Any Consultation available to set up a system with used equipment
Consider getting a used Trinnov AL16; the DSP and Room correction are top-notch. I have one I bought used a few years back, my speakers are a collection of Wilson Audio, some new, some used, and JBL in the ceiling. I have gone from Monoblocks for ...
Getting 4K with Classe SSP-800
Your TV will automatically upsample any 1080p content, so there's no benefit to relying on the TV for video processing. Avoid using Optical or eARC for audio—both are bandwidth-limited and won't deliver full-resolution formats like Dolby TrueHD or...
Considering switching to XLR cables,
My system is exclusively XLR, except where it’s impossible—like my turntable and tube preamp, which use RCA. For cables, I use Mogami with Neutrik connectors. You can build or buy them pre-made; the pricing is very reasonable. My thinking is simp...
Looking for a more solid-feeling turntable (and maybe a new preamp)
If you're not familiar with Micro Seiki, they made incredibly solid turntables—more utilitarian than elegant in appearance, but built like tanks. Personally, I think mine has a kind of industrial beauty to it. I own the RX-1500 with the separate ...
Best 4K Player in Terms of Transport Mechanism
If you can get an Oppo 205, it has the best analog out and uses separate power supplies. I had the 203, then sold it after I heard the 205.
Anyone try the Kaleidescape Strato V? Seems to eliminate the need for the crazy server?
I have the Stratos S with 6TB of internal storage, and I love it. I’ve considered upgrading to the V for Dolby Vision, but honestly, that feature is overhyped. I can watch the same movie on my Oppo 205 and my Kaleidescape, and I don’t notice anyth...
Does You Subwoofer Settings ??
I didn’t see it mentioned, but a 16" subwoofer may not be ideal for music reproduction compared to a 12". I haven't heard the SVS 16 myself, but when I was shopping for subwoofers, I was advised against going with a larger one for my needs: about ...
2025 Audio System Wish List Time!
@ricred1 Get the Amplitude 16. My wishlist includes another pair of Wilson watch surrounds or Alitas. Ideally ,2 sets. Im also looking at getting either Sasha 2 or Sasha DAW, though I keep looking at Yvettes, but I am convinced I need to have the...
The end of physical media is neigh
Physical media remains the gold standard for visual and audio fidelity unless you own a Kaleidescape. I envision a future where physical media retains its value, much like the resurgence of vinyl records. While we can debate whether streaming surp...
Right channel phono stage tube goes noisy
I have had some luck working the tube socket with a gentle rocking motion to clean the pin contacts. I'm not sure, but I think they can oxidize over time or get dirty from atmospherics.
Friends hi-fi system not very good, what do you do or say?
I always try to be diplomatic, keeping my own HiFi journey in mind—the decades it has taken, like for most of us, to get to where we are. With that perspective, I make thoughtful suggestions that align with incremental financial steps, understandi...
Bose buys McIntosh
I’ve not been a fan of Mc, so my feelings about it are meh. I will tell you, I was gifted a pair of Bose ultra in ear Nc headphones and was blown away by them. I do a lot of shop things that involve power tool. Seriously good and sound quality whi...
Two 330A versus one 860A?
Seeing as the 860 is essentially two mono blocks in a single chassis, simpler is better in the less is more age. What speakers do you want to drive? 225 pc @ 8ohm is solid numbers with a double at 4.  Considering the cost difference between 860 an...
Please help with Roon server/core issue
Looking forward to your findings.
Please help with Roon server/core issue
Often, opting for the simplest approach yields the best results: Lowering your sample rate from 192 can significantly help, and you're likely not to discern any difference. I use 24/96, and it works wonderfully for me. In truth, by persisting with...
