Snowballs

Did anyone watch the Buffalo Bills-Miami Dolphins game last night?  The Buffalo fans were pelting the Dolphins with snow/ice balls and it became so bad that they halted the game and asked the fans to desist.   the thought of 300 pound, fully padded gladiators who hit each other in high speed collisions being scared of a few snowballs was hilarious.

What’s the Audio equivalent?  Someone going ballistic when a fly lands on their $100K power amp?

Bizarre take. What if an iceball from the upper deck hit you in the face? Would that be hilarious?

so because they have their football pads / helmet on, that makes it ok to do ?

So shortening your life any 20 years and having permanent brain and joint damage playing the game is perfectly normal.  But getting hit by a snowball-Dios Mio!

Next time you're driving your car, roll down your window and invite some incoming snowballs. Let us know how it goes after you get out of the hospital.

Injury suffered during the course of the game is a risk players accept. Getting nailed in the face by a frozen chunk of ice does not fall under acceptable risk.... but be dense.....

Their $100K power amp

Sick joke.

No flies around here @ 15° feels like 10°

" What’s the Audio equivalent?"

Someone throwing a tennis ball and hitting your Turntable w/ the cover down or hitting your CDP while playing.

" But getting hit by a snowball-Dios Mio!"

I don`t think you get it. There is a line that both spectators, nor players, crosses that may interfere with the game and/or jeopardizes their safety

Sometimes we have thoughts in our heads. Sometimes it is best if they stay there.

Back in the ’90s betting on pro football was a hobby of mine, so I used to watch a lot of foot ball in those days.. I remember one game, it was San Diego @ The NY Giants, (Kent Graham was the QB for The Giants at the time) and the Giants gave up a big lead and ultimately lost to The Chargers. The Giants fans turned into animals and a bunch of them started throwing chunks of ice at their own team. It actually turned in to quite a big thing & I think I remember hearing that many of them were prosecuted by using the video evidence and I think a bunch of them lost their season tickets.

I am pretty sure that I took The Giants for that one because I liked them at home, in the winter, against a Southern California team. Hardly the first or last bet I ever lost, but I never bet on a Kent Graham QBed team again.

Better than the massive dildo that a Bills fans tossed at Tom Brady a couple of years ago!  Anyone remember the ref looking puzzled and kicking it off the field? 😆

@knotscott  , I must have missed that game.  Were the refs throwing any flags for the Tackling-Tom-Brady penalty?

agree with your comment and what is funny , is if i was to make that comment, i would get a ration of sh&t for it.     but i guess it all depends on the members that read it and comment .

Where are people's manners these days? Next thing you know, people will be kidnapping governors and storming the Capitol.

And with that controversial comment -- completely factual -- this thread will get deleted. A prediction.

Wife ran a daycare for a number of years, back when I was more of a collector. Did my absolute best implementing OSHA inside that room (so I thought,) but in the end dual glossy sub enclosures fell victim to a teething toddler. The thought of filing a complaint crossed my mind. However, the feeling of being beat by a three year old is priceless and outweighed any possible deposition.

Sorry guys, I grew up in Michigan and snowball headhunting throws were my specialty ;-)

hilde45, it's the FBI's job to do sketchy stuff these days. Completely factual.

I am not sure there is an audio equivalent.  Maybe if you were playing something too loud that the neighbors didn't like and they waited for you to step outside and then they nailed you with a snow/iceball?

@builder3

👍

People are selective with their outrage.

What about all the referees and all the staff and volunteers that work the game?

@hilde45 ...*L* Well, not yet...and not by me. ;)

The fans likely more a threat to each other rather than the teams, but the refs...?

Gotta have a good arm to nail a moving target, anyway...

A lot of folks down there are not wearing helmets and pads.  Even with the gear, an ice chunk from the upper deck can take out an eye permanently.  But at least it wasn't in Philly, the snowballs would have had batteries and razor blades inside.

The refs were right to stop the game and enforce order.  Looking at some soccer highlights from Australia this weekend, it’s clear that the boundary between mischievous fan misbehavior and serious outcomes can be a thin one.  So I retract my post but won’t delete it and accept all of the criticisms.

I just can’t rid myself of the image of an ex player, maybe sixty years old, who had a long and successful career and was famous for dealing out ferocious hits, having to explain to his grandchildren that his storied career was ended by an injury caused by a…snowball

mahler123 - There’s a reason they wear helmets with face masks, some with plastic eye shields, it’s a very violent sport, and the head and face are very susceptible to serious injury.  Many on the sidelines; players, coaches, officials, police officers, security people, etc., don’t have helmets on, making your ignorant argument a moot point.  I spent 25 years as a policeman, with 15 of them also working part-time at Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers games.  There was absolutely zero tolerance for anyone throwing anything on or near the field or court, an arrest, night in jail, and date with a judge was the result.  It stated so on the tickets to the games, and an announcement stating so was made over the PA just prior to the start of the games.  Fortunately, there were very few who were ever that ignorantly stupid and thoughtless.

Only a complete moron would be throwing objects .they should have been tossed out IHave seen especially Philli fans even throwing brandy  bottles ,cups of beer these drunks are lucky the players didnot come into the stands and use them as practice dummies .some people have no respect ot brains !!

I was listening a couple of weeks ago and the sound quality suddenly improved in the left channel.  I am absolutely sure I could hear it clearly as I have been training my ears for nearly 60 years to listen critically.  I got up and looked at the arm and cartridge and then noticed a fly had landed on the left-hand monobloc, probably wanting to keep warm or dry out.

I have caught some more flies since then and I'm going to be packaging them at $199.99 each.  Those with monoblocs will require two.

When in high school a girl lost an eye to a snow/ice ball. So, not so hilarious. As far as these "Gladiators in armor" goes, Orlando Brown, OL for the Browns, was hit in the eye with a ref's flag and it literally ruined his career. The flag has a weight in it so the ref can throw it a decent distance so it can be more easily recognized, I guess. Now I have never handled a ref's flag so I have no idea how heavy or hard  it is but I can say a snowball or one that has been held in the hand for a while can become quite hard. Girl loses eye, star football player loses career, yeah real hilarious.

Orlando Brown Got Hit With a Penalty Flag, and the Freak Incident Ruined His Career - FanBuzz

Years ago, I had a cup of soda spill on my major rebuilt modified Stereo 70.  Almost cried.  But I had it all apart before.  Took it down to parade rest again.

I remember a friend telling me a kid threw an near empty coke can out a car window and knocked him off his road bike. The kid thought it was funny. My friend is 6'-3". But a bike traveling at 25 mph sees a denser object than a static piece of hollow aluminum. I'm sure a snowball would have been just as effective.

Forget the dangerously situation that represents on the road for a minute and think about the mindset that thinks this behavior is OK.

Nowadays adults act like children once did. Sports fans are sometimes the worst. The whole mob mentality is awful. I played football in high school and remember how cultish team politics can be. It really turned me off to a sport that I truly loved.

Where are the adults?

Went to the UK in 2016. There were cameras everywhere. Public trash cans were simple hoops supported by a pole with clear trash bags so you could see what someone put in them (bombs). This was even seen in the suburbs. All because: people behave a lot differently today.

It's gonna happen here too, eventually. Keep throwing those snowballs and see where we end in a few years. And then the same people will riot over lack of freedoms.

I spent much of my life in Buffalo. Very sad to see that kind of behaviour. We have always been better than that. For goodness sake, we lost 4 Super Bowls in a row and always showed a personna of grace.  Please don't hold an entire city hostage due to the acts of a few. Good people, good city. There is no audio equivalent for said actions.

@mahler123

The refs were right to stop the game and enforce order. Looking at some soccer highlights from Australia this weekend, it’s clear that the boundary between mischievous fan misbehavior and serious outcomes can be a thin one.

Fans of both clubs began throwing flares onto the AAMI Park field before making their exits, after having already launched projectiles onto the pitch following an 11th minute goal.

I do not consider the line to be "thin". These people who deliberately bring in objects designed to hurt people have clearly satisfied the dot points for any tort of intentional assault.

Should any injury or death occur, there would be criminal proceedings.

The incident only got more dangerous as Glover was hit in the head by a metal bucket filled with sand that had been designed to extinguish flares hurled in his direction. Teammates rushed to him and escorted him off the field as blood trickled down the side of his face.

“Such behaviour has no place in Australian Football, with a full Football Australia investigation to commence immediately, where strong sanctions to be handed down.”

Pro football players sign up for a lot of risk to body and mind but not to have spectators intentionally hurl things at them. It’s just wrong and should not be tolerated. Maybe they should line up the culprits and let the big boys return fire. An eye for an eye.  Then see how tough the offenders are.

Getting snowballed by strangers is generally frowned upon, wearing increased protective gear or participating/spectating in a sport does not negate this.

Eagles fans used to throw iceballs at the Dallas Cowboys. It was generally regarded as uncouth, until it was discovered some of those iceballs had D cell batteries in them. I think it was then regarded as felonious. I would imagine the NFL has a genetic memory of that and reacts accordingly.
