Your not a serious audiophile I'd you have??????

Let's start a coversation kinda tongue in cheek about this question. Also lets comment on the other way around . Your not a serious audiophile if you don't have ????? I will post my thoughts after several others have posted. Mike

You are an "audiophile" if you have over $100,000 worth of equipment and less than 50 pieces of music to play on the system. And all 50 pieces of music are "audiophile" recordings.

You are a "music lover" if you have a Fisher 500 receiver, an old turntable, a mid-priced Grado cartridge and 5000 LP's on the shelves.

You are an "audiophile" if the only female vocals you own are by Patricia Barbara, Dinah Krall and Nora Jones.

You are a "music lover" if among those 5000 LP's on the shelves one can find female vocals by Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Chris Connor, Doris Day and Jo Stafford.

You are an "audiophile" if most of your music collection is drenched in artificial digital reverb.

You are a "music lover" if you are familiar with the magic that is contained way down there in the grooves of a great mono record.
Your not a serious audiophile if you don't have a magazine rack of Stereophile and The Absolute Sound mags in your bathroom. Mine are in the cabinet under the sink.
Unless you lied to your wife about exactly how much that cable cost

Unless you finished work early to get back home to either hide the box or put the component in your system and put the box in the loft because you know if you keep the box you will get more for it when you come to sell it all before the wife gets home.

I agree absolutely with the above comment When advertising second hand gear you describe it from child, smoke and pet free house
...back up components just in case any piece in that expensive collection malfunctions

...an Audiogon addiction

...a child, pet, and smoke free home - excluding fireplaces.

...
Your not a serious audiophile if you are not constantly telling everyone, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it"
You're not a serious audiophile if any of your 'boutique' cables/cords touch the floor.
You’re not a serious audiophile if you aren’t curious how much better things would sound using Synergistic fuses; have even less curiosity about the differences between Red vs Black fuse versions; and have absolutely no interest whatsoever finding out which fuse direction would sound best in your system.

You’re not a serious audiophile if you find Spotify good enough and the sound quality "advantage" of Tidal inadequate reason to spend 2x more per month.

(The larger principle at work in the above)...you are not a serious audiophile if you refuse to spend 10x more to chase an incremental "1%" in sonic improvement.
You're not a serious audiophile unless your non-audiophile friends have not heard of the manufacturers of the various components in your system
migueca, you are absolutely correct, and I have also noticed turntable flutter when squirrels are running along the power lines !!!!!
You're not a serious audiophile if you don't suspect of a subtle change in the bass extension every time you see birds landing upon the power lines outside your window.
Dragunski, I just took the tape off the floor with the 1/2 inch markings!  Guilty as charged, though it was not quite 100 times :-)
Until you've adjusted your speaker's positioning, an inch at a time, at least 100 times. And rerouted your cables at least 10.

Each time you must return to your sweet spot and listen.
Conversly you may be an audiophile if a woman you meet is either an audio engineer or studied electronics design and you are incredibly turned on by that.
You may Not be an audiophile unless you have purchased or considering a purchase of outrageously priced ethernet cables  (you'd never tell your IT guy about) that aren't supposed to make a difference but you can hear them anyway.
Your not a true audiophile if you put your equipment before the music!!! It's not the specs or how much you spend. It"s  about the connection. When you lose track of the equipment and become part of the performance you have crossed over.

You're not really serious unless while sitting in your dedicated listening room trying to enjoy the music, you can't, due to the fact that your mind is racing whilst considering that next big ticket item that you MUST have to tweak a miniscule amount more out of what you already have, and what you need to sell off(children, wife, dog, car) to pay for it.

Of course you really are serious if you relate to all the responses in this post and don't find them humours, just statements of fact!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

If you have not yet incorporated the kitchen sink to potentially enhance your listening experience some way or another :P

Interesting idea this person has using the exercise steppers for isolation. Filled with water or sand he might be on to something there  http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/648979705-dynaudio_special_25_speakers_and_stands/images/4032...

you are an audiophile if you rent a van and drive 9 hours in a day to make a speaker trade.  (I did this on Friday!)

If you drive a POS car so you can divert $ to the stereo... If you have a transistor. tube, and another transitor preamp in case one fails.... If you have one table with two armwands just in case...and another table for ?? If you have a drawer of extra ICs and PCs..... If you have ever recommended something cuz the dog liked it... All true...
Lost a remote control that used to belong to said mentioned beloved electronic gracing advertisement.
Return from CES with Kimber Kable silver speaker cable for your girlfriend instead of flowers.

. . . If you haven't dimpled you're nice wood floor to allow you to a reference point to maintain speaker placement.
. . . If you haven't dimpled you're nice wood floor to allow you to maintain speaker placement.
Definitely not serious if you have more than 20 'audiophile' songs on regular rotation. When you go to your buddy's house you insist on playing only the same songs then you pause the music and discuss equipment for 3 hours or until you finally notice he's nodded off. True story!!!
You're not an audiophile unless you have one of each type of component as a back up....
You are not a serious audiophile unless you have at least $1000 worth of tweaks you previously scoffed at.
You're not a serious audiophile if you never took advantage of a sensitive moment to buy something - I told my wife that I was negotiating a new pair of speakers the day my first kid was born. There she was holding the baby with tears of pain and joy and I just told her "Honey, I found a real good bargain, the speakers I've been talking about for almost half price. I'm ordering them later today! ... Our baby is sooo cute!"
You are not if you haven't figure out the difference between PCL and DSD.
you are not if your software Music doesn't have a second backup copy.
if you are not playing from NAS.
if you don't have  separate component for each stage.. better if you have multiple components for each stage ;).
if you don't spend time looking at new listing on audiogon..

You are not serious if you haven't bought your wife a nice car because you feel a little guilty about how much $$$ you have spent that she doesn't know about.

You are not serious if you can remember "how much that cost" when your wife asks.
You are not serious if you are unwilling to pay your staff $20 each time to intercept UPS before they get to the front door. (Staff was 100 % until $7000 Headtrip headphone amp showed last week.)

You are not serious if you do not recognize "Headtrip" as a quadruple entendre.

You are not serious if your car cost more than your headphone amp.
(Mine didn't :)
If you have ever listened to live music, you are not a serious audiophile.
Giri

Your not a serious audiophile if you can't answer "YES" to EVERY comment listed here...

P.S.

I feel like I'm at an AA meeting, toasting with a frosty keg of  IPA......'So dirty but so good'

After you spent a huge amount of money to upgrade your system, you hurried back from work, skipping dinner, turned on your system, put on your. favorite music, and then, lets see... whats new on audiogon today? :)
It's the other way around - by playing loud the speakers are telling the wife to shut up.
Every speaker has it's own amp and my wife was yelling TURN IT DOWN IT'S TO LOUD before all separate amps to each speaker
The only comment your wife ever makes about your AV system is: "TURN IT DOWN>>>>IT"S TOO LOUD!!!
Yeah right, your system must be worth more than your wife for you to be considered an audiophile.

You're not serious unless you've been threatened with divorce/forced abstinence/the 'long hard cold stare'/a 'come to Jesus' meeting or variants of the previous...
You'd have max'd out a credit card at least once.  Points for multiple occurrences.  Bankruptcies win the lifetime title...
When 'the remodel' is for a new dedicated listening space ALONE, and not included in a larger plan...
Your dreams play out like a visit to an audio convention...
You wake up twiddling yourself/spouse/both in a non-sexual fashion, but you're excited Anyway...(...this one is Real Serious, and you really need help...)
Your closets have no space for clothes....
You don't like driving in your vehicle because the 'sound is so bad'...after the equipment has been replaced for the nth time....
Your wifes certainly not an audiophile if she doesn't notice the visible/audible differences between $1000 and $3500 speakers.
You're not a audiophile if have not sneaked new equipment into your house past your wife, if your wife does not understand the acronym WAF or if your wife's eyes do not glaze over when you try to talk about $120 fuses with her.
"Posts older than 30 minutes cannot be edited" Oh wise guy, I see how its like. I finally catch one in time then get denied.
