How long does Class A have?

Hi Guys/Gals
I have a Sugden A21SE which is a Pure Class A single ended design, I absolutely love this musical amplifier with its strangely plentiful 30wpc, it runs hots as they do, I always enjoy watching the faces of my uninitiated friends when they touch it after I mention they get hot, lol.
But in this modern green era I wonder just how long do Class A amplifiers have before Greta Thunberg gets wind of this inefficient method of creating sound and pisses on the parade?

Thoughts?

There is no point in engaging. They pull out phrases like “free speech”, “censorship”, “right to an opinion” etc. It’s sad that these people are unable to pull themselves out from under their feelings of being disenfranchised. So many who where made promises to when they were young, promises that never came true. The “Elite” and educated are to blame. That is who is holding them back. The great conspiracy is what held them back. Not the fact they were sold a bill of goods, and they never had what it takes. At the core of this is their need to feel relevant. That they are above all the rest, seeing a truth that we are incapable of seeing for our selves. They live in an imaginary place where they are the gatekeepers, and we are the “sheep”. Sad really. People are very much allowed to have their own opinions, and to state them. However, not all opinions are of equal value. Some opinions are so misinformed that they are indeed dangerous. Opinions are like asses. We all have them, we need them. Many, however are full of $hl1.
@sgreg, very perceptive.  The rich run the world for their own benefit.  Did you think that up by yourself?
""The List" - Scientists who Publicly Disagree with the Current Consensus on Climate Change - Electroverse"
Pretty short list compared to the thousands who say otherwise! Apparently the electroverse site is not regarded as much more than a haven for crackpots:
https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/electroverse/
For cases like this, Occam's Razor is a handy tool for wading thru messes (she said he said) like this.  Here is one 'scientist' claiming:
https://electroverse.net/the-next-30-years-will-be-cold-says-climate-scientist-dr-willie-soon/
but then we find out that he's got some interesting funding, as reported by the Guardian 6 years ago or so:
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/feb/21/climate-change-denier-willie-soon-funded-energy-...
When you see something like this, the more complex explanation is that despite all the evidence to the contrary and the money being paid to him by big oil and political groups with an agenda that he's telling the truth. The simpler explanation is he's paid to lie. Occam's Razor is handy for things like this.

and i am so naive... i thought this was a site for high end audio and music...

mosty old men here, evidently don’t care much about leaving a healthy planet for future generations, oh well

isn’t the new john mayer album nice?
Pretty short list compared to the thousands who say otherwise!

It's short because these scientists were the only ones who dared to go public, there are many more. Any climate scientists that disagree that man may not be the cause or study alternate theories get ridiculed and some even have there careers ruined. That's not how science should be.
It doesn’t really matter whether it’s science or propaganda; the non-believers will always find an exit-clause that aligns with their politics. At the end of the day, we are spewing pollutants into the air and water in an unsustainable manner. The planet is not healthy. And we are the cause. Deniers will always have a vested interest in reinforcing mythologies that support their interests.

^^ This. As in audio, its almost impossible to be truly objective.

I agree with your conclusion- that sort of thing happens in science. But how did you arrive at the first statement here? Do you know of someone to whom this happened? I would not use that site you linked earlier as its really not an accurate source.
Lets end the portion of this discussion of politics on a good note and get back to Class A.  According to military intel, the us military along with four other countries are involved in one of the biggest operations this planet has ever seen in that mass arrests have been underway and their assets have been confiscated (trillions of dollars). Military tribunals have been going on at Gitmo involving actors, CEO, and treasonous politicians. You know that Bill Gates's wife is filing for divorce and she helped the Us Military capture her husband at their ranch. He always alluded the us military. While being held in a military jail Bill Gates offered the guards millions of dollars if they would help him escape. Interestingly he no longer has these resources because they have been confiscated. Keep in mind the good guys control the Space Force 100% and one of their weapons is called the Rod of God and it has the same power as a nuclear weapon but with out the radiation.

The people of the world are going to get free energy, the release of 6000 cures for diseases which include cancer. All debt including mortgages are going to be eliminated because they were done illegally. The IRS has been rolled in to the treasury and Social Security will be paid in one lump sum every year but with a big bonus.
Does anyone remember the Aleph 30. What a great Class A amp, rated 30 watts per channel, still own that one!

While Bill Gates is responsible for wasting billions of man-hours fixing Windows, there are a lot more evil profiteers than him that need taking out. Anyone remember the Music Fidelity A1?
The A1 was a very poor design of heat sink, more like a muddy shoe wiper grid.
It bent badly on hot days, finned heatsinks need to be vertical not flat.

Look at the heat buckle starting in this one, lifting at both ends

Cheers George
noromance, Bill Gates has been a very naughty boy and it isn't because he is trying to look like and act like Mr. Rodgers of Microsoft.
My Futtermans do double duty in the winter: they keep my listening room - in the attic - nice and warm. I never have to turn up the heat.

As for climate change, I thought politics was verboten here. I'm as left as they come on this issue and others, but ...
I accept that audio-related forums can be contentious at times, but the personal innuendo in the original post regarding the public figure is perhaps the most ugly thing that I recall coming across here.
I would think that pointing out one person’s post is rather an ugly action in itself, the original post was just pointing out some of our hifi is numbered in its days. I’m going to guess your snowflakes are melting.
This thread posed a good question, but it degenerated into one of the all-time worst.
What audiogon needs is a “block posts from this member” option.
Class A has about one to three years before a truly state of the art class D amp is here......after that.....all class a amps will be boat anchors.

Enjoy every moment......you deserve it.  You are beautiful.

Just this very mourning I bought a pristine Sugden "MusicMaster"pure Class A amplifier(15/24 wpc.) from a Bijou system..Don't give a rats behind what "takes over",I got mine & you will have to fight your way into my castle, get past a hail of 9mm & 12 gauge & terminate my assault along with my life to take it away!
ricevs, that is a possibility but even if they come up with such a state of  the art Class D amp there will always be people who will hold out with their Class A amps because they will sound better in a different way to their ears and will swear by it.

I choose 'what sounds the best at the time', not 'what sounds the best within emission ratings'. GIven this, it is full class A all the way come hell or high water.
I have several all class A Krell units and yes, I run them all at once. When I felt bad about the environment, I filled my roof with solar panels. The illusion as i found out, was that the panels are mostly not even recyclable.
Interesting thread.  That being said, I am currently in the market and researcing Pure Class A Tube amps.  So, not dead yet.
Anyone interested in discarding theirs to save the environment, I will gladly send you my shipping address.  :)
I am in possession of the new LSA Voyager GaN amp. Minor tweaks include removing the top cover (the chassis is prone to vibration) and using Nobsound like spring footers which helped tremendously with speed and clarity vs the OEM soft rubber which IMHO prevents the amp from showing its true colors (NPI). It crushed my 2 year old EVS 1200, which I raved about. Seems the switching speed is a BIG DEAL, kinda like getting a much better dac could do

I recall someone saying it blew away his Clayton class A amps with the additional benefit of not heating up his room
hth
I don't see any issues on class A components.

There is no issue with 50A breakers in almost every home for a range, dryer, HVAC, or 20-30A for a water heater.

Add in the fact they are pushing EV with 50A receptacles, I seriously doubt maybe 1 in what....100 or 1000 homes with class A components.....not a chance IMO.

Class A like rock n roll will never die! My Esoteric A-03 is competitive with all but the most extreme level amps. Will eventually run them in a mono/block set up.
I have A, AB Tubes Solid State, D, A-D and I love them all.
Prefer my Audio Hungary X200 though I do enjoy my Bel Canto REF600M's in the game room.

Reviving this question as I have thought about this over the last week.... and then....

I was thinking of selling my my Karan Acoustics KA M900 Mono blocks....pure class A to 900 wpc (1500 4 ohms) and going to one of the Aavik class D amps. Then Aavik comes out with their flagship integrated, the I880...200wpc pre class A...if Aavik is making their TOTL amp class A, it must be for good reason so I'll keep my monoblocks!

@Grannyring…agreed 100%

“Can we stop it with these extreme political statements on this site. Come on guys. This is not the place to keep acting out your hostile political fears and insecurities. This site is for audio. I try to come here to escape this sort of behavior. You are ruining this site with this predictable and angry behavior. This is not the place! Time to just leave this stuff inside of your own head. Stop polluting this site. Will you please?!

Moderators, it’s well past time to start removing any and all political references. Period. The consequence of not doing so is continuing to see the site’s most experienced and helpful posters walk away from here slowly, but definitely. You know, the kind of posters who are kind, helpful and courteous.

The blame also rests on AudioGon as it is your responsibility to keep this site an enjoyable place to come. AudioGon, you must realize past and current, best in class posters, are visiting here less and moving onto better managed forums. They just plain are. They post less and use your listing venue less.

I am dismayed that I even have to post this. It used to be common sense and part of being a well socialized adult to behave kindly and courteously”

I think Class A audio is likely way down the list. OTOH, they could make sweeping legislation about stereo in general but they are going after gas users first like kitchen stoves and hot water heaters and of course cars.

Political agendas are cyclic and this too shall pass, we just don’t know where it will settle out. It depends on how long the Democrat party stays in power and whether it continues to be ruled by the green agenda. Not likely that both will contine just based on how politcs works and based on my observation of political history. But even with 4 more years of green focus by the same administration, I doubt they will get to hifi with their regulations.

Of course if we get a Republican president or the Democrat party swtiches it’s focus to other issues, then the "heat" will be offfor a while.

But I could be wrong.

Jerry

PS at my very large and very liberal company we are making a lot of proactive and low/no cost initiatives to build new construction to be tolerant of global warming, or lack of global warming, whichever we get. This is the way it shold be addressed, let private industry make cost effective solutions rather than large government mandates.

PPS  those of you who are offended by the reference to GT, ask yourself how offended you would be if the reference was to one or those you hate in the other party.  Lets not be a diode.

The point is this. Political topics and opinions are not allowed on an audio forum, and for good reason. There are other forums for this. It’s not rocket science
….I think the people who continue to talk about politics are too stupid to understand what damage it does to the audiogon community or don’t care because they think their own opinion is important and want to hear themselves talk.

The point is this. Political topics and opinions are not allowed on an audio forum, and for good reason. There are other forums for this. It’s not rocket science

Exactly.  Try out audio asylum as an example of one of those forums.

What a dumpster fire this thread is luckily things on this site have gotten better since 2021.

Wow.  You just knew the dybbuks would emerge and seize the narrative.  So a majority is always right.  Rarely.  William Lendrum Mitchell, Brigadier General tried convincing the navy that projected air power would be considerable in the future.  The majority courtmartialed him for speaking lies.  Died in 1938.  And then there was Pearl Harbor.  Guess the majority lost that one.

I'll go with a well informed minority over a stupid ill-informed majority.  And....I like Class A, own it and love it.  I'll pay the carbon tax.

Someone once stated "if everyone is in agreement, nobody is thinking".

There is no climate emergency.  It's another attempt at a massive power grab like the covid lockdowns.

I'm keeping my Class A amplification and Greta can go ____ herself.

The sweetness of class A will need to be pryed away from my cold dead hands.

However, I've had solar panels for a while now and my Tesla gets charged by the sun! (to put Greta Thunberg's mind at ease).
