The Cable Company has Wireworld Series 7 discontinued cables at 50% off right now. Some USB's, AES/EBU, SPDIF and Eclipse series interconnects and speaker cables!
Sales or clearances happening now
I noticed a HUGE sale at Cary Audio right now. My guess is that they want to keep cash flowing and that they were also going to offer some discounts at the (now cancelled) trade shows, so they budgeted for this, partly.
Has anyone else seen any major sales on gear in the last couple weeks?
[Caveat: I know there are many more important things happening, and that our country is in a crisis. I assume anyone reading this is doing so because they are not one of the people trying to save lives, and that they see reading or talking about audio as a way to stay sane. If this post devolves into something political, etc. I will unfollow End of caveat.]

+2 on the Fritz. First time I heard them I talked to a pair of musicians from Blue Coast records, they agreed his speakers were the best of the show. I like the ring radiator models more than I like the Be. Still, great speakers, great value, and no one else is going to customize the speakers like Fritz will. |
Congrats on the Salks! Salk has been on my radar lately, just don’t have the funds. The Wow1’s are the ones I’m interested in. His woodwork looks really, really nice and I like the components used in his builds. Fritz is another boutique brand that is really interesting me lately as well. He seems like a really great guy and very knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge openly. I’ll be spending quite a bit of time with a pair of his speakers in the near future due to our current situation and will be sharing my impressions! |
Sold all my Cardas Clear for these. Less expensive and just more musical https://www.audioasylumtrader.com/ca/listing/Interconnects/Audiomica-Labs/-Demo-cable-sale/see-list/... YMMV |
I check craigslist every day and sometimes find good deals there. The number of ads has dropped by about half. I don't think I'd risk going to buy something even if I did see an amazing deal, probably the only way I'd buy something is if we could work out shipping somehow. Our stay at home order has been extended into May. |
Yes, age 65 and I am working 24/7. It is bad in the hospital setting. Music is a great relief! I worry about the high-end audio marketplace - it seemed precarious to begin with, and prices may fall over the next 6-8 weeks. This is a great hobby (passion), and I do not want to see the attrition of the small dealers...listening to Julia Fischer now...violinist. |
@falconquest At first I ordered the WOW1's because I thought I'd do nearfield listening. Then, I decided to move my audio to a bigger room (not that big, 450 sq ft) and changed to the SS6M's. You should know that if you order them, they could take a long time. I surfed the audio circles and people talk of 3-4 and 6-7 month delivery times. And that's in non-virus circumstances. I'll be patient, but you might ask him what to expect. I've decided not to pester about these kinds of things because it just doesn't feel right, right now. [Tsunami rises in background] |
@falconquest I'd be curious what you find or consider for a second pair. I am waiting on some Salk speakers that are going to take a long time to get to me, so I just jumped on a price dip for some Klipsch RP-600M speakers. But, there are some sweet deals with the independent maker Ascend Acoustics which intrigue me, and I'm hoping to try some of Fritz Heiler's speakers, too. |
I'm a bit of a news junky but during this time I have avoided getting mired in the details. I would rather accept the situation and spend time with family, doing projects around the home and reading/learning about audio stuff. I have been thinking about a second pair of speakers. I haven't quite reached the point of making the decision but boy, I'm thinking about it. Keep in mind that what drives the economy is the churn of dollars in the market. Anything you purchase will help someone. It's interesting, I stopped into a deli/market the other day where I know the owner. He said business has never been better. Since folks aren't going out to eat his business is booming. |
My post was more to encourage a projection of how ones finances might be in the not too distant future, as a result of the measures to be imposed on how a individual will be restricted in their daily activities. These restrictions will for many mean a regular income will be affected, and their economic situation will be undergoing unforeseen changes, which will impact on how much disposable monies might be available, as well as enforce a change in the priorities for the monies that are available. HiFi Purchases are luxuries, and those luxuries when costing the value of months outgoings for a home, will not be useful to a family needing to live with additional frugality down the line because of the expense of the purchases being made months prior. The point being made, is not to bury ones head in the sand, the COVID 19 Virus, is requiring extreme control measures, that will create changes to peoples liberties overnight, and these changes for many will have a massive impact on the economic situation. If one chooses to be a consumer during this period, then I am not in objection in any way. I am undergoing a enforced lock down at present, and am making a few purchases that support my passion for my experience with HiFi. One of those has been a few Vinyl Albums. I have used forums to see Album Recommendations, I have made a shortlist and used Youtube to review some of the content on the shortlist, and produced the final list of purchases. Interestingly the list has compiled of a couple of Olden Days Released, and now 180g Reissued Albums, and a couple of Albums that are no more than two years released. I also bought in a Quad Matched set of 5881 Valves for a Power Amp that has sat idling for too many years. To support the industry, I did have to analyse the markets, searching for discounts to make these purchases, or have I been a waiting in the wings 'tyre kicking customer', looking to make a insulting offer when a vendors weakness is smelt. One vendor got really Irate with me when the testing they agreed to, on their untested set of Valves, was postponed by the tester I had arranged, due to the tester not wanting to get involved during the enforced Lock Down. Obviously, the vendors requirement to receive the monies, was much more important than encouraging the individual who was to carry out the tests to keep safe and well, during these difficult times. Keep Safe, Keep Well and Keep it Real |
It’s not irrelevant to talk about passions. People make love even during wars, and better than ever, I heard. My listening routine hasn’t changed much yet. As for upgrading, I upgraded last year so no need really. Sure, there is Gryphon Diablo 120 integrated here but it is too much for me at the moment and I won’t settle for less. And, yeah, I am not in the mood for upgrades, anyway. WyWires, as all excellent cables, are overpriced, so 40% off sounds about right. I have his Platinum RCAs and like them a lot. Harmonically correct and sophisticated. Silver is good too but can’t compete, I have it as well but don’t use. |
@pindac, Thank you for reminding me that purchasing vinyl/albums are just as important and supporting to the audiophile selling community at large. There are many turntables to be purchased in these times to as they are for some their HiFI hardware of choice. And without albums/records....Those turntables would have nothing to play. One of my favorite places to purchase vinyl is through Discogs....Where you can find stuff new and used you didn’t even know existed, let alone find that long sought after record of memory. And you can find some good tunes for not much coin. I hope this tip helps. |
Well, I decided to do my bit to save the economy and ordered the PS Stellar Power Plant. To trim the outlay I’ll trade in the V-90 DAC. Just seems like a good deal and a good time to spend the money since we’re all supposed to get a $1,200 check soon. But now I’m going to have to buy some good power cables since I’ve never been convinced they were worth it unless a power conditioner was also involved. |
@pindac Wonderful post. Very grounding. Thank you. Given the national headlines about this virus, I have to confess it feels insane to be talking about this stuff. It is so irrelevant and so fantastical. If I thought that talking about the virus or places to donate money here would make a difference here, I'd do that. But my sense is that people here are well informed and/or are not here for yet another dose of what is filling their brainspace the rest of the day. Personally, I'm working very hard on trying to manage family, parents, academic department through this crisis. Posting about this stuff helps me divert, distract, stay sane for all the other aspects of my life. |
All Countries around the world are going into a form of a Lock Down. There are no clear guidelines as to how long these measures will be enforced. Incomes for millions are being lost, and frugal usage of any monies is the only option for Millions of People. The Coffers for the bulk of populations are as good as empty or empty. There are not too many people at present salivating about their next HiFi Purchase or to the next level searching out discounted offers. Vendors are feeling the change in the market, as their products fall into the luxury item sector, and are definitely non essential. This sector of the market is under threat of collapse, if the experinces being had by many continue for a extended period. I am sure there are plenty of new communications about the available products, as there is a lot of time on individuals hands at present, so a days gap fill, can easily be to make a enquiry about a product. I don’t see the vendors experiencing the remuneration for their work, so are looking to promote a stimulus to achieve new customers. If a individual can afford to make a wanted purchase, and this might not have a real impact on their finances in the months to come, as a result of all the economic uncertainties that could be met, then I am sure the Vendor will be appreciative of the support on offer, whether all are still in business in the near future to support any sales contracts ??, that’s for the buyer to consider. A excessive discount could easily be a stock dump. ’Caveat Emptor’. If a individual can’t be certain of their economic situation over the next week, month, year as a result of these unprecedented times, then I can only say, not any level of discounting will protect ones finances, if the purchases being made are for absolute luxury items as under discussion. I fall into the latter type with limited disposable income, I am going through a unknown period of lock down. I have purchased a few Vinyl Albums to add to the period of extended available time, so, a mix of the old and the new, to experience, hopefully a few new musical encounters for the sake of it, will be much more beneficial than determining whether a new device was worth the money, to be shortly followed up with the search for the next wonder device. For many at present the Populations of Countries are experiencing themselves as ’Humans Being’ and not ’Humans Wanting’. Embrace the unique moment, the markets will return with a vengeance, and put all back into unnatural practices. |
Hilde45: re gear to trade in. I have the Musical Fidelity V-90 DAC that the DirectStream replaced, good for $300 on trade-in. But it’s been so good that I repurposed it with the little integrated amp/DAC I use for casual listening in another room. But you’re right, PS Audio is also allowing up to $440 on trade-in even with the 20 percent off price. |
slimpikins5- Personally, I smell a rotting rat with this event; the markets were in my opinion very overblown due to a decade of funny money pump and CEO's using it for buy backs to enrichen themselves. Now they are at it again with more, much more unlimited printing and I cannot see any of this ending smoothly. They are on air every day saying it's time to buy in as its the buy of a lifetime..... really? If the markets were over-valued when at nearly 30K, and now the economy is shut down (this no two week deal, my customers today are notifying me that they will remain closed until at least the end of May perhaps longer); then I think the markets are more over-valued now at the 20K level based on what future earnings will be. Careful. People round here, too much (any) reality, they get triggered, and the mini-Mao's remove your post. |

I am not buying ANYTHING until I see some light, then I may consider a cheap plot of lake front property when I can buy it off of a bank who took it back. |

I’ve been waffling on a PS Audio Stellar Power Plant, $1759 or something like that at 20% off. That’s about the very most I would consider spending on power. Any thoughts? (I also bought a DirectStream DAC late last year when they sold it for $3999 with the streaming card included, which seemed like a heck of a deal if still vastly more expensive than any single piece of kit I’ve ever purchased.) |
This time is no different than any other bubble which blew itself up; it always takes the unforeseen event to stick the balloon; it was a pandemic this time around. Those who have large amounts in the stock market get nailed, people who own that second home they bought at inflated pricing using equity from the paid off primary home get nailed, guys like a friend of mine who just had to buy his 1934 Garwood lake boat for $100k which he uses a couple of times a year will get nailed. On and on in everyone of these cycles, its always the same. But it means that you'll usually find a great deal on something which was out of reach before. |
