Looking through these responses,(age wise) is very reminiscent of the 2019 Robin Trower concert. Which by the way was awesome. I am 54, and I think I was the youngest one there.
59. Got the bug in 80. Started with a Fisher stack. In 84 upgraded to HK integrated with Infinity Kappa 7s. Got back in in 2018 and I’ve had three sets of gear since. Now have Hegel H390 and Focal Aria 936s. Happy camper here.
I was 35 years old in 1990 when I bought my brand new pair of Klipschorns for $2800.00. I can still remember opening those boxes up and getting blasted with that smell of just being finished.
Old enough to have heard the Stones live in Hyde Park in '69, listened to the Beatles at night with my transistor radio before the first Sullivan broadcast, was shocked by the announcement of Kennedy's assassination in my school classroom, practiced duck and cover at school in preparation for a nuclear attack. What ever happened to the flying cars and personal jet packs we were supposed to have by now?
71 - Been into this hobby since I was 22. I stopped searching for the holy grail of audio years ago. It's still about the sound but it's more about the music.
I am 63 and have been into the hobby for 50 plus years...I am also happy to report that my 3 year old daughter love music too! Go figure, I guess the apple and tree thing is alive and well at our house!
Oh the days when, in my humble 100,000 size town had dealers for Magnaplaner, Quattre, Ampzilla, Carver, Audio Research, Classe, B&W, Rotel to name a few. Then there was a 20 year time lapse. Now i am a Rennaissance(sp) Man with a new setup at 64.
Just turned 43 over Thanksgiving weekend. Always had a infatuation with electronics - Having a sweet Home Theater set up was my dream growing up, best stereo set up I ever had was in my Toyota Corolla in college - think the gear cost more than the car. I’ve slid down the rabbit hole into 2 channel about 2 years ago.... 3 sets of Towers later, 2 amps and 2 different streaming rigs / DAC’s later still on that journey to find Audio Nirvana. No shortage of ways to spend money in this hobby!
Young enough to kick any of your butts, haha! (well, maybe except for those dudes in their 30’s). Never used a slide rule, but have actually seen, used, and changed the ribbon (was that what they were called?, I forget....) on a manual typewriter......
I think I'm the third oldest. Because if you don't remember transistor radios, duck-and-cover drills, Pinkie Lee, and late-night test patterns, how can you be trusted on sound quality?
71. Had to gear up my old ears with aids but still enjoy listening. Still playing the system I’ve had for several years though you folks keep me tempted to upgrade it. Mac C27 quad 405-2 nad c538 pioneer pl-50 dahlquist dq10’s polk sub
67 Interesting that the majority are in their mid to late 60s. Actually thought that most were retired. Some sure take a lot of time out of their days to write volumes!
I am 65. My first system was a Webcor President (Turntable and amp all in one with detachable speakers) I received for Christmas in 1965, that was the start. Now the journey continues .
