Lord snowflake, you are such a cute little tosser.
Are there any recording artists you just can’t listen too?
For me there is one that has always been top of the list.
Edith Piaf…..l just can’t think of anything worse.
Do not get me wrong and consider my choice is in any way racist….l love to listen to music with songs in any language… Italian, French, Spanish…..
Russian and German can however be extremely demanding, but Edith Piaf (if possible in any language) is a potential harrowing experience.
Do any others on here have a similar artist, or artists that can trigger the same physical reaction?

@simao Yeah, no big deal. I had to Google it because I wasn't sure. I fact-check everything, so I'm a fountain of useless information! 😁 |
@simao George Carlin died from heart failure. |
@mapman exactly. Uncle Wilbur clued me in on that |
@markalarsen “Piss or piss off?” l have out of interest looked at some of your previous posts. Very truthful on the counterfeit market and the perpetrators which should be more talked about, acted upon, not tollerated, and not ignored/dismissed by so many. I was wondering what your previous post was saying….Is there an artist or artists by that name? Was this post legit or is it counterfeit, or intended for another subject? Ultimately is it a “piss take?” l for one given the choice would personally take “pissed off” rather than “pissed on” 🌂

Kermit from “The Muppets Show” couldn’t sing either. Perhaps it runs in the family? @expoobident No problem with you liking Edith, just not my glass full of champagne. Edith, was an icon of her time But sadly, just not one of mine
Discussion feedback👏 Never expected the discussion to achieve this level of interest.🚀 |
@mylogici was referring to an earlier, poorly phrase post. Sarcasm does not translate well in writing. . |
”Poorly phrase?” @markalarsen My thinking too (poor English) from the comments of our US correspondent when l read his reply. George Bernard Shaw said, “Two Nations divided by a common language” “American” (if a real language) is a bastardised language. Leads to all sorts of misunderstandings. Maybe a typo? Benefit of the doubt? Shall will let him off (not like a firework, we don’t want a misunderstanding) on that one? “Poorly Phrase” could be like, American “math” V English “Maths”….another bastardisation. (US…Bastardization) Better not be too rude, we could end up with litigation proceedings and find ourselves in court. So let’s “drop the dead donkey” (English expression) and leave it at that. An interesting discussion all the same. Perhaps it’s best to just let us agree to disagree? |
Tastes were acquired,by accidental exposure at critical times, by training, by education,by attention to some aspects of any multidimensional events as music and songs... Tastes are never right or wrong , they are meaningful habits or meaningless one... We kept our tastes because they are part of our being, as a luggage is indication of our origin, destination and intentions... We must educate ourselves... We must think about what we like and dislike and why... Sometimes our taste reflect a good intuition about aesthetics and meanings sometimes they reflect our ignorance... We will never understand our biases, innate or acquired, if we do not extend our scope of attention... Music and speech are yogas....Not only leisure... Black or light yogas... The effect of sounds on our own beings is so huge we cannot be conscious of it without meditation...
Thoughtless tastes will stay at worst meaningless or at best pleasurable habits.... We cannot change all our tastes and it is not the goal, but we can change our own attention level... We can ask why is it such.... To begin with.... |
”Idle hands do the devils work” A very true quote, but it can equally apply to those batting for the other camp. l think we are both on here as we are not currently toiling earnestly and do-gooding. It is a Bank Holiday here in the UK but as usual it is also raining. I must sign off now. The last resort is to watch “The Ten Commandments” on TV again for quite possibly the tenth time. At least it is guaranteed to generate a good laugh at Charlton Heston’s beard. Great musical score by Elmer Bernstein, but the over acting by Edward (Mother of mercy, is this the end of Rico”) G. Robinson, playing Dathan is a performance that “l just can’t watch” |
Bono and Co. are doing some celebratory concerts in the UK. They were promoting them on live breakfast time TV. Bono looked quite scary and ridiculous as usual wearing bright iridescent orange sunglasses. He reminded me of Robin Williams wearing those goggles from that scene in “Flubber”…… l was flubberghasted how stupid he looked. His other band members should politely tell him, the “Minions” look…. is just not a good look. He also now appears to have actually morphed into a Robin Williams look-alike. Check him out…...has Bono now become a recording artist you just can’t look at? |
@mahgister that’s a good call on how it tastes are required by circumstance and sometimes by accident. As much as anyone on this post reviles a particular artist or genre, we know we all have certain artists and taste that most others would just cringe from but we absolutely love! I acquired my love of rush because one of my college teammates played it on the bus on the way back from a game and all the sudden that magic voice instrumentals just hit home. But then again, I can dive deep into Coltrane or AUTUMN! Or Julie London, and still guiltlessly Revel in Debbie Gibson or Katy Perry. |
It is why it is useless to dress a list of what we love or hate...It is part of our personal journey... Especially if we dont have any explanation about why we love it or hate it... For example i can understand why the Bob Dylan voice is repulsive to many... But why did i learn to love his voice tone ? Because i paid attention to poetry...
Why many people dislike Persian music or Mozart operas? Because they dont pay attention to it....
Tastes are like a beast born from our attention and we must learn how to tame it... At least to some extent.... We cannot love everything in the same way and on the same level...

@mahgister “tastes are like a beast born from our attention….” @simao “that’s a good call on how it tastes” l like the reasoning and stepping back and having another look, or listen as debated in these last two posts. The idea of this discussion was more about irritations and not hatred towards recording artists. I am sure more people like those artists mentioned than actually hate them. The intention of the discussion was to say why any said artists were perceived as underachieved or bad and to share the reasoning why. I have mentioned a few times before to members to add more information as to the whys. Unfortunately most of the lists have just been that, just lists. Any future members wanting to post on this discussion please add more facts to the debate. Declare exactly what it is that bugs you about these performers. Who knows some others on here may take note and revisit these artists and choose to agree or not. There may be more meaningful posts back (like the two above) with new informed attitudes or opinions. There have now been 21,000+ posts. Thank you to everyone who have visited or have consistently revisited.

i like your intention and attention but most people will enumerate what they dont like without explanation... I know why i like Bruckner it is less evident why i dislike some artists...

@gdaddy1 are you kidding? He was born into a working class circumstance in New Jersey for God’s sake. And he busted his ass as a musician from the time he could play. I mean, it’s not Stanley Kowalski hauling meat up the stairs laborer, but that’s a pretty working class upbringing |
Not kidding. He did run from the draft. When is being born into a "working class" circumstance an unfortunate situation? He didn't grow up in a slum. His house was decent in a middle class neighborhood in Freehold N.J. Not bad at all. His father worked in a factory and wanted Bruce to be a productive member of the family. He refused to work and only wanted to 'play' his music. His father had issues with that. He then sings about the hardships and social injustice that he never experienced. T He sings about life as a dead end street. Painting a picture that everything is wrong about America. He sings about his poor dying hometown and it just wasn't true!! Freehold N.J. is doing better than ever! Capitalism is bad! But now, he himself is the $billionare because he WAS 'born in the U.S.A.' He should be thankful but it doesn't appear so. It's all a phony story. He now lives a mile away from a Trump owned million dollar golf course community. Imagine that! |
Gee, @gdaddy1 , showing up for your draft physical and 4-Fing is not synonymous with draft dodging. If you want to talk about draft dodging, let’s talk about how Freddy Kruger Trump kept Cadet Bonespurs out of Vietnam. Aas far as Freehold: Freehold, New Jersey faced two major moments of deindustrialization in the post-World War II period. In the late 1950s, the rug mill that sat at the center of the town's economic and cultural life began to close down. In 1986, a 3M audio-visual tape plant that had helped the town avoid economic ruin shut down as well. This paper illustrates the continuities between these closings, challenging the dogma in labor history that plant closings occur because of management's desire to avoid an entitled and demanding workforce. Though workers at both plants were unionized, neither the rug mill nor the 3M workers made major demands on their employers in the postwar period. This paper analyzes the conditions that prompted shutdowns in Freehold, illustrating the role of broader market forces as well as internal company dynamics in driving capital flight. Furthermore, a close look at the 3M closing reveals the importance of culture in workers' responses to deindustrialization. Following 3M's announcement of its plans to shut down the Freehold plant, workers began a national media campaign to save their jobs. At the heart of this campaign was the memory of the rug mill that had closed 25 years earlier, as represented by their campaign anthem, Bruce Springsteen's 1984 song "My Hometown." This paper demonstrates the role of memory and music in shaping workers' experience with deindustrialization as well as the struggles of unions to codify the relationship between capital and community in the twentieth century. |
“As far as freehold” @immatthewj we will come to you for council. As an historian, you are the GOAT IYKYN, or did you Google it? Learning very fast over here in the UK, but I can only assume to know in context what “4-fing” actually implies. Is this a new American slang word? |
@mylogic , 4-F was/is the military classification of unfit for military service, and as it applied to Bruce it was because he failed the physical. Cadet Bonespurs, on the other hand, first got 4 educational deferrals (one was when he was attending Wharton’s School For Girls With Bone Spurs in Pa.) and then he got himself medically disqualified. Here is what he said about that subject, “I had a doctor that gave me a letter — a very strong letter on the heels." As far as My Hometown and Freehold NJ, the subject of geedaddy’s little rant, keep in mind that the Born In The USA album was released in ’84 after nearly four years of Ronnie Ray-Gun’s redistribution of the wealth (upward) program and Freehold was still on a downward course. As Bruce was born in '49 he would have witnessed that track over the course of his youth and at the time the song/album was released. And yes, that post above was from a google, and no, I am not a historian. But to know what Ronnie was doing to the working men & women in the US one didn’t have to be a historian. I actually found work with an overseas company in the middle east at that time to get myself out of the hole I was in, since I didn’t have Bruce’s talent or Freddy Trump for a father. |
@immatthewj Gee Wiz…and all that stuff. l can see now the internal politics. Freddie and junior and all that too. It explains all the current international trumping going on. I can see the seeds of “gee-o politics” that we are all now living with started right back then. Sorry @tonyrox for drifting off topic again

Back on topic now.. Slade 1966 - 2025 WAS FAKE NEWS. They have said before about last TV appearances and concerts etc. It has been announced a new “LAST TOUR” starting in December in the UK. l may however have still been right. Most Slade concerts of late have been with one original member, and should have been called “The Dave Hill Band” |
