Yes, generally...
@deep_333 Remember, they can always do that to you! Lose, lose in my opinion.

If member opinions don’t carry any weight, there is always a quick account delete button. But, here it is, an entire lousy thread on this topic smh..."except for a few exceptions", he says...he must be a very special high level kinda guy, right fellas?..mmhm, we've seen his kind.... Well, one could always approximate the "few" to "zero" (3/1000 is approximately equal to 0/1000) and just close his account, i suppose. A moment of self-reflection, ah...I primarily log on here check classifieds/check if the kind of stuff i want shows up or not.... to be fair, I suppose one would also keep an open account for that purpose. |
To quote SNS’s comment “ I use social media as a survey…” Similar to my approach to buying something from Amazon… look at the comments, see the overall rating and see what the pattern is and learn about the product. I get astonished at the negative mud slinging… it’s a hobby and as long as you enjoy your stuff that’s all that is really important.

@nonoise + 1 (as usual!) |
He is like the common cockroach, @nonoise , he just keeps coming back |
Don't worry folks. Pretty soon texasjerry will lose it like he always has. He always goes out with a bang, cursing, berating, using huge font, etc. Not long after he does that, he'll be banned again. It might behoove newer members here to take notes (mental or the old fashioned way) so when he does reincarnate himself with a new moniker, that weird feeling that you've heard this tool before but just can't place him will all come to fore and then make sense. All the best, |
I could not have said it any better. I am not a big poster, but I read the discussions daily to maintain what little Audio knowledge I have! There are very knowledgable audiophiles here, who help so many people, even when many answers are "too" easy. Some answers require valid questions. If one cares for a good answer, this forum will help those get in the right direction. Obviously there are posts such as this, that may stir things up, but it allows me to say thank you to all that help and teach. You are very much appreciated and respected. Tom |

and sans upvote/downvote, not removing comments would be the only fair solution to free speech and a somewhat level playing field. Outrageous, wildly insulting comments remain on these threads forever while fact based comments have been deleted because they hurt someone's feelings - i.e. they are bothered by the truth. |

And still more words of wisdom from the member formerly known as @jerryg123 . I have got to give you credit for being consistent, @texasblues1959 . |

I read your thoughts an opinion here since i am here i think... Then even if we can disagree i cannot but consider you a "friend" like some far off family member with which i can agree or disagree, it does not change the feeling relation. If we pay attention to each others for sure... Empathy is for our own understanding of life as hearings is for audio...Perception...

That is a beautiful thought, @mahgister. |
i had learned from others here, but the reason i am here, being retired, is now because i appreciated each characters from which i read the posts... my audio system is well and answer to my needs, i learned what to do to install it... i came back because i am curious about all people opinions and life.,.. if i was 30, with a deep social life as i had with students, i will not be here, save for punctual audio needs of information... I like people as much as i like music... |
@waytoomuchstuff +1 I like 'intellectual humility', symptomatic of individuals who understand there are many known unknowns. |
My first response to the OPs topic was: "Is this a trick question?". Apparently not. With hundreds of topics and thousands of posts per year, it's hard to imagine not getting some value from this forum. Assuming that one's audio world is completely filed to the brim, and their database related to "all things audio" is complete, there's the still the element of exchange. It's not always a one-way street. Others may benefit from your knowledge and experience. We fix old audio gear (well, at least try to keep it from ending up in a dumpster). There are sites that offer free schematics. The "catch" is that you are required to upload old schematics that you may come across that they don't have in order to download from the library. My part time gig involves the development of a website where I identify, acknowledge, and celebrate our common links and connections. "Audio" has many sets and subsets. Everything from hardware, tweaking, acoustics, music, composers, musicians -- even the occasion ridiculous and absurd. This forum may not save the world. But, it will add a tad more sanity, and connect people together on a personal level. The forum also allows us to bring out the best versions of ourselves. Sharing and caring from position of strength and confidence, reaching out to those less familiar with "high performance" audio. So ... It's been said: A student is someone that understands they have something to learn." I simply call it intellectual humility. Having nothing to learn from "others" on this forum is not just arrogant. It's theoretically impossible unless you have a digital bitstream connected to the web and plugged directly into your brain. |
Everybody can help us here and many helped me in a direct and indirect way...( for the gear pieces or for advices or for musical inspiration or for discussing acoustics concepts even ASR members lost here ;) ) The list i could give will be numerous names... Only those who are not very open mind cannot learn anything from others here... Not only that but many here gave me gifts and offers with complete generosity... It is a great forum...

I’m interested in others opinions, but I wouldn’t buy something based solely on someone else’s recommendation. But it was soix’s recommendation that led me to my current speakers (which I love), but would never have considered without his suggestion. I’ve also solved some issues or considered different gear because of discussions here. But ultimately any purchase decision is mine after due consideration. |
There are a lot of incredibly smart people on this forum who understand a lot about hi-fi. It's awfully impressive. Also appreciated is their willingness to share what they know and help others. many may live isolated lives and it's fastening to see what all have done with their environments in their private worlds. A wonderful outlet for expression clearly. Unmatched. I value well communicated advice. On occasion explanations have been given and unfortunately it's difficult to follow what's been communicated, and these issues can sometimes be terribly complicated, and therein lies a challenge at times because I know they really understand it

There are some. But they are becoming a rare breed. I don’t spend nearly the same amount of time reading through posts here as I once did. That is not because my interest in audio reproduction has diminished, quite the contrary. If I’m researching a specific product, and looking for first hand user feedback, I will read through threads and hope someone who has shown themselves to have well thought out opinions on the quality of a given product, has commented. But then, as you can see from the responses to this question, it makes me wonder wtf someone is doing on this forum when they respond to this question with “Zero.Zilch.None.” Which I guess is appropriate for some, as they are not contributing anything either. Must be nice to know everything.…
