I always thought when I retired I would grow my hair long, drink wine, and smoke dope. I am 69 now; and am bald, decided I don't like hangovers, and pot is still illegal in Indiana. At least I can read threads like this one. Very witty and entertaining personalities. Don't stop; otherwise I would have nothing to do in my mancave except listen to tunes! |
unobtaniumears ... "I must laugh at the people making excuses for a bully and who believe that these placebo products do anything." Just curious ... which of the many SR products did you try in your home? When you heard no improvement, did you have any problem getting your money back as promised by the 30-day return policy? Hmm, only one post. Your name wouldn't be Gene by any chance, would it? Frank |
+1 for nonoise ... The first time I sat through a Ted Denney presentation at one of the shows, I was amazed at the difference his A/B comparisons made. Very obvious to me. However, the guy sitting next to me asked me if I heard a difference. I said it was amazing. He sneered, as only a total dweeb can sneer, and said that he heard no difference whatsoever. I said ... find a different hobby. He said "F-You. I laughed and said ... this is no time for romance. He stormed out in a GeorgieHifi rage. Frank |
Using a neutral site isn't a red herring it's basic protocol to get an unbiased response but short of that there should be a third party who covers the cables being tested in a generic sleeve who gives them to another neutral party that switches them out. If the cables can be defined better than chance you have something other than that it's pissing in the wind. |
Just how many here are going to say they have no dog in this fight but....blah, blah, blah, then Ted is a scumbag? Can one say the same of Gene? Bunch of nonsense. Also, copping out with some demand of neutral territory is a red herring, at best. Everything looks to be out in the open. Swapping out items is done right in front of you. Does anyone think Ted has devices in his walls or anything as ludicrous? I’ve been to audio shows where SR has done their demos. Yes, the differences were there and as evident as one could want. Were they better, or just different, it depended, but they were obvious. And yet, there were always some clowns whispering and laughing amongst themselves about how there was no difference at all. You know the type: like the ones in grade school who thought that saying it just loud enough to be heard but not out in the open made them a man because they got it out and no one protested. Now, either they were tone deaf or of the mind to just flat out dismiss what they heard because it wasn’t big enough for them. Or, they had some know it all theory as to why and ran with that. Then, they come on forums like this and harp away. All the best, Nonoise |

May all the combatants on both sides of the issue of cables enjoy the latest battle in The Cable Wars! Imo, it’s a colossal waste of life and potential of the hobby when arguing about such things if people don’t even follow basic, proper methods. :) I agree. I don’t mind people pitching anything, even pricey fuses, but it is often done in a vacuum seemingly for the sole purpose of getting others to buy product X, which comes of as shilling. If you ignore fundamentals first, or get those wrong, none of the more esoteric things really matter. |
pedroeb, didn't mean to ignore you. Succinctly, I compare/informally test for any change. The articles I wrote previously about the grouped tweaks yielded no discernible change! If there is change, then the question becomes one of merit. Ok, keep shooting; can't let the other side win, even though it's a convoluted mess. ;) |
ticat, thank you; I attempt to conduct myself with integrity, and although there have been moments when I have not been as courteous as I should, I also attempt to show respect to the community. I simply find such informal experimentation to be one of my great joys, along with system building. The spectrum of performance in audio systems is stunningly vast, with millions of iterations possible. It is like being on a world tour of secret destinations of great beauty. I want to see (hear) them all! Variety of experiences in listening is THE thing for me, and you do not get variety by sitting on your a-- and doing nothing. It has led to some fascinating experiences; another has just appeared this past week, another variant of systems that I put together and has been delightful. Not discussing that at this time, but it may appear in an upcoming review. I have made my points, and publicly offered my proposal to SR. I do not intend to continue discussing it here, as it is somewhat off topic. I suspect the proposal will be ignored by SR. May all the combatants on both sides of the issue of cables enjoy the latest battle in The Cable Wars! Imo, it’s a colossal waste of life and potential of the hobby when arguing about such things if people don’t even follow basic, proper methods. :) |
https://www.audioholics.com/editorials/synergistic-research Agree if this is true, Ted is truly a scumbag. And I repeat IF true. On the other hand I've never been to Audioholics site until now based on the link. So sad for both parties. |
@geof3 I don't own any SR products and I have seen several of Gene's Audioholics video's. It amuses me that a man (Gene) thinks he can slander a company and its products but when they stand up for themselves and fight back, he becomes the victim. Here is a novel idea, don't talk shyte about anyone and they probably won't talk shyte about you. Especially on the internet hiding behind a keyboard or a camera. The minute you do you are fair game. |

I’m personally not a fan of SR products...Wouldn’t be a surprise, he gives a used car/real estate salesman feeling in his video to counter it Cheers George |
True? Who cares, Gene and Ethen Winters have been attacking EVERY one on earth sense the beginning of time. What did they expect would happen. BOTH guys spout the same stuff. They keep trying to PROVE WHAT?.. The whole point.. We have a choice to BUY or NOT. They act like THEY got ripped off. It is literally none of their damn business.. It's like taking a personal stance against Ford motor company for not making cars LOOK like GM and how dare they charge more or less if you think it's NOT worth it.. Buy the GM.. No one is under obligation to prove anything. BUT there it is, put up or shut up.. You reap what you sow.. I expect some nasty crap to come out of it, if the brother in arms, don't put a cork in it.. No need to expect anything different. I just want to SEE it happen, magic ear on the way... |
I don’t have a pony in this race, I’m personally not a fan of SR products... but if any of this https://www.audioholics.com/editorials/synergistic-research is true, Ted is indeed a scumbag. It would still be an interesting exercise either way. |
ozzy, you ask some fair questions: My answers: My "axe to grind" is with poor methods; some companies make products that I feel are used with poor methods. I have no particular disdain for SR, but I do for poor methods. Let whoever wishes disagree with me. So be it. The track record of my posts shows that many times I have had cordial disagreements and friendly debates with people here. I am not interested in attacking companies through stealth operations, i.e. buying and then putting out a hit job on them. Such articles would never get published, and rightly so. I never consider product sent to be a frieebie; it would be returned at the end of the period, or purchased. Anything left on loan to use for reviewing is always considered the company's regardless of the time span. I even contact companies over time to request return of products that have been sitting. |

A fascinating proposal and discussion. Will it be taken up and what will be the result? douglas_schroeder2,971 postsPersonally I believe even subtle improvements are worthwhile and it would be crazy to dismiss them simply because they are not easily discernible. Is there really anything wrong with focused listening? |
oregonpapa, "Your colleague should study the difference between perfect and imperfect markets. :-)" I will let him know, but I suspect what he will ask. What is the benefit of using a real estate agent in the times of the Internet? Things get checked very quickly and facts are readily available. Even car dealers have been seriously affected. Well, most anything has been affected and, in many cases, made simpler and more straightforward. I will ask him tomorrow, maybe I guessed his response wrong. |
"Synergistic Research - Audioholics challenge" His title to that ** boob tube video. As he already been offered the "Audioholics Challenge" here many times to back his "snake oil" disciples on what they say on these forums about his fuses, HRT's, UEF's, and has not accepted or responded not even once. Any other honest manufacturer would be biting at the bit to come on if invited, to back their product. Cheers George |
May I suggest a bake off and may the best gear win Axpona 2021 double blind listening shoot out, would be worth the price of admission Let the public decide Tally the votes Ted wins by a landslide, cable snake oil myth solved once and for all Only in my dreams, Gene does not want a clear and simple answer That would deny him opportunity to continue spreading misinformation, confusion and general stirring of the pot |
I think for the good of the hobby somebody needs to step up. I’ve always respected Bob Carver and Ethan Weiner. These constant scuffs that everybody gets into is getting old. Are used to look forward to reading in the evenings what was going on but it’s the same old same old. I can’t remember the last time I actually learned some thing. It seems like every time I am on either I offend someone or they offend me. It’s a bummer really |
Only one way to settle this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pmRAiUPdRjkTwo men enter, one man leaves! |
Yes... I was a bit terse with myself. Just had a bowl of potato salad (egg/mayo/mustard/celery - potatoes:-) and am feeling more like my old "less terse/less jerkface" self. The fix for the salt mess is a $1200 Roomba and/or a pet housecow. I opted for the housecow as it also licks/cleans my LP's. Oh and... OT (forgot to post that before and before and before). DeKay |
I thought the measurement BS and no listening went out of fashion with Julian Hirsch, apparently not. Ted Denny is willing to put his money up to back his claims not only with Audioholics but us consumers as well with the Synergistic Research 30 day trial. I will be very surprised if Audioholics even responds to this challenge let alone shows up. If they do accept the challenge ( extremely unlikely) ; Ted should hire Michael Buffer to do his boxing announcer routine and then have three scorekeepers such as writers from Stereophile, The Absolute Sound and What Hifi or 6 Moons keep score. It would be great theater ! |
@dekay Well, I tried the salt from 5'8". It got all over the carpet... If I had put the pumpernickel on some kind of elevation device, the salt wouldn't have gone all over the place. A riser perhaps, so the salt maintained a greater uniformity when it made contact with the grain. And calling yourself jerkface because of someones yeast infection, is a bit harsh. I would certainly never use such harsh language should you not agree that raising the pumpernickel would make a difference to the salt flow. |
douglas_schroeder, I always thought you were a fair and honest reviewer but based on you comments on this thread you seem to have an axe to grind with Synergistic and anyone who disagrees with you. Why can’t you just buy the items or ask dealers for loaners like the rest of us have to and then test them yourself? Why do you require "freebies" or special attention to trial? ozzy |
Oh wow, so this is an old thing around here about synthetic carpets somehow affecting the signal in the copper because they were the same material as the plastic insulation on the wire? Also not at all how electricity works. The damn wrap has nothing to do with anything! https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/can-anyone-explain-cable-risers |
