Thanks for the tips. (I started another thread about this topic and it went south, fast. Weird, too, since anyone with the time to criticize someone for posting about audio clearly has the time to do *that*.)

@ebm I don't want to make things worse for anyone. Are you suggesting that it's better not to buy things that sellers have chosen to offer for sale?
Clearly, they are coerced by circumstances. I did not create these circumstances, nor did anyone here. Still, no one wants to take advantage of them.
But in order to decide that buying from them makes their situation worse, we'd need to know that they were actually doing something against their self-interest. But are they? Probably a case by case question, but how would one ever know?
Given all that, I think the safer course is to trust that sellers know what they're doing and why; then, it's just up to each of us to make our own decision. |

@slimpikins5 Good points. And those who are closer to retirement have it tougher than those who have a couple decades to go. And the poor, the homeless -- well, there's no better time to help. |
@jfuquay Do you have any gear to trade in? They'd likely work with you. |
@nonoise Me too. FWIW, this is not a post about over-trusting the stock market or spending one's retirement money on audio. It's just a post asking if people are seeing sales. This cigar is just a cigar. |

PS Audio has either figured out how to leap ahead of both new and used, or they're going to go broke. But, wow. Hard to beat. If you want their stuff. |
@pindac Wonderful post. Very grounding. Thank you. Given the national headlines about this virus, I have to confess it feels insane to be talking about this stuff. It is so irrelevant and so fantastical. If I thought that talking about the virus or places to donate money here would make a difference here, I'd do that. But my sense is that people here are well informed and/or are not here for yet another dose of what is filling their brainspace the rest of the day.
Personally, I'm working very hard on trying to manage family, parents, academic department through this crisis. Posting about this stuff helps me divert, distract, stay sane for all the other aspects of my life. |
@falconquest At first I ordered the WOW1's because I thought I'd do nearfield listening. Then, I decided to move my audio to a bigger room (not that big, 450 sq ft) and changed to the SS6M's. You should know that if you order them, they could take a long time. I surfed the audio circles and people talk of 3-4 and 6-7 month delivery times. And that's in non-virus circumstances. I'll be patient, but you might ask him what to expect. I've decided not to pester about these kinds of things because it just doesn't feel right, right now. [Tsunami rises in background] |
@falconquest I'd be curious what you find or consider for a second pair. I am waiting on some Salk speakers that are going to take a long time to get to me, so I just jumped on a price dip for some Klipsch RP-600M speakers. But, there are some sweet deals with the independent maker Ascend Acoustics which intrigue me, and I'm hoping to try some of Fritz Heiler's speakers, too. |
@haabitat Thank you for what you do! |
He wasn't specific but he indicated a time frame for my first ordered set and was very good about updating me when I asked again. Super nice guy, straight shooter. I don't feel surprised, overall. I knew it would take a while. I'm fine with it. |
I’m listening to Fritz, too, and hope to share, also. I heard my Salks are stalled in production due to the shutdown, there. |
@revrob Glad to hear you say that. By the time I get these speakers it will probably be 9 months since ordering. |
