Get a big rock from your garden and put it on top of any component .....
I have one I've experimented with over the years, I've probably tried on every component at one time or another. On some components don't hear much if any difference, over others a bit lower noise floor, but always loss of spaciousness, somewhat dark, veiled sound quality, upper mids to high frequencies attenuated.
Experiments continue, last few listening sessions tried on Modem and now sitting on NAS, not expecting great things. |
"I've had all kinds of stones, but Birthday Cake strain gave me so far the BEST stone." czarivey- Are you aware that with all the cross breeding that's been going on since the 80's, PURE indica strains are rare and tough to get? There was a local, investigative PBS special awhile back with random samples purchased, and lab evaluated. The chemicals/fertilizers used to produce those "superstrains" contains things we just don't know what the effects will be on the body. It not the plant, but everything else that's questionable. It is not the same plant grown in the 60's-early 80's. Because the growing industry isn't controlled that much, it's a product that's processed like the junk food of today. Question your purchase. |
You never know until you try. Much cheaper ways to accomplish stated goal if it is even a problem to start with. Maybe or maybe not. Each case is different and can be assessed systematically. See @mahgister system on this very site. Beware of expensive esoteric items making bold broad claims. I use mu metal foil to shield my SUT from audible EM noise. Works great and used in many similar industrial applications. It’s proven….No magic! |
Speaking of @mahgister Just noticed that he hasn't posted in a month. If you read this hope all is well. George |
@czarivey + 1 - I'm a Grandaddy Purp man myself! |
Any weight will affect vibration in the chassis which will affect microphonics which is a known cause of sonic change. This could be waht is heard with a Shkti stone and would be hard to separate from the claim of electro magnetic affects made by Shakti. Perhaps both affects occur. The critical thing is do you really hear a sonic change and if you do, do you like it. Knowing the cause scientifically is great and reassuring but too often we aren't granted that knowledge. That's why audio is both subjective and objective. |
Flame away. I use them in my system to excellent effect. One on my preamp and one on my phono stage. It takes all of 5 seconds to remove them and another 5 seconds to put them back. I have not personally experienced any loss of spaciousness, any darkening/veiling of sound, or attenuation of upper mids and high frequencies. I just hear more detail. Probably just confirmation bias. |
@dmac67 - confirmation bias. Yup. Since you are aware, check an out of print, but easy to find book called "The Biomedical Bestiary'. Published in the mid-80s, chapters are still used in epidemiology classes today. It explains - in a biomedical context - a lot of this hobby, as well as many misunderstandings in medical research. 'Measurable But Not Meaningful' is another favorite chapter. |
@tablejockey , I appreciate your fair warning and as a DIY guy, I grow most of the stash I smoke. Vast majority I only grow from seeds and never clone any species. Even given that, today in the 21st century you can get ALL kinds of stones Indica, Sativa, Hybrid and maybe Shakti too. |
"I grow most of the stash I smoke." czarivey, good for you, you're better off. I no longer partake, but am surrounded by people who do, and I'm fascinated by the whole scene. Never imagined back in 1980 it would be available like a dozen eggs at the market! (420) Ringo Starr - No No No Song (1974) - YouTube
