All the animosity for Springsteen is a condition that was generated by envy . . . many many many years ago it was known as BDS, but Bruce, being the extremely talented and gracious gentleman that he always was and is, put an end to that saying, and it disappeared until the sycophants of you-know-who brought it back into existence.
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?
For me there is one that has always been top of the list.
Edith Piaf…..l just can’t think of anything worse.
Do not get me wrong and consider my choice is in any way racist….l love to listen to music with songs in any language… Italian, French, Spanish…..
Russian and German can however be extremely demanding, but Edith Piaf (if possible in any language) is a potential harrowing experience.
Do any others on here have a similar artist, or artists that can trigger the same physical reaction?
I went to see Tommy Bolin and was blown away even in the crappy venue, they whole band was incredibly good yet nobody was paying attention to them. They were the warmup for a new band called Rush. As soon as Rush came up on stage almost everyone went nuts over them and they were simply awful, so bad I had to get out of there as soon as I could. The worst concert I ever heard, maybe they got better over time but I sure did not waste my time finding out. Later years when I would hear them I would turn it off, walk away, etc. Rick |
@mylogic , um, I was not the one who made the statement that Doris Day and Peggy and Ella needed to wear an athletic supporter. You might want to check with the OP of that one. |
My comment about country and the rest of pop means all of it, all acts but there are some good singers and musicians trapped in horrible contracts forced to produce such drivel, I feel sorry for them. Most older pop is terrible as well but some was kind of fun way back in the day and some enjoyable still. All the screech bands as well and the growling hate the world crap, not even sure what it is called. OK, only listed one name so far...OK, got it, Barry Manilow. Rick |
Hey guys, I was obviously speaking figuratively when I posted about today's female jazz singers carrying Ella's, Peggys and Doris Days jock strap. Well, it was obvious to most of you. Also, I genuinely feel bad for anyone that says that they don't like the Beatles. They are obviously are clueless. Wait, scratch that last comment. It might be true, but I don't care to get attacked by the Beatle haters out there. There is one here and I met only one other in my lifetime. I think we should put both of them in a room and make them listen to "The Long and Winding Road" on an endless loop for all Eternity. |
I don't know about that, I enjoyed listening to Bruce Springsteen's 45-minute interview by Teri Gross on NPR and I appreciated his outlook on life, yet I can't bring myself to like his music. My point being, I guess, about the ability to disassociate the art from the artist.
|
@devinplombier , I have appreciated Sprinsteen’s truly massive amount of musical talent and song writing ability LONG before I knew of his political ideology and BDS became a thing with the Faux "News" sycophants. |
‘Why would your choice of Edith Piaf be racist? I’m not getting that’
It’s not. One other reply said how could l think that because, ‘the woman is whiter than Casper the Ghost’ l said racism is not just colour but nationality. Just like texting can throw up so many misunderstandings…. Your ‘roxy1927’ for example could imply you are 97 or 98
Just saying. |
Either that or force Scabby Road on me, @spin4cards ; pure torture. |
My agreeing on Springsteen is actually my error in the spirit of this thread. I can certainly listen to his songs without turning them off. I just don't understand the cult following and mega-stardom. Same with the Grateful Dead. But that's probably because I wasn't a pot headed, acid popping hippy. 🤔 |
Well, @thecarpathian , as the fans of The Beatles used to say after a hard days night of getting loaded on Nembutal, "We all live in a yellow submarine." Then, after they slept that off, they would get together and drop acid and sing mindless repetitive choruses of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. |

@blackbag20 +1 on "muted trumpet." A musical quirk of mine is that I hate muted trumpet because it is so rarely done well. Usually, it is derivative and/or cheesy. I submit these as two examples of doing it right:
MARK EITZEL - "Mission Rock Resort": 60 Watt Silver Lining - 96 WENDY MaHARRY - "Backstabbing Girls": Fountain of Youth - 91 |
Thank you for your negative review ‘’A rose by any other name would smell so sweet’’ Even Shakespeare had consistent bad reviews during his early career. Thank you for your research and for the insight into the above member. You and l know most people read reviews for album, film and book releases. Readers of such reviews should expect that they may not like what they find.
I will keep this post open……sometimes a man’s got to do what a man’s got to do…..No it’s not like that, it’s just that sometimes l just can’t help myself.
If this thread carries on it shows the interest is ongoing and entertaining. I find reading other opinions of value and so many comments are highly amusing.

@mylogic , I humbly withdrew my post as I am trying hard not to put forth into the world more negative vibes that are already out there. Unless it’s about singers with crappy voices... |
And now, the rest of the story... |
"Janis Joplin, John Frusciante -- the list goes on and on. There’s nothing fun about dancing with Mr. Brownstone, but Lennon was using the drug in the late ’60s, and ‘Happiness Is a Warm Gun' is about that push-and-pull of addiction, and "shoot, shoot" may be a reference to, well, shooting up. Luckily, Lennon beat the habit and avoided becoming another drug casualty.Heroin is a mistake a lot of great rockers have made. Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley," But if you wish to believe there is no smocking gun, I have no wish to shatter your illusions. "I need a fix 'cause I'm going down Mother Superior jumped the gun Happiness is a warm gun (bang, bang, shoot, shoot) When I hold you in my arms (ooh, oh, yeah) |
In reality, @thecarpathian , I do not actually hate The Beatles. In truth, many times in the way distant past I engaged in the illicit use of both licit and illicit drugs while their music was blasting on the stereo. Just for the fun of it I was joining in on all the hate-posts for a while. There is not a lot that I truly hate, although some of what I mentioned would fit into that category . . . as far as The Beatles, I feel quite neutral about them--which to some would be synonymous with hate because I am referring to The Beatles. However, quite seriously, I’d rather listen to Darkness On The Edge Of Town or Blood On The Tracks as opposed to anything by The Beatles. But that does not mean that I hate them. |
Have to agree with VThokie. I think anything recorded with autotune sucks. If you cannot sing it or record it you have no business making the freaking record! Of course there is quite a bit of music I do not like. Hey it is not my cup of tea. That does not mean I should bash someone else for liking something!! |
@hickamore You beat me to it! “James Taylor, who if not favored by family connections, an ingratiating personality, and lucky timing (a cultural moment of stunning vapidity -- "I'm OK, You're OK;" "Johnathan Livingston Seagull;" "Love Story" -- "Fire and Rain" was of a piece) would have become the summer camp music director he was born to be.” |
These are a few more bands who would force me to change the station if I still listened to the radio. The list is a lot longer than I thought it would be, but there's a lot of bad music out there. Pretty much all Heavy Metal Kiss Bon Jovi Nirvana Toto Any band featuring David Lee Roth Spin Doctors Hootie and the Blowfish All Boy Bands (New Kids, N'Sync, Jonas Bros etc) Nickelback Little River Band Air Suppy Michael Bolton Nelson Bobby Goldsboro And of course, Kenny G |
