Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?

For me there is one that has always been top of the list.

Edith Piaf…..l just can’t think of anything worse.

Do not get me wrong and consider my choice is in any way racist….l love to listen to music with songs in any language… Italian, French, Spanish…..

Russian and German can however be extremely demanding, but Edith Piaf (if possible in any language) is a potential harrowing experience.

Do any others on here have a similar artist, or artists that can trigger the same physical reaction?

mylogic

The fact that so many of the artists that people mention is being absolutely miserable to listen to have hundreds of millions of devoted fans and Decades of legacy simply speaks to the relative quality of music appreciation. I'm not sure why people are getting bent out of shape just because someone doesn't like their preferred artist. That's something high school kids do, not adults.

@immatthewj Out of context but heck most 12 year olds take everything out of context.

Bruce is a talent less twit.

@mylogic for you maybe.

@simao

….. ‘people are getting bent out of shape’

Just love that description.

As the OP l have to agree with you.
My original post was to just say what rattled me with a certain artist. She came on the radio at lunch that day and brought it right back again. The reaction, not the food!

It was to enquire if any physical reactions occurred to other music lovers and which artists suddenly garnered such a reaction. I didn’t want to impart a critical comment on the singers performance as musical tastes are individual preferences.
The over reaction and laying into individual artists just shows those people who do cross that line of intolerance.
That in return l believe has made this post so comical and entertaining.

Currently it is top of Audiogons popular recently ‘music’ leaderboard after just 5 days with  4350 views and 255 posts.

I dislike artist that has great talent but they fall into a routine, they rely too much in their talent and don’t try hard enough.

This is the reason I appreciate artist who puts their soul and emotions into their act. Like Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, James Brown, etc

. . . if the meter would have worked out better, The Boss could have titled his best selling album Triggering Snowflakes In The USA.  As it was, it only sold over 30 million. . . .

I wonder how Born To Trigger would have gone over back in ’75?

WAY too many to list...

My tastes in music tend toward to the progressive and avant-garde.

I am not at all interested in music that does not meet the criteria I love in music.

Those criteria are, in no particular order: very high levels of musicianship, deep and broad ranges of emotional and/or intellectual content conveyed, moderate to high levels of complexity, (usually) long form songs. I am not usually interested in: hooks, verse>chorus>bridge>repeat song structure.

So, almost all of mainstream music bores me at the very least, or annoys me. Even stuff I used to listen to and love, is not very tolerable for me.

Smoking gun. Child's play, I do not know any of the Twit's music. That is a Jersey thing. In Texas we do not listen to that crap. Well maybe those snowflakes in Austin do.

Thinking your daddy did not hug you or you were bullied in school.

Sorry Karen never listened to Bruce’s music one song was all it took to know he is piss poor musician and a horrid songwriter.

Would love to do the Texas two step for you.

"While Springsteen is from New Jersey, he has a strong connection to Texas, having played numerous sold-out concerts in the state and even referencing Texas in some of his songs."

LOL!  "What have you got to loose," @texasblues1959 ?

Like I said the Woke Bitches in Austin.

Oh well I have my hearing to lose, my dignity (to wit I scrape more of it away conversing with the like of you) Only musicians from Jersey I like is Frank and Blondie. The rest just don’t do it for me. Enjoy your sad sack Bruce and his band of merry wokesters.

I think the above two guys should have their heads banged together.

There…..l’ve gone and said it now!

Or hambags at dawn…….

?

This has been a quite civil discourse, @mylogic ; as opposed to, for an example, some of the discussions on the cables forum.

@immatthewj

….quite a civil discourse

l know, and has been, but if this was not on the internet it could have turned into a boxing match by now….Ha

Just trying to be a mediator may not be the right course l’m now thinking…….

Engage!

I grab the remote control as fast as I can whenever Bruce Springsteen or Tom Petty start playing.  However, I did watch Springsteen's performance at the Democratic convention, and it was pretty sad.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned him yet, but I despise anything by Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters.

Smokin’ Gloves v Toilet Sponge

@mylogic , are you sure you don’t mean "No Smocking Gloves"?

thinks he is clever.

You do set the bar pretty low, @texasblues1959 , so I don’t consider it any great feat during an interaction with you.

No Matty you get the benefit of the handicap, not like in golf, that you are handicapped that is. My parents told me to not pick on the kids who take the short bus and lick windows.

Well bye.

Ouch!  I have been zapped!  I take back my "low bar" comment;  you are quite cerebral (even considering the mispunctuation).

In the music world, Springsteen is a conman. Bad songs, bad performances. Good marketing. Craps sells if people are told that it's cool.
On the other hand, Queen was just brilliant, they needed no marketing.

Ha ha!

The masterpiece of the 20th century, Darkness On The Edge Of Town, with  greats like Badlands, versus utter dog crap such as Jazz with basically bubblegum caliber tunes like Fat Bottomed Girls?  Going back to many many posts ago, Freddy Mercury is someone else who would have been honored to carry Bruce’s jock strap.  Enough said about that.  Next contender?

So refreshing to see I'm not the only one to find Bruce intolerable. Bad voice, shitty band and the subject of his songs lame. But he seems to be a nice enough guy.

From born in the USA- only a strapper would write " I'm a cool rocking daddy from the USA.

The definition of mindless:

"Bicycle, bicycle, bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle, bicycle, bicycle
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride my bike
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride it where I like"

well, many Springsteen's songs are just pure, fake shallow pretentious BS.  I take simple, playful, even silly any day over that BS

Kiss- they are laugh-out-loud-at-them horrible musicians.

However, they were (are) VERY good businessmen- in the PT Barnum sense of the word.

Asia, Bad Company, Foreigner, Motorhead, Motley Crew, Kiss, Springsteen, BTO, Kansas, Natalie Merchant, Neil Sedaka, Duran Duran, Boston, Thin Lizzy, Josh Gorban, Elvis, Michael Bublé, Kendrick Lamar, 4 Seasons, Guns 'n Roses, Dio, Bon Jovi, Scorpions, Michael Bolton, Madonna

@bzawa

Many, many names……24

But a question……do any of them cause you physical or repellant irritation as such like the example l described in my original post?

Its okay to nominate more than one artist (or artists), but your long list is vague or meaningless unless you can enlighten us with some reasoning behind it. For example, when hearing them, are their any allergic or debilitating conditions their music inflicts on you?

Please share…..

When I hear a song by Bush I want to puke. No really vomit cannot turn the volume down fast enough. Not even Bruceee makes me feel that way. But he is a close second.

well, many Springsteen's songs are just pure, fake shallow pretentious BS.  I take simple, playful, even silly any day over that BS

Freddy Mercury is looking up at us from below and wishing that he would have had the creative talent it took to write lyrics such as these:

The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison's singing for the lonely
Hey, that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone agai
n. . . .

@immatthewj “No Smocking Gloves” your killin me.

@bikeboy52 , I just opened a crapload of emails from A’gon admin informing me that this was way way way off limits.

Why do I sense that @immatthewj is going to re-enter the stage at any moment?

@mylogic , judging from the emails from A’gon Admin I have just opened, I have been triggering the snowflakes even more than Bruce does.  Since I don’t know where the line that cannot be crossed is, I will now officially leave this thread to the Bruce-Haters.
