Bookshelf Speakers for Luxman 590axii?
@immatthewj I get it. I was looking for a smaller tube amp and I found that SETs that could make 5 Watts aren't small. The amp I'm using can sit on a sheet of notebook paper with room left over. When you compare PP amps that make the same power as...
I hate to say it, but now I think maybe I like my amp in ultralinear mode versus triode
but in the manual for the V12, Dennis Had is saying that tubes that can be roled in this amp include;  6L6, KT88, 6550, KT90, KT66, "even 6V6." Again, with not intent of being argumentative, does this sound incorrect?  @immatthewj Not exactly....

@gs5556 Your explanation is partially correct. The bit about 'partial triode' is not. What UL allows is for a pentode to have better linearity than a triode. However there's been a wrinkle caused by the fact that the UL technology was the topic o...
Tour of the inside Sound Lab ESL electrostatic speaker.
Looks like a garage operation. @hiendmmoe Doesn't look like it to me. Looks like a finished room with a higher ceiling, helpful when working on Sound Labs.
Bookshelf Speakers for Luxman 590axii?
I was recently reading a "bookshelf speaker with lower power tube amp thread" (20 wpc I think I remember) on this forum, and the subject of Fritz Carbon 6 or 7s with 4 or 5 wpc SET amp driving them quite well. I remember @atmasphere was the one ...
300B Tube Amps with 15/16 Watts Per Channel?
I will also say that I prefer amps with zero feedback, but @atmasphere and I will diverge there, and that is just fine.  @donsachs I wasn't a fan of feedback for a long time. Here are two things for you to consider: the first being that in most...

@immatthewj If the UL taps are set up properly, the amp should have less distortion in UL mode. FWIW, this was well understood in the 1950s when UL was first patented. Distortion obscures detail; so if the output transformers are properly designed...
Power Amplifier - Maximum Resolution & Detail!
@mapman  Because GANFETs have no leads on them and are quite small, they allow for reduced noise from the amplifier module. This is really important; its not good enough IME/IMO to just be able to meet European Union radiation directives (require...
Pass XP-17 and Hana ML loading question
@ssg308 I have teh ML in a Technics SL1200G arm at the moment and it works fine. Plug and play with my preamp; no need to mess with loading. One of my employees has the ML in a Triplanar and it works fine in that too.
Pass XP-17 and Hana ML loading question
Ok I find it weird at list, I will work with that again, how I have more reasons than ever since I got the Unami Red and I will be comparing it with the ML on the same preamp. Let me know what you think about the ML sound at the 47K load, it sea...
300B Tube Amps with 15/16 Watts Per Channel?
I was asking him what 300B amp (preferably mono) he would recommend. He came up with this and said it is easy to mod it to make it sound even better. @yyzsantabarbara A nice move that most tube designers agree on is bypassing the cathode resist...
Seeking speakers under $3K for 10x12 ft room and driven by 20wpc tube amp
In one or more of those discussions I had kind of got the impression that you favored speakers that had a sensitivity up in the 90s.  Which makes me assume that the Fritz speakers, although have a listed sensitivity of 88, must not drop too far b...
Seeking speakers under $3K for 10x12 ft room and driven by 20wpc tube amp
@immatthewj Yes. The amp I'm using makes 5 Watts at full power. It has no problems driving the speaker at all. I use the 8 Ohm taps.

which Fritz speakers do you have? @immatthewj I have the Carbon 6s.
Seeking speakers under $3K for 10x12 ft room and driven by 20wpc tube amp
@ristretto , I use a set of the Fritz loudspeakers (previously suggested) in a space of very similar dimensions, using a 5 Watt/channel tube amp and a powered subwoofer. No worries making plenty of volume and I never clip the amp.
