What other Hobbies or Interests Do You Have?

Hello,
I was curious as to what other Hobbies or Interests do you have that also take up much of your time, energy and money or is Audio the only one for you?
Being a car enthusiast is definitely my first passion. Always reading about new cars and lusting after some classics.

For me, besides my interest in building a Audio System in the past few years, I am also a Car Enthusiast and Amateur Photographer (actually I hate using that term, more like a photo enthusiast because I consider myself a novice).
All 3 Hobbies have taken much of my time, energy and money. Sometimes I look back and think, wow, what have I done?
Could have saved all that money and time.
So I guess I should list my gear if I am talking about other hobbies:
Cars:

2016 Mustang GT 6 Speed (weekend car, a few modifications) and 2018 Subaru Forester XT (Daily Driver). Obviously both are performance oriented.

Camera Gear: Nikon D750 with Kit Lense, Nikon 50mm 1.8 Lense, Tamron 14-24MM 2.8G
Thnx

geoffkait,

Even cassettes can be managed, but once you start collecting pebbles...
geoffkait,

It is not ideal, but you could have it much worse. You could be collecting cassettes.
I fell Into the Vortex of Evil 😈- collecting CDs. Sure, I listen occasionally but I know what I like - collecting them! Is that wrong?
A few hours of music listening everyday. Each day looks like this:
2-4 hours of pickleball everyday
2 hours of tennis 3 times a week
couple hours of ping ping 2 times a week
bowling (league/practice)
remote control sail boating
card/dominoes play 2.5 hours each day, weekends are up to 5 hours of play.
I used to waterski the slalom course 5 days a week up until I got 2 new knees, so we moved to a 55+ community that has all of these sports/activities everyday

(1) Cruising in my JAGUAR XK8 ragtop with my fave tunes on .... so I can “boogie while I buggy “..

Great relaxer for me with the top down, the sun on my face, the wind in my hair, (... bugs in my teeth ?)
(2) GOLF .... a hobby name that is an acronym for Game Of Lifetime Frustration... ( sigh)
Jay, go out and get yourself a Honda CB1100 and stop worrying about it. You'll be fine. Get to the gym.
The Turbo S is faster than anyone needs in a street car. The PDK transmission is sort of bland in street use. The C4S is more fun on the street. On track it is the other way around and I am toying with the idea of turning it into a track car. All it needs is a roll bar, track tires and a re tune.
Mc, I stuff it last night. Tying up a stuffed pork belly is quite a chore I always swear I'll never do it again. It has been sitting all night in the fridge. The skin is salted and in the fridge it dries out which helps get it real crispy. It also picks up the flavors in the stuffing. Onion, Apricots, Parsely, Tyme, Sage, Bread Crumbs, Honey and Salt.
Corelli, Google the Stelvio Pass and look at a picture. There are 48 switch backs and each one is numbered. Going up is easy and the people cheer you on as they drive by. Going down is scary. You pick up speed fast then you have to brake hard for the turn. If you see a bus coming you have to stop or you will get squished against the inside rail.
By the time you get to the bottom your hands hurt from all the braking. It is a 12 mile descent. God bless Campy disc brakes.
To begin, I should state that I am a retired 70 year old. Living on 40 acres in a home I built. Much of my time these days is in property maintenance/improvement and keeping the trails open.

I work out 3 days a week and take a distance walk when time allows. I own a motorcycle, don't ride it as often I once did. Love microbrewerys.

In the past I was a runner, a target archer, and backpacker. Still participate in these activities somewhat, however not often.

Have been enjoying audio as a hobby more since retirement. Have two systems, one in my small dedicated room and one that gets rolled out on the back deck.
Only one other golfer if I counted right....

Golf - trying to get more distance and hit it straight

Landscaping - trying to keep up

Boating - I have a boat

Cycling, walking, core excercise

Audio - trying to stop the bleeding

I am 4 years retired so I consider those activities to be my job and some my passion....if the market doesn’t bottom out soon working might top that list!
'What does jerryasv do when he's not pestering Us?!"

Primary activity: Co-owner with spouse of our business, designing/building/installing custom wood play structures for mostly commercial clients, and residential ones for those who can afford us.*S*
The latter start at around 5K$ IF you're in the local area.
They're unique.
We have a commercial project pending later this year at 450ishK$ 1 hour away....we don't commute when it's that size....

Hobbies:  Well, my DIY audio stuff and periodically annoying y'all....and others 'elsewhere'.  A certain amount of time is spent 'lurking', learning when y'all get technical, having a good chuckle at y'alls' expense at other times....;)

I used to bicycle a lot, later onto motorcycles.  Since I'm 'of an age' where I've become a tad 'friable', I drive a Focus SEL like the refugee from LA, SF, and Houston that I is....
In an era of 'combat traffic'...I play 'high-speed chess'.  But I refrain from pushing my limits and that of the car.  And I'm wary of you.
'Nuff said.

Always been a fan of cars, growing up in the muscle car era.  Personal tastes in the genre' is F1, GP, rallies (EU and such)....NASCAR and Indy is boring.....sorry...but not much...

I enjoy tinkering/building things outside of the business' scope.  Speakers vs. wood makes for a nice Ying/Yang balance...  Grew up around tools; parents and older brother (all deceased) all worked at one time or another at Douglas/McDonnel-Douglas/Boeing.
"Watchin' them planes....wish I was on one...." *S*
I have aluminum in my blood, along with plastics and other exotics.
Would like to investigate 3D printing metal....but have worked with a rather varied range of tools, machines, and such.  Have a background in commercial graphics...signage, ID graphics, print medias....

Art, good food, reading, home and garden this 'n that, the occasional movie, live music if something compelling hits in the area, pestering the dog, annoying the 'red-headed dream' spouse for 40+ years (yes, she retaliates) all in good fun....

We're not much to look at...but likely, you aren't either.  So there. *L* ;)

When we're off on an 'out of area' install, we take a break and 'speed tour' wherever we are.  Sample the local foods, public arboretums, museums....

Not much of a 'conventional' sports fan....great for selling beer, cars, and whatever gets hawked in the midst of it.....

...and you're likely bored to tears....so go have a beer..*G*😆

At times, I feel I am the only one in these woods without a Porsche.
I do track events in my 944Turbo S track car
I've always been into sporty cars over the years
Just sold my 96 Porsche 993 Turbo, but still have a 78 911 SC for Sunday drives. The 993 turbo was insane!! I think track cars are like high end stereo equipment. If you can't walk up to your track car, throw a match on it, set it on fire and walk way, you shouldn't be in the hobby
@glupson                                                                                           .

I always knew you had a good post in you somewhere.
Thanks for the confirmation.
I like to teach classes for FEMA.  I use to be a professional bowler, but a car accident change that. Love my two dogs. I also play the highland bag pipes.
ebm,

You have had similar responses in a number of threads and have never gotten back to us. Why are you keeping us in suspense?

And they tell me I am slow.

cars, a long. trail of Porsche iron culminating in an X-50 running 1.4 bar. Miss the 993 the most, shopping for a 356 for beach running and as a portable hedge fund.

boats are just tools for killing fish. Welded aluminum, even the beach is afraid of it. I fish remote places between WA and AK but love Northern BC. The goal is fish 40-50 days a year.

We eat good. We drink well. Patrons of the arts, we invest in young artists. We sponsor films ( see Maury Island Incident for grins ), pro bono consulting for a few small manufacturing co. Capital / VC funding advice for a micro brewery, standup paddle board co.

I read, nothing Neo RepubliKLAN. I make time for work mentees, meeting with a solid core of ten each quarter. They are the future.

I shoot my german air pistol now and then, nothing like a falling Phesant from a fine double, or a very very long elk shot with a fifty cal blackpowder rifle you built with your dad..

life is grand, except when it’s not.
@mijostyn No need for anti-depressants.  It's not chemical. Thanks for your note. Yeah, I like working on the house. Fed up with how our country is headed. I hate property tax. How do you ever retire? 20 years would equal over $200,000. Where do you get that? No wonder the elderly are bagging groceries. Friends in Europe don't pay property tax and with free healthcare have no worries. US has got to change.
No hobbies, but have been to Stelvio, Transfagarasan, The Dragon, and a few more. Not on a bicycle, though.
Wow Guys, Awesome!

Very interesting to reads everyone's comments.

@mijostyn, I have lusted for 911's, your Turbo S must be a joy to drive

@corelli, that Civic must be very fun to drive, I like the way they look

Always wanted to get a Motorcycle, got my license about 5 years ago but alas, no bike yet. As I get older, I keep thinking, should I risk it?

I like the Cafe Style or Street Style bikes (Motto Guzzi V7 or V9, Ducati Scrambler Line, Triumph Street Twin).

Never really fished b4 but does look very relaxing and fun.

Have not kept myself up physically over the years and so hard to do physical activities now, get winded to easily, ha.

The days when I would glissade down (on my feet!) are sadly all behind me now.
mijostyn,  your right about the climbs.  I think they only time I could come close to keeping up with you is on a steep descent!
"Reminds me, I do love to cook"
Me too. I have an old, beat-up Napoleon grill that still cooks, and I especially like to put a roast on it. Prime rib, pork loin, anything that benefits from a mix of direct and indirect cooking is fun for me. Steaks, sure -- but I'm more likely to use either a charcoal Weber or iron pan on the stove for those.

mmmmm Mike said pork belly! Reminds me, I do love to cook. Barbecue, stove top. Not much for baking. Roasting, yes. Baking, not so much. Ribeye, pork belly, will be on the Traeger tonight!
Hiking and Photography especially in the National Parks and the Adirondacks. We like to spend at least a week in each National Park and hike and Photograph as many trails as possible. To date, we have visited 37 of the 62 National Parks.

Other interests or hobbies include:
Kayaking (mostly in the Adirondacks)
Woodworking
Model Railroading
Railfanning - Arcade & Attica RR, Strasburg RR, Durango & Silverton RR,  Cumbres & Toltec RR, Tweetsie RR, Georgetown Loop RR

I used to be a car enthusiast when they were easier to work on and everything was not computer controlled. I used to like to tune them with after market carburetors, exhausts, etc. and did all the maintenance work myself. Now, I just drive a sporty sedan (BMW 335i xDrive 6sp manual) to satisfy my car interest.

Panda taxidermy, motorcycle, too many guitars, seemingly fast cars, longboard surfing, automatic watches, relentlessly bullying those who appear to be weak and silly.
Raising a 9 and 2 year old at nearly 50 is a challenge. My wife and I are both working professionals which allows for the occassional hobby purchase.

My latest purchase was a used 2019 Trek Slash with carbon frame and wheels. The 2.6" wide 29er tires roll over stuff with such ease. A Cadillac CTS V-sport provides spirited driving opportunities on short commutes and family outings. The gun hobby and target practice used to be fun, but CA put a stop to that mostly.

A recent trip to Glacier National Park took us through Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. The space and environment reminded me how different life could be like outside CA.
The only thing that can get me away from Bach and Mozart is a fishing rod or my deer rifle .
But I will have to find time read up the speeches where the person in charge of
the coming viral onslaught says he doesn’t believe in Science . He must be right .
Computers (I build my own), antique radios, amateur videography (especially in support of my wife’s various civic activities; I use Panasonic AG-UX180 video cameras), formerly running (before age caught up with me; I’ve done one marathon as well as a great many middle distance races), French wines, my Porsche Cayman S and Macan S.

Best regards,
-- Al

I like to read and shop for cat food.

For exercise I usually read, but sometimes I shop for cat food instead.

Mc, I'm NSA. Geoffkait is a voodoo witch doctor. He tweaks his system by needling the speakers. That is why he does not like ESLs. I'm OK with the real Tom Clancy.

I forgot eating. I'm real good at that. Tonight is Apricot stuffed pork belly.

Corelli, ya, ok on the flat but not so hot climbing. We tend to go places to climb like the Stelvio. We have a lot more to do in France and Spain. We have done all the great climbs in the Dolomites. The Mortirolo has an average 10% grade and goes up to 18%. Lance said it was the hardest stage he'd ever done. There is a monument to Marco Pantani about 1/2 way up. It was his favorite stage.
