the investment will be Streamer = DAC = Preamp = amp, each less than speakers…. typically will represent 30% of the total system.

If you’re not a paid subscriber or you are not correctly logged in Qobuz will only give you that 15 second sample of a song.

All the best.

The "Best" DAC is kind of the issue.  First, I don't know what dac is in the Vault,  2nd, I've had 2 different audio shop suggest dacs - one ( I think the T&A 200) also had a pre-amp and its over $7000. Another place suggested an $800 Hugo,  That's quite a big difference in price.  I don't want to go cheap, but I also don't want to spend $&k if I don't need to.

Also, not every audio shop has every brand so its hard to compare dacs.  I can try ordering a few, comparing them on my system, and then return all the ones I don't like.  But I hate to order stuff I know I'm going to return.

@mojo771 Get your Mojo working. As one who srarted on a laptop then onto a bluebaby please get the best streamer with an internal or external dac you can afford and clean up your Ethernet and trip the light fantastic. There’s all the info you could ever want on these forums.

@mojo771 you wrote, "there are no instructions that say you need to log out and then log back, and not by merely selecting the Qobuz tab, like you just select the Tidal tab.  Insead, you have to go to a different settings page - not the main settings page - and then can log in and choose your service."

You might want to post those findings on other forums (Qobuz, Bluesound Node) to help others avoid aggravation. Glad you figured it out.

Here is the Ethernet switch , and the Pangea is a perfect match ,

thats is not even close to Accurate , having owned a Audio store you are getting less then $500 in parts counting the box , not high quality what so ever

compared to say a $3500 innuos SS hd and streamer it destroyed in its decent in the $1200 range but you get what you pay for ,Thst $10  horrible wall wart is pure noise, just try putting a good LPS power supply on it a Big step up with as mentioned above a decent power cord like the Pangea ,and the modem- router combo a good LPS look on the wall wart on bottom it’s normally 12v 4 amp

I put the $700 Linear tube Audio LPS which comes with a excellent DC cable others charge over $100 for plus I put a 5 amp slow blo synergistic purple fuse and Pangea power cord , that made a big difference streaming to complement the link below for respectable Ethernet hub.

Thanks to everyone for their input.  Here is the update; I guess you can call it user error, but I'm going to deflect partially, because there are no instructions that say you need to log out and then log back, and not by merely selecting the Qobuz tab, like you just select the Tidal tab.  Insead, you have to go to a different settings page - not the main settings page - and then can log in and choose your service.  Qobuz has dozens of articles, but most refer to using it on your PC or your phone, while none were available using Blusesound through your stereo.  So I didn't need to uninstall and reinstall the app, or change streamers.

While i am researching a new DAC, I'm not sure I need a different streamer because every high end audio store I've visited in NC or Miami or West Palm Beach, all use the BlueSound Vault to demo all their speakers - even up to those costing up to $50,000.

So thanks for the ideas because it gave me ideas about how to troubleshoot the issue since no info was available on the Qobuz website.

MOJO, does your Vault have the new 4.0 firmware?    I had problems with the Vault 2i on the first version of that firmware.     No local library and Qobuz was glitchy.

It does sound like your credentials weren't in right , but the Vault definitely had some firmware bugs last time around.

I would do the latest firmware and re-install the App on your phone or Tab.

I ran Qobuz on Bluesound and that exact problem occurred randomly.  I would go into the Qobuz settings and it was on trial mode and have to change the settings.  Occasionally it would require more than one reset.  Btw the problem also would recur with a different streamer, the Bryston BDP3, so I think it is a Qobuz issue

Bluesound is a great budget company with very good customer support. They have been for over a decade. Try the uninstall solution and also run it wired, if you can. It’s more stable that way. You have to figure out if the problem is with Qobuz or Bluesound.

Try buying a much higher quality streamer , and it makes a lot of sense to

run Roon which is the best music organizer out there which has more options

and lets you see who wrote the songs the words and many other things ,for $130 a year it is verygood , buy a good streamer like innuos then they have a great app

almost = to Roon for free , with your vault are you running a good Linear Power Supply, also to your router ,these area must to get better sound ,even your Ethernet hub. Bluesound  how it’s connected , if you can afford it’s good streamer, witha SSdrive will cost you $3-4 k. But far better sound,  Linear Tube Audio makes excellent LPS  ,just think your digital coming in has a $5 horrible noisey wall wart , -Get rid of it ,That too goes for the hub all these low quality Ethernet switches with wallwartsjudtadding tons of noise.

theSW8  Ethernet switch $599. Has a LPS, low noise regulators, and a ocxo - over controlled clock ,a excellent deal , spend at  least $200on power cords to these Like the Pangea sig MK-2 awg14  to your LPS ,yes this may have opened Pandora’s box but, if you are a audiophile you need respectable through out

even Ethernet ,and usb should be at minimum $500 each. In our audio club we tried to get away with $230 ethernet cables , you loose out , your best Ethernet cable should go into your streamer . I am just saying work on upgrading throughout. 100% you will hear the improvements  digital noise yes even digital noise can travel house to house youhave to eliminate it.

I've used Qobuz on a 2i and the 2022 Bluesound and it works great.

Sounds like a user account/login issue.

Bear in mid that there is no "Connect" API like Tidal and Spotify have, so, instead of using the Qobuz app for streaming, you need to use the much less user friendly Qobuz-ported app on the Bluesound streamer. It's klugey, but IMHO it's well worth it for the superior SQ.

Have you upgraded to the latest 4.2 software?? It helps a little.

I’ve had problems such as my Node2i stops playing a song. I’ll hit play and nothing. So I play the next song and it stops.

My fix is to UNINSTALL BluOs. Then INSTALL it. Restart your Android.. I also reboot the Node streamer.

Probably not a Qobuz problem.

Check your login- I use Qobuz everyday and it’s seamless with my streamer but I’ve had a couple of occasions with the app and phone that are exactly what you’ve described.

Sounds like Tidal Connect. Qobuz has had longer to work on it than it took Tidal to implement a Connect feature ala Spotify.

Maybe they are not up to it. Maybe like Spotify rumors to go flac or better.

BluOS does not seem particularly "easy" to me.

Definitely sounds like user error, rather than a Qobuz related issue. Try restarting everything from the start.

Good luck. Problems suck.

I’ve had Qobuz for about 4 years, running through a Node 2, and Node 2i. No major issues.

I have used Qobuz for years on multiple streamers, never a hitch. 15seconds sounds like you are not properly logged on.

Are you able to log on correctly via a iPad or iPhone? This should verify your account is working fine.
