It’s an art 😉
Really. They let him go because he wouldn’t get a shot? I honestly could NOT get mine fast enough. Yesterday lost a guy that was in my wedding. Luis Munoz the day before he became a great grandfather at 72. Covid/type II diabetic. Never smoked or drank, just worked like a dog.. He went to heaven, stupid Covid. He sure didn’t get it from someone that wasn’t infected or a carrier. SARS is contagious and deadly to some with compromised immune systems.. I know one guy that has had it off and on for over 8 months. He keeps testing positive. Drinks moonshine, that may have something to do with it.. His gizzard is plugged.. BTW my chickens don't cackle, they are into yoga and Chip & Dale Roosters. More of a cat call I believe..
@oldhvymec Nope all stuff he told me. you sure crackle like your chickens a lot.
There are a lot of us here that are just getting started. We don’t have this common knowledge. That is why we come here. It’s tough to know the truth when the parents are fighting.

Buicks had an inline 8 too. Studebaker, Hercules, Gray marine, Industrial Ford, Waukesha, Cat, Detroit, Cummins. Allisons (sucked) and Merlin/Packard or Merlin/Rolls (was better), Deutz. Inline and V 8-16 I worked of a few turbans too. Guess what the firing order is on that.. LOL. IN and OUT. Wankel was weird too. Polluting pile of crap.. Detroit 2 strokes use to fill the streets with white unburned fuel.. It was everywhere. Loved that.. They would run on bacon fat, used oil, hydraulic oil, a little gas, if you put it in the fuel tank they would burn it.. Now they would blow up. I paid 17K each for a whole fleet of 359 Pete. 35 one year 40 the next. Now a fancy muffler is 15K. Go figure. What is this thread about? Brownies? I should have remembered that. One to many brownies I guess.. :-) Regards
In response to mr_m: 1-6-2-5-8-3-7-4 Packard straight-8 firing order... By the time we get to Merlins and Allisons, they’ll be dunking us in the Virtual Ether...

ah @jjss49 gotcha. Yes I agree that is how it should be. Just pointing out that there is nothing that enforces that. Levels of integrity will vary. People should be aware. It’s a business at the core though so anything deemed good for business ie sales that is legal will be tolerated on the forum. At least that has been my observation. Cheers!
i too have been on a-gon since the beginning... there is another thread about forum posters with hidden agendas longstanding participants like almarg, oregonpapa, tvad, even ralph/atmasphere separate out their contributions here in discussion threads from any activities of buying or selling used gear on the listing part of the site (as do i) i’m not naive about life, or about following the money - my angle on this is about the integrity of idea exchange and info sharing in the forum, versus commercial endeavor in the listings section (which for a-gon is the money maker, no doubt)...the distinction between the two parts is the different missions - this distinction is important, worth preserving, worth defending from those who blur the line and try to take advantage... perhaps we are agreeing, just coming at the reality of the matter from different angles
Jerry you sure know a lot about MC. I though I was nosey. AND I am. Where are you getting this stuff? Do you work for "The Enquirer"? Good Lord! Gladys Kravitz. :-) Lost his Job, because he refused to get vaxxed? He did ALL his post from work? OK you say so.. So the pictures of his room is actually where he use to work? Did he take it with him? I bet he took his lava lamp at least. I gotta go out and fix the elephant, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, crocodile, tyrannosaurus rex, and velociraptor fence.. It's lookin' a little ragged. I'll settle for the second page of "The Globe" right next to "Ops Octomom goin' for a cool dozen". Regards
Not really. An Audiogon account provides user access to both, so a user gets to have at both in any way they see fit, as long as they do not violate rules or break laws. The forum is the obvious and most direct way to conjure up business on the sales side if desired. Understanding that most close connection between the two is key to understanding a lot of what goes on in the forum. Just follow the money...
not arguing the point, but there is an important distinction to be made... the main site lists items for sale and it for business transactions, but the forum does not, it is a place for discussion... they are adjacent and related, but separate...
I miss Geoffkait as well... He will always be the Canoe to my English Leather. Just noticed that Cindymeant has not posted since 1/11/22, but Tubebuffer is still buffing away (albeit with numerous deleted threads/posts). With the exception of his political/antivax/homophobic posts Millercarbon didn't really bother me (actually enjoyed some of his sarcasm). This said, we all (well most of us anyway - including myself) have our little crosses to bear (contained in/ommitting from our tiny little minds made of meat). Just hope MC's not a victim of Covid considering his being anti-vax and working in the medical profession. DeKay

On the + side with our friend GK, I was pleasantly surprised towards the end to see that he took the pandemic seriously and seemed to put all his gaslighting aside for that for whatever reason. Sounded like a different person on that topic which he seemed to take seriously. Pretty much the only topic I recall he took seriously here. Just my 2 cents....I wish him well.
You are right... But it is stronger than me to be faithful to my friend here or faithful to the best of their being... I dont criticize your perspective view at all... I accept your point of view even different of mine because you are a gentleman and if i ever hurted you, even if i would be right on some matter, i will lost my sleep... 😁 Then please, even if we are not in the same angle of view, rest assured that i respect you comnpletely... I never say you are wrong... But life is a complex pie...We never see the same object in the same angle...

@mahgister its a wonderful trait to look for the best in anyone but I have learned over the years it's important to apply all the facts fairly in that assessment and not turn a blind eye. I wish nobody harm or ill will. I endeavor to treat all kindly and with respect. I am also anti-censorship. But we all have room to improve and have a duty to call each other out on our public failings when needed.
mapman you were wiser than most... You are right... I have a selective filter for the best in any people... For example i forgot one harsh discussion i had with Geoffkait because he think that i will do too much in the tweaks department... He sells things and i sell creativity... But i forgot that... generally it was more positive than negative ... I just cant stand hypocrisy and contempt... Big ego i dont mind about that... Probably mine is too big anyway... 😉😊
| |
I personally do NOT miss Gkaits wishing cancer on some people here as he did on multiple occasions. Not acceptable public behavior anywhere, no excuses, and NOT to be fondly remembered.
@mahgister I think you may have some kind of selective filter going on in your recollections.
i missed Geoffkait humor and creativity.... He pointed to me his own Helmholtz resonator experiment many years ago ... I take my own research from this cue of him... He never explained much his idea though..But he was generous about ideas... But i could developed my own string search of listening experiments in acoustic and tweaks methods... And he was one of the very rare participant in my crazy thread audio journey : " miracles in audio" his posts are there...This was his way to encourage me... He was never harsh or rude generally just spirited mind humoristic...And passionnate.. I think i like strong ego which are open mind...

One poster above said they wished geoffkait was allowed back. I know this may be an unpopular stand, but so do I. I value true imagination and intelligence over cut and paste intelligence. Let’s put it this way: einstein - paperboy and x ray technician geoffkait - Aerospace Engineering (theoretical fluid dynamics and propulsion, statistical thermodynamics, nuclear physics, indeterminate structures). Undergrad thesis: Preliminary design of low-thrust engine for interplanetary travel utilizing momentum transfer mechanisms in highly magnetic metal crystal bombarded by high-energy ions. Work experience: satellite operations; radar data analysis; aerodynamics of high-performance aircraft; reentry vehicle dynamics; radio communications; satellite communications; spread spectrum communications. I'm sure there is "fluff" in GK's resume above, but you get the point.
With all that's been said, I'm still surprised my post was taken down when I referred to his martyrdom by some here in anticipation of his second coming. That was civil by comparison to what's been said. It appears he still has his acolytes here and they hold the same grudges he did. That, and with all the live and let live by those who want him back, how about the same treatment for those who disagreed with him, only to have their posts deleted? It's like he had a Rolodex and speed dial set up for the calvary to come to the rescue. I had no problem with MC posting his crap but I do have one when my replies and retorts were censored. Others here had the same thing happen to them. Like I've said before, A'gon is not a safe space for anyone to run ruin on others. Let and let live my butt. All the best,
@russ69 you indicate something may happen on the 9th specifically? I guess we will see. Someone must have a crystal ball and is not sharing their findings...
@jjss49 I do seem to recall that incident a year or so back.
is that really true @mapman @ozzy62? wow, if so, truly deplorable in my view... this is supposed to be a community of hobbyists first and foremost
My two cents on the topic FWIW: 1) MC had some useful opinions but nothing particularly unique or original. Most of his advice regarding phonos was useful. other things, not so much. HE operated under the assumption that worked for him was always the best thing out there which is not true. HEnce a narrow not broad view of things. VEry biased and opinionated which for some may be just what the doctor ordered. 2) He did seem to spend a lot of time trying to help others here and that was appreciated so that is a good thing. 3) He was good at promoting his way and ideas but not so good at listening to needs of others that might differ from his 4) Most importantly, on multiple instances he demonstrated a lack of integrity flinging false accusations in public against those who might not see things his way always. Very bad. Trust is a key ingrdient to any successful long lasting relationship 5) He publicly insulted and belittled others including others with credentials in this industry far beyond his. Also many highly respected members who did not tow the line. Lack of integrity and inability to get along with others is the deal breaker for me. That will get you nowhere in most places where things get done and make good things happen. That's all. I judge behavior, not people. We all have our faults and need to do better!
Cheers! | |
“ MC is/was a source of considerable Knowledge “ Really ! How much of this “ considerable knowledge “ was genuinely new ground and not merely common knowledge to most experienced HiFi guys here. Plagiarism delivered with a Superior air of having wrote the book instead of merely having read it … Good Riddance
Hello, I truly value all of your insights but that includes MC’s advise. It’s not like he did not own what he touted about. He might be selling his current amp to get the one he really wanted because it was not available at the time. I also thought it was cool he invited people into his home to listen to his system while so many of these shows are shut down. I read this forum because when it comes to audio I believe you have way more experience than I do especially since I got into 2 channel about 5 years ago. I don’t like when people belittle people but I have also heard MC has helped people when it really counts. I had a friend send me pics of Mahgister’s system. I appreciate he put in the time and money to test out the tweaks in his system. Also, he saved me on a cartridge mistake. That is what I think this forum is about. I have received a few thanks from members I have helped. So, Thank you all for saving me money and time. I will try to pass it forward.
Do I miss MC on this forum? Yes, I do. Was he arrogant? Opinionated? Exasperating? Politically incorrect? Disruptive? Yes, all that and more. But it seemed like performance art; I mean, who in his right mind would appropriate a photo of Einstein as his avatar image that wasn't deliberately trying to provoke? You haters, get over yourselves! Enjoy his posts for what they were. And what were they, besides exasperating, and all the rest? Well, for one thing, always articulate and witty; MC raised the entertainment value of this forum more than anyone else. AND he was well-informed about audio. And generous with advice, publicly and privately. His advice didn't always work for me, but it was always intelligent and worth trying. The very fact that he remains a topic of discussion in his own right, contentious or not, is something of an accomplishment. Forums like this are not just about their nominal subjects, they're also about the personalities who participate. And none was more colorful than MC. I hope he returns.
Hello, I’ve not been posting much. For those of you who are looking for someone who is contentious across a wide spectrum, so you can rally on one side or some given other.. well I can help out if you wish. I can throw my hat into the ring and be a good sub, if necessary. I’m a bit unflappable --- too much audio forum scar tissue. Which makes me a good target or rallying point. I’ve been posting and arguing about audio, on line, since the early 90’s. I’ve known and thrived in the brutatily of the audio interwebs almost a decade longer than anyone you’ve ever dealt with. In almost all instances and times, as a singular target of a broad swath of frothing outrage. Which means the same thing it always does: Beware an old audiophile in a realm where young men puke out early.... So, if youse all (any of youse) feelin’ the loss of MC and George, let me know. I can provide that old timey feelin’....
