Speakers sound too bright.
I know purists would shudder to think that anyone serious about sound quality would stoop so low as to do this but this could be dealt with via EQ. turn down the treble and see if it solves the problem. Its a cheap and easy fix. If you cannot eq o...
Re; Dynamics, Class D vs tubes…
I think the real answer is that you can probably find samples of each class of amplifier design that could be compared directly and hear no difference at all, especially at low volumes. On my desktop system I am often at less than 1 watt drive lev...
Speakers for low level listening
Try a pair SVS Pinnacle Primes or possibly some Legacy Focus se used could by had for your budget
How long should high quality speakers last?
While State Farm insurance is no authority on matters concerning audio gear they do assign a life beyond which there is no depreciation applied beyond a certain age and that number is 10 years. This might be useful information to someone here and ...
Matching solid state amps with tube based pre amps
I have considered buying class D amps with tube buffers but am concerned that the inclusion of a tube would muddy the sound enough that I would not like the overall effect.
I am sad
@kerrybh Thanks for your kind words. Its a good thing they haven't outlawed liquor in VA yet. :). There are many days that end with 2 or 3 stiff ones. The wife is taking it better than I am and it helps me to see someone a bit calmer about it all ...
Anybody having trouble getting near-your-asking-price for used gear ? (Plz. no hype)
interesting thread and very insightful comments from many...I have a tendency to buy used or new and almost never sell it. I buy what I wish to use and keep and avoid selling off 'spare' equipment. I can almost always find a use for spares so they...
I am sad
I certainly get the desire to have that which you cherish working and fully functional again. How about this perspective. Losing your home to fire and everything of value in it, save for a few less desirable pieces. I can still listen to music via...
One Sub or Two?
Subs are available at widely varying price points and the lower you go in bandwidth or in desired SPL across that bandwidth the more you will spend. If your sub is supporting music reproduction only, there is very little point in having extension ...
Inexpensive tablet well suited as a control point for my streamers, including Sony
While my choice for a streamer is likely well below what most of you can afford and would choose to buy, my choice for a streamer is going to be based on its feature set as much as its sound quality. Granted we all want sound quality that is appea...
Inexpensive tablet well suited as a control point for my streamers, including Sony
This is a topic of some interest to me as it seems almost any streamer you buy needs a wifi based OS that has the ability to run the controller for the streamer in question. certainly low cost options to do this are desireable and I am guessing th...
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers?
@mapman I am considering a pair of these for our open area floorplan family room area. The extra subs in the bottom of them should fill that area nicely with good bass. :) @bondmanp I like them very much though I have to agree the quality control...
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers?
@bondmanp I appreciate your input. I am currently running a pair 2000s in my office with svs PC 2000 subs (2) and that combo gives honest full range sound that I have no quibbles with. Its very satisfying to listen to and is truly reference qualit...
Anyone dislike Ohm Walsh speakers?
@bakufu I gather you are quite pleased with your ohm F5s. It leads me to wonder if you auditioned any of their other Omni speakers before settling on the F5. I am not saying your choice was wrong, far from it. I'm interested to know if the F5 was ...
$3500 floor standing speakers used. What would be your choice ?
@mulveling - I am genuinely curious about your post concerning phase errors in multi-driver speakers. I was reading Floyd Toole's book on Sound reproduction and he makes a point in that book that phase errors in normal full range systems are not u...
