McIntosh MA8950 Upgrade to MA12000? FWIW I have heard the MA 12000 multiple times(4 or 5) with different Sonus Faber speakers and the results were outstanding. Whether or not the synergy(Wilson) would equal SF is unknown to me. The idea of the 462 amp is another option but I would m...
Bryston or Yamaha? @helomech Thx for taking time to reply. Not outing you but name the preamps in question and the details of the set up when making such a demonstrative statement. Yamaha is a very solid brand that adds very little coloration which sets up a buil...
Bryston or Yamaha? The preamp section of even a decent integrated amp is usually the weak link due to parts quality, component space and heat issues. To many unknow variables to verify your claims.
Whats on your turntable tonight? @mofimadness +1 Alannah Myles! Despite "Black Velvet" being the standout song on the album the rest of the tracks make for a 5* recording. FWIW another great recording from 1989!
"audiophiles listen to their equipment" @hilde45 +1 Too many "Drama Queens".

Whats playing on your system today? Joe Nichols-III(CD 2005) Bill Evans/Eddie Gomez-Intuition(1975 OJCCD-470-2 1990) Pierre Bensusan-Altiplanos(CD 2005) If a Michael Hedges fan Pierre Bensusan might perk an interest. Sunday night vinyl follows with a 1960's theme.
Seeking a Tube preamplifier @audioguy85 -1 The Music Hall 25.2 might be fine for a low resolving system but not for a system featuring ML 11A speakers. My educated guess is with his current partnering components the Music Hall would scream “Weak Link” !
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too? If there is any validity to the many silly responses, it appalls me how narrow the bandwidth of so-called music lovers.
How to choose speakers that won't overpower your room? @zlone Dealers/sellers always push stand mounts and sub(s) for smaller rooms. Why? They have you set up for an upgrade path and they have already sold speaker stands and subwoofer(s) that are not needed for the room. The question is how serious ...
Seeking a Tube preamplifier Stereophile class ratings hold little to no value. A Schitt Freya + would add to the noise floor and would lack synergy over the current Bryston BP 19. ARC/VTL and VAC is where I would start if trying too synergistically match a vacuum tube preamp...
Phasemation MC @inca21 I'm always hesitant to judge/comment on a single component due to a system needs to be judged as a sum of parts(components)not an individual component. Back to the Phasemation PP 200, it is an engaging cartridge due to a slightly forward...
Phasemation MC I own a PP200 on a Rega P9/RB1000 with an Allnic H-1200 phono preamp using Nordost Heimdall 2 interconnects. Previously had a Goldring Legacy on the same set up. Clarity with a larger and more open(airy) forward soundstage were the most obvious im... |
