Electrical question
jea48 our over the range microwave/ hood vent fan unit is rated at 17.7KW. 1700W / 120v = 14.17 amps. My 200A electrical service doesn’t even care when it’s running. My central air outdoors condensing unit draws more than that at 240V. Even ...
??? Where Does "High End" Start ???
audiotroy high end is not about price it is intention: if you are building components where features are more important then build quality not high end vs components where parts quality and sound quality are paramount you are high end  +1.
"Users of wide-range playback equipment should compensate for the RIAA curve"
The warning was probably on the original pressing as well, a notice to distinguish the disc from competing compensation curves, such as from Decca or Columbia.
Do I need a MC cartridge now? Or an attenuator?
I think trying to make that combination of cartridge and phono preamp work well together is going to be an exercise in kludgery that will result in you not getting the best out of either component. You’re likely to get better sound by replacing ei...
I'm a little perplexed/surprised by TMR and who sells to them.....
I've had excellent experience selling to TMR.
Apple Music on iOS 26
jetter I don’t think that the music streaming market is a lucrative business in general ... It isn’t. Spotify’s profits have been, uh, spotty. Qobuz (Xandrie SA) hasn’t earned a profit. Tidal is privately owned so it’s difficult to tell fo...
What do you care about in this hobby?
I've been into audio for decades and it all matters to me. It's a passion.
antiskate disc
billstevenson Antiskate force is, was, and always will be controversial.  That's likely true. It's probably complicated by the fact that some users, and some manufacturers too, advise against using antiskate force altogether. One thing to kee...

mylogic You initiated all this denial ... Suggesting there should be a wide “study” to quantify this is plain bonkers. To further suggest what l said was a “pronouncement” was purely an intended sarcastic and uncalled for remark ... You obviousl...

dayglow Diminishing returns is a marketing/sales pitch created by the audio industry to keep budget conscious Audiophiles content ... That is simply not true. The law of diminishing returns is a well known economic principle, also known as the...

mylogic A stylus imitates a cutting head. Why would it not try to cut a groove on a blank test disc? No, a playback stylus does not "imitate" a cutting head. It’s true that modern stylus profiles do come close to replicating that of the cu...
antiskate disc
mylogic @cleeds “That sounds unlikely” “What the heck are you using for VTF?” is misinforming you. Where exactly is the misinformation there? Anyone who has ever had a test record with a test band for bias (anti-skate) adjustment can tell yo...
antiskate disc
jw944ts ... ALNIC AMBER cartridge which has a FRITZ GYER S stylus....it is so fine that it immediately cuts its own groove in the vinyl blank disc, making subsequent passes impossible ... That sounds unlikely. If true, it would render most LPs...

bimmerlover I think most of these expensive turntables look like Frankenstein monstrosities. I couldn’t agree more. Many of them are just fugly. ... it is much harder to build something that performs well that is of a simple and elegant desi...

sns Politics is about putting ideas into action, how can that not affect virtually every activity humans undertake. That's an interesting definition. I'm not sure it's commonly accepted. If those political actions  directly or indirectly...
