Let me explain. I have extremely high and very vague standards. I look down on everything, and I mean everything, never talking about specifics or my own point of reference. I’ve looked down not just on people and equipment but science and facts as well. They are far far beneath me. It is all too much for me to explain, but I am sure you are all doing it wrong. WRONG, with a bold, underlined and hooker-script WRONG font used here.
I start these crazy troll posts which are incredibly successful in nabbing a lot of the regulars in audiogon.
I should be very happy with myself, but sometimes I have to wonder if my level of jerk is too much for all of you too handle. I’m trying to blaze a path, but are you with me audiofools or not???
There are 330 Million people living in that country south of the border. And from that vast pool, those are the only two options available to its citizens? That is truly a sad state of affairs.
nonoise +1 for straightening that out about *iden's comments being taken completely out of context. isochronism...You should have included in your post that you realized the candidate didn't mean it that way. That's not the way your post came across.
It seems some members believe the OP is talking about another member, and others who are taking him literally and speaking for himself.
@erik I am still staggered by the raw insecurities masquerading as
arrogance revealed on the Tekton Moab thread which you exploited for
entertainment purposes. The sheer entertainment value of that thread
puts HBO to shame. I just wish there were more such opportunities for
you to exploit.
You are too kind, and completely coincidentally your pardons have been approved.

Hey, wait a minute! ".. even for Audiogon"?Now that would seem to imply that we are all some level of a jerk here, and that you may be just a bigger one. Well ... ok.
nonoise, Yes, I realized he didn't mean it the way some would take it (or twist it) that's just Joe. You must admit, both candidates give interesting speeches unlike anyone before them. This world is getting extra-interesting!!
I am humbled that you would bestow upon us mere peasants the grace of your wisdom erik. For one to be willing to communicate with those of us scrounging in the dark depths of the audiophile quagmire where all special knowledge is devoid is simply an act of greatness. All hail the wisdom of the erik. Let us accept him as our source of great knowledge and deliverance from our wretchedness. All hail erik, all hail erik!
Flattest frequency response in a phone booth achieved at lowest cost With Craigslist sourced swarm subwoofer system.... I am off to a great start, who knew JC Penny made a MCS 15” sub ? The pair came with free tweeters!
stereo5, Now I'm not going either way here either, and don't want this to go into political match. Actually, recently dem Presidential candidate is on video referring to soldiers as "stupid b*$tards". True
You are big on DYI audio and you seem to expect everyone to embrace it. You fail to realize that there a lot of us older guys who aren’t into that, can’t solder well (me) and would probably screw up a good piece of equipment by modding, etc.
I will always be a fan of DIY. I’m no more pushing it than others push tubes or horn speakers. Don’t like it, fine, but don’t be mad at me if I suggest it for a particular use case or if it comes up regularly from me. It’s not like it costs you money to ignore my suggestions. Often enough, if I suggest a DIY project in a thread 1 of 10 will think it’s a cool idea and try it.
I do not expect everyone to embrace DIY nor do I look down on those who do not. However, I think our hobby was built by modders and that the more people in the environment with first hand knowledge the better our hobby is. Otherwise we are too apt to accept snake oil salesmen and pitch men’s word for things.
I am not so much pro DIY as anti consumerism as the measure of an audiophile. Maybe I should be asking everyone else, why are you always pushing more shopping? Why is a more expensive component or speaker necessarily better for me?
Case in point, I hate all Class D amplifiers and nothing will ever change my mind. Every time you posted about Class D and I disagreed, you went off on me in a bad way,
The usual slurry of anti-Class D diatribe I read comes from those completely unwilling to discuss their particular and specific circumstances. Statements like "I hate all class D" makes me wonder how it’s possible.
I’ve always encouraged those I disagree with to be specific. What system, what did they listen to and what are they comparing to. It’s impossible to disagree with experiences, but broad brush strokes against a technology are equally impossible to assess.
Case in point, I hate all Class D amplifiers and nothing will ever change my mind. Every time you posted about Class D and I disagreed, you went off on me in a bad way, even suggesting I never listened to the amp you were talking about when in fact I had. You are big on DYI audio and you seem to expect everyone to embrace it.
and I have mentioned this before in that not everyone is into the DIY thing....and you keep pushing and pushing it.
you remind me of the person at work that thinks they know everything and no matter how you tell them to just go with the flow of things, the person still doesnt get it and nobody wants to work with that person.
Erik, I really think you are a very knowledgeable and a decent human being. What I find with you and myself included is that you get really testy when someone doesn’t appreciate your point of view. In all honesty, I admire the person who can do that and pull it off, I am just not one of them. I have been teaching myself to not answer any posts that I know will go south fast and lead to bickering. You certainly do not irritate and infuriate me like millercarbon who thinks he is the end all of audiophiles and that he knows best about everything. He always seem to insinuate a political right wing agenda and never gets his posts removed yet I try to rebut him and I get my posts removed and still to this day do not know why.
Your post was very thought provoking and I hope you will stay. Your vast knowledge of circuits and such is a treasure trove and needed here, I say this to George as well. This has been a terrible year for all of us and it is natural to get under one another’s skin, we all just need to be more understanding.
Transparently referring to someone else. And a thread very close to this one (at least it was close when I read them both), was started by the individual in question.
Post removed. I apologize to veterans and to friends and families of veterans. Yes, it must be a sign of the times that what appeared to be an indirect reference to the Jerk was really a self-directed satire on sometimes acting like a jerk sets me off like a dog whistle.
@erik_squires I know exactly what you're saying, and I would say that the best approach to those you describe is the one taken by Professor Charles Kingsfield in the film, The Paper Chase. In short: ignore, ignore, ignore.
