This implies prolonged periods of contentment and mental stability.  I don't have breakdowns, I was broken years ago and my pre-existing conditions made it too expensive to fix.

It may be the passing of member almarg, but this is the second (at least) "mea culpa" posting I have read this week. Erik, you're right, there are a lot of jerks on this forum, but I have never counted you among them. Believe me, I'd be happy to tell you if I thought you were.

Erik, in my experience you are nothing like a jerk.  Your posts are reasonable and helpful.  I look forward to reading what you have say.

I suspect everyone that haunts this space enjoys music to whatever degree that consists of.  For some, just the 'event' of it, and the ability to do so in their own fashion and means.
Others may relish what I consider the 'esoteric'; the 'hunt' to be able to grasp the discrete nuance of their equipment to recreate a performance to the nth degree....
If being able to hear the 1st violinist breathe as well as play with 'brio', well....great.

I seriously doubt the OP enjoys music, unless he considers the sound of his voice as such. Perhaps he needs to be locked in an elevator alone listening to Lou Reed’s Metal Machine music for eternity.

I value the OP because he starts interesting threads, and unlike some he can answer what others might perceive as a Dumb Question with succinct and non judgmental answers.
  It seems as though he might be having a crisis of confidence.  His subsequent posts In this thread quote only his detractors, not people who are supportive.  On lively threads if you stick your neck out there will be some return fire.  The OP seems bothered that there are times when he gets sparked up in a discussion that he makes some posts that he subsequently, upon reflection, wishes he hadn’t.
At least he recognizes this, and I remember several times when he later takes something back, and that’s cool.  The worst thing imo is when people refuse to admit error and double down on their original mistake.

I notice the real jerks have not posted to this thread.
Possibly because they cannot sell anything.

If I'm not mistaken, only one side, just one, one and one only, has top people saying cast for the other side. This is not an accident, faulty reporting, covert action or 4 anonymous sources. What it is is highly unusual and very telling.
