How long does Class A have?

Hi Guys/Gals
I have a Sugden A21SE which is a Pure Class A single ended design, I absolutely love this musical amplifier with its strangely plentiful 30wpc, it runs hots as they do, I always enjoy watching the faces of my uninitiated friends when they touch it after I mention they get hot, lol.
But in this modern green era I wonder just how long do Class A amplifiers have before Greta Thunberg gets wind of this inefficient method of creating sound and pisses on the parade?

Thoughts?
mrmeaner
I'm thinking I may have to add two more pass XA's to my rig, ya know just for the tweeters :)  Long live class A. Nothing like 'em.

Well if you did it in my house be assured you would get the boot.  Cheers!
Facebook and Twitter are NOT media companies like newspapers. They’ve successfully fought off being legally recognized as such or they’d be held accountable for the tons of lies they allow to pollute our society.

I think a lot of audiophiles who’ve been so aggrieved by this thread can be summed up as this:

Be proud about it. Own it. You’ve earned it.

All the best,

" Your “Comrade” references are out of line. Bet you wouldn’t do it in person."

Bet you I would comrade.
"There is no provision that requires private companies to do the same. Facebook and Twitter can make arbitrary, irrational, discriminatory, capricious and random decisions about the content they allow. It’s under the auspices of private property rights."

The person with lack of understanding is you.

Neither Facebook or Twitter are private companies.

This has no relation to private property rights in any way shape or form.

Facebook and Twitter are both media companies like newspapers are. Media companies can not "make arbitrary, irrational, discriminatory, capricious and random decisions about the content they allow". By law they can choose what they publish but then be liable to be sued for what they publish or refuse to.

Facebook and Twitter were given special rights protecting them from liability of what they publish to get them off the ground. Given their success, they should no longer special protections not afforded to other media companies.

Your “Comrade” references are out of line. Bet you wouldn’t do it in person.
Some people clearly do not understand the American form of government and its partnership with capitalist driven businesses.  The U.S. Constitution says that government cannot abridge your right to speak freely.  There is no provision that requires private companies to do the same.  Facebook and Twitter can make arbitrary, irrational, discriminatory, capricious and random decisions about the content they allow.  It's under the auspices of private property rights.
" Well then how did you manage to just speak freely?"

I suspect that has something to do with this being audiogon and not facebook or twitter.

Businesses have the right to protect themselves and keep their houses in order. People don’t not have the right to wreck havoc in other peoples houses or places of business.

FLMAO - expressing a dissenting opinion is " to wreck havoc in other peoples houses "? Parler was wrecking havoc on AWS? LOL - you sir, are a comedian of great caliber.

But I am proud of you comrade. When depriving others their rights, one must always convince oneself you are not.

Well then how did you manage to just speak freely?

Businesses have the right to protect themselves and keep their houses in order. People don’t not have the right to wreck havoc in other peoples houses or places of business. It’s not hard to understand. Having rights does not mean anything goes anywhere anytime. Audiogon mods have the right to delete anything they please in their forum as well. It’s their right. We all have narcissistic tendencies to some degree.  Civil rights protect people from other people when needed. No it’s never perfect but that is how the system works.
"Nobody is going to be able to deny your rights nor the rights of others."

Now THAT is hilarious comrade.

Zuckerberg and Dorsey have all but a monopoly of social media - any opinions other than that which they support is censored. When anybody tries to create an alternative social media platform, the whole media platform is de-platformed - case in point Bezos de platforming Parler.

Allowing people a milk crate to stand on while denying them social media access isn’t freedom of speech, no matter how many times you repeat it to yourself. Political censorship is alive an well in the US and Europe. And it controlled by half a dozen unelected billionaires.

Free speech only for those who toe the party line comrade ...

Nobody is going to be able to deny your rights nor the rights of others. If they try then take them to task please. That’s the country we live in. That includes the right to be wrong.
"  Narcissism enabled  is the next big epidemic we will find ourselves having to address on a large scale."

Yes comrade. We should deny people who disagree with us their first amendment rights so that the only opinion that is heard is ours.

" while the ice cap melts away at an alarming rate."

What, they’re still here? Weren't they supposed to have melted away in 2013 already?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The young girl is merely an advocate for her generation. Good thing they have those based on some of the things read here. Narcissism enabled  is the next big epidemic we will find ourselves having to address on a large scale.
As my amps run on 230v I guess they draw 1/2 the current and 1/2 the power?

The current is halved, but the voltage is doubled since :

Power = Current x Voltage

and it is a wash.  You'll get a lower voltage drop though, since

V = Current x R

therefore the voltage at your outlet will sag less for the same power.
Am I the only one to see a kind of cruel irony in @arcticdeth 's screen name?  "Arctic death" is in full denial while the ice cap melts away at an alarming rate.
Imagine being so narrow minded that you are incapable of looking past myopic preconceived regressive attitudes about a messenger that you can’t hear the message

Yes yes, the new message is the world will end in 12 years.

Yeah, only those suffering from “myopic preconceived regressive attitudes” people won’t believe that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Better run out and go buy that bunker big guy. 😂🤣

Ps. I believe bunkers are going real cheap in Kabul.
Imagine being so narrow minded that you are incapable of looking past myopic preconceived regressive attitudes about a messenger that you can’t hear the message.

But I’m sure you all have your PhD’s in climatology, which is why your opinion is more valid than their knowledge…
Imagine being so under-educated that you adopt the views of a 14 y/o child. 😜🤪
 WOW! I'm shocked!
This forum has lost sight of what's really important!
The MUSIC! and how it's presented.
Oh what's happened to humanity?
Must be all the pollutants!
Imagine being so insecure that you can't fathom an 18 year old woman having something valid to say.
Hahahaha

ok perkri.
You have told everyone your beliefs in your last message.
       Have a great week.

@arcticdeth +1

People who take that 14 y/o dingbat seriously aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed.

Just turn up your AC as high as it can go so your amp doesn’t heat up the planet. 😂🤣
Well my Mom said I have to be home by 7:00 pm because I got school tomorrow so I will see you guys later.
I’m a proud brit
@mrmeaner Thanks for your clarification on Greta T.
I sense you were exercising that Olde World wit in your post rather than how it came across.
Seems there is no hope for us here. Censorship has nothing to do with this. The stated rules are not being followed or enforced. I blame Agon.

I won’t join in and like many will slowly stop visiting this forum. Sadly this is no longer a place to consistently enjoy. It has become a place to oftentimes endure.

At least one can still buy and sell here with relative ease. I certainly do and still like this about Agon.
Personally I am anti censorship. Audiogon has rules and you just have to follow the rules. If you break them continuously it is reasonable to expect that eventually there will be a penalty.
Also it’s not valid to assume that everyone is capable of behaving within certain social norms. There may be valid medical reasons why someone acts the way they do. In the end though the rules are the rules and those should be enforced in order to maintain a healthy environment that all can enjoy to the benefit of all including the host.  It’s part of the job to some extent I suppose  but the host should not have to continuously babysit the users to keep their place of business welcoming to all.
I’m a proud brit, before any assumptions draw in. I actually do think Greta actually does have an important message, and it’s encouraging our future generations are more aware of the impact of V8’s, V12’s, lead fuels, palm oil deforestation, plastic neglectfulness etc, and I also think even class a amplifiers are within my lifetime at least doomed.
But apart from all that gloom you peeps are quality peeps.
@grannyring i might respect that input IF you applied it to the near daily screed from Miller Carbon…
No wonder the US is in the state it’s in.

The world extends beyond your ZIP code.

The truth is out there

... my question was not meant to be “inflammatory” my question was a genuine comment about inefficient amps and power hungry devices in our changing world, no one forced to read it or insulted by my OP, just a genuine question.
Nonsense. You made this discussion both political and personal right from the beginning. You wanted a political thread and you got one.
... in this modern green era I wonder just how long do Class A amplifiers have before Greta Thunberg gets wind of this inefficient method of creating sound and pisses on the parade?
Noromance, my question was not meant to be “inflammatory” my question was a genuine comment about inefficient amps and power hungry devices in our changing world, no one forced to read it or insulted by my OP, just a genuine question.
+1 @grannyring
It's the world we live in. The OP was incendiary from the get-go. There is a "Report this" flag function.
Can we stop it with these extreme political statements on this site. Come on guys. This is not the place to keep acting out your hostile political fears and insecurities. This site is for audio. I try to come here to escape this sort of behavior. You are ruining this site with this predictable and angry behavior. This is not the place! Time to just leave this stuff inside of your own head. Stop polluting this site. Will you please?!

Moderators, it’s well past time to start removing any and all political references. Period. The consequence of not doing so is continuing to see the site’s most experienced and helpful posters walk away from here slowly, but definitely. You know, the kind of posters who are kind, helpful and courteous.

The blame also rests on AudioGon as it is your responsibility to keep this site an enjoyable place to come. AudioGon, you must realize past and current, best in class posters, are visiting here less and moving onto better managed forums. They just plain are. They post less and use your listing venue less.

I am dismayed that I even have to post this. It used to be common sense and part of being a well socialized adult to behave kindly and courteously.
@arcticdeath.
Congratulations, you have confirmed both your ignorance and frail ego.

I wonder, have you ever left your own zip code?

it’s a big world out there sparky, and being an effective contrarian requires intelligence, experience and an education - one that extends beyond what TV and Google can provide.

Purple was never my thing. My 14 year old daughter however, loves that color. And both she, and my 8 year old son, are far better contrarians than you are capable of being. Intelligence, experience and education…
@arcticdeth She’s 18. She is addressing what a majority of the world's scientists have agreed on. Even the polluting corporations acknowledge there is an issue that will cost us money and quality of life. Of course the media lies. The rightwing spin machine has been fooling Americans for decades into believing what their wealthy puppet masters want the lower ranks to think by waving flags and allowing them to have guns instead of healthcare and college.
I don't expect everyone to agree with my opinions.  I think that when there are people that not only expect people to agree with their opinions, but demand it,we have a HUGE problem.
Hahaha
empowering. A young girl?

she is an idiot. Have you read about what she is preaching?

Some 14 year old who has zero clue of life, is telling you what to think, and you will succumb to her every word, and don’t forget, the media does not lie to us.

If it was a guy, would say same thing. Go color your hair purple and complain about men.

 Wow.
🍺🍺
Hahahaha,
I will take that bet. She is a whiny spoiled speck, who preaches about stuff she knows nothing about. Let some 14 year old non American tell you what to think?

This is the American problem !

Think for yourself, not the media telling you what to think and do,,,,

wow.
perkri, you are correct about the climate/weather changes but the causes are not what you think. There are two agendas that are the cause. 1. weaponized weather, controlled by Harp. 2. Chemtrails sprayed by aircraft that contain fine particles of aluminum among other ingredients and this has been going on for decades on a massive scale. By the time the population discovers the truth we will be well on the brink of a complete biosphere collapse.  President Johnson made a speech in the 60's and stated: "Those that can control the weather will control the world". Now they are stating we are having a water shortage, bull, the earth is covered by three quarters water not to mention massive amounts of water underground. Water water everywhere but not a drop to drink.
Ur gonna let some liberal 14 year old who is as dumd as a sack of hammers
I had my tubes amps running all day. Warmed the place up. I bet she is smarter than you.
I wonder if they couldn't add refrigerant to the heat sinks of a Class A amp to cool them. Don't laugh because I had a Marantz that used coolant in tubes that wound themselves around and through the heatsinks, no it did have a compressor.
