I’ve been doing this for years now- and it’s time for our 2025 wish list!
In 2024, I added a new power supply for my turntable- a Radikal power supply for my turntable.
My goal for 2025, as it has been for a number of years now, is to explore and add more music. Streaming has been a fantastic way of exploring new to me music, and in some instances after streaming an album, I also wound up buying it on vinyl.
What’s your audio goal for 2025? A new preamp? A DAC? More music?
I’m very late to this thread. But just completed my 2025 upgrades over the last 6 weeks or so.
I bought Legacy Audio Whispers (mains) and a Marquis center channel speakers way back at end of 2009. That tapped me out financially so I figured I would get the complimentary surround speakers and subwoofer a little bit down the road to complete my home theater setup. Well life took over POOF 15+ years went by.
Anyway, I finally got there! I added the Legacy Foundation subwoofer. I ditched the Klipsch KG2.2’s I was using as surround speakers and replaced them with the Legacy Studio HD’s. And while I was at it, I bought the Atoll MS120 streamer.
So I think I am done for this year. But you never know……
My goal for the year is to be able to return to my home after last year's fire and replace all the equipment that either went up in smoke or was drowned by the fire department. Given that that looks like it won't come to pass this calendar year, I'd like to find a pair of Ohm F's that have been recently and correctly refurbished at a reasonable price and possibly get my hands on a Marantz Cinema 30. Failing those two things, I'd like to see my investments do a bit better than they have here recently.
Congratulations on scoring a vintage TD124. I went back n forth between TD124 and Garrard 301….end with 301. Both great TT’s and while restoration can be PIA, the end result is well worth it. I am really enjoying tweaking my 301 to nth degree. Can’t wait to see TD124 in your beautiful room.
A neighbor passed away, and he had a lot of audio gear. Krell, McIntosh, SOTA, Apogee, etc. His children were selling his gear- and while I don't need anything, he also had a Thorens TD124 with an SME 3009 arm.
Ever since I passed up on buying a Marantz 10b for $600 some years back, I had in mind that if I ever came across a similarly inexpensive 10b, or a Garrard 301 or a Thorens TD124, and the price was right, I would snap it up. In the case of the TD124, the price was right.
The table hasn't been used in 50 years and needs some refurbishment. Once that is finished (almost there) and I obtain a nice plinth (the 124 used to be mounted in a sliding shelf in a cabinet), it will be incorporated into my system.
His other turntable was a Sota Star Sapphire with an SME V arm and a VdH cartridge, but while nice, I could not view it as something I should target.
Oh, Oh, I bought a turntable- a Thorens TD124 at an estate sale. I knew the owner well and bought the table from his daughter. It came with an SME 3009 Series 2 arm. Both are being refurbished now. My understanding is that it was bought in the mid 60's and then replaced in the 70's with a Denon; that lasted another decade and that was replaced by a Sota Star Sapphire, with an SME V arm and a VdH cartridge. The SOTA was also part of the estate sale, but I only had my eye on the Thorens.
I wasn't planning on new speakers but I bought a pair of Studio Electric M4 M9nitors for my second system. They are so good it's silly. Amazing speaker.
To expand on the previous post I had 11 zones in my home with either two or 5.2 channel video/audio and hopefully sometime around june I will get to move back into my home and begin refurnishing it with a/v gear for those 11 locations. My expectations are fluid with some openness to modifying those areas with more suitable equipment and source material. Not necessarily more expensive, but just more suitable for the application. I am rethinking the whole house and hopefully going to end up with a more suitable setup for the way we live. Many things are being considered. Its gonna be a busy and involved experience.
My system is set in my new room, added 2 GIK absorbing panels. I'm set. My new room is somewhat larger than my old listening space and has a higher ceiling. One notable change is that my streaming previously was via an Ethernet connection; now it's via wifi, and I'll be damned- the wifi works flawlessly and might even sound better that the ethernet.
I think for the rest of the year it's going to be looking for new music.
Time for me to chime in- I have just moved and need to rebuild my system in my new home. The components are locked down- the challenge for 2025 will be the acoustics of the new room coupled with speaker placement.
I have all the gear I need. Would like to get my dc motor upgrade from Origin Live installed on my Townshend Rock 7. Had the Funk Firm FRX rewired with Audio Note silver/KLE Harmony a while back.
Just that we get a final electrical inspection and a certificate of occupancy this week for our new home in Tennessee AND that I find time in 2025 to finish my “man cave”/audio room/office and get my HiFi set up again.
Also considering a Denafrips 15th Gen DAC to work into my system, but am generally happy with the Topping D90LE with BT as I use my iPhone13 for a streamer off my library and Pandora.
My wishlist includes another pair of Wilson watch surrounds or Alitas. Ideally ,2 sets. Im also looking at getting either Sasha 2 or Sasha DAW, though I keep looking at Yvettes, but I am convinced I need to have the adjustable Mid and HF.
Re new gear in ‘25, I’d like finally to purchase an ultrasonic LP cleaner - hesitant to pay the premium for a degritter, so trying to decide between Humminguru and Kirmuss.
DIY build of new main system small tower speakers using the highest quality efficient single drivers that are reasonably affordable….the plan is to build a 45”x10”x14” bass reflex cabinet using the Hungarian made Solido 6x9 Field Coil drivers with power supply. Should be a fun eye (and ear) opening project in 2025! Cheers to another great year in Audio!
Been searching for weeks. All I want is a DACless (preferably) streamer under $1000can, ample connections, preferably not Chinese and an excellent UI that works. Compliments my Chord Qutest DAC, Bryston amplification and Dynaudio speakers. I've given up on sound signature attributes other than I'm old and allergic to glare etc.
Just a simple streamer that works. I've read many times that Bluesound sonic signature is lifeless and I don't need multi-room anything and some are not fond of the UI. Wiim - Chinese plastic of questionable quality- one owner had RCA's breaking from the board. Etc etc. Btw, I'm mostly looking at pre-owned.
Since the amp that drive the 12" woofers on my Altec's died this morning, My first goal will be to find a replacement. The joys and setbacks of the hobby.
Funds to: complete my dedicated listening room, buy a new high end streamer, a new DAC (Denafrips Terminator 15th?), and another set of speakers (Volti Lucera or Rivals, Joseph Audio Perspective Graphenes, or Linkwitz LK521 Reference....as of today)
