Why Don’t You Post Your System on Your Profile?

Many of you ask others to advise you, but the answer to so many questions is system dependent.  Why don’t you post your system on your profile prior to requesting help?

@nonoise

I am not going to make audio recommendations to people that don't post their system. The medical recommendations you need are beyond the scope of this thread. I hope you got the Depends, it is only a work around until you can find a physician. All the best :).

@kota1

You need to practice what you preach. If you're not going to talk to anyone who doesn't post photos of their system, why do you continue to do so? Such a hypocrite.

Obviously I hit a nerve (several, really, but it's just a saying). You're going around here with a tape measure, taunting like that 12 yr old I alluded to. You keep repeating yourself, trying to get the better of me and think you're making progress. Beat me up? 😄 That's a good one.

Your clumsy attempts at snark are nothing more than "I'm rubber and your glue..." levels of arrested development on full display here for the members to see. Like I said many posts ago....grow up, move on. You're not the threat you think you are.

All the best,
Nonoise

It does NOT function satifacorily, if you botherd to read all the many comments to the contrary.

I said it functions satisfactorily for me. I understand you don't think it functions satisfactorily for you, but that's just your opinion.

You, like the mods on this site, have your head(s) firmly in the sand.

Sometimes, people's opinions will differ from yours. That doesn't mean that they don't see the facts, or that you don't see the facts. It's how opinions work.

why can't they fix it? Heads in the sand, that's why.

The "heads in the sand" gag is an ad hominem logical fallacy. That doesn't help your argument.

The same goes for adding ones system. Why on Earth is it hidden?

It isn't hidden. Plenty of people seem to find it without any issue at all. That there's something that isn't where you think it should be doesn't mean it's "hidden."

@cleeds - Overall, I'd say this site functions satisfactorily and the standards on this site are just fine. Yes, there are always a a few who abuse this free site, but they usually don't last long. If you have issues with the site's functions or standards, why  not take your complaint to the moderators? They are typically quite responsive.

It does NOT function satifacorily, if you botherd to read all the many comments to the contrary. You, like the mods on this site, have your head(s) firmly in the sand. YOU may find it ok, but many, me included, do not. It IS arcaic like mc1969 says, but nothing is done - long standing members have left because of the lack of action by the mods. You/they don't accept what we are saying. The mods may be responsive, but they are dismissive in their responses. Issues can be fixed, but they don't bother, and that is not being responsive. Last page posting to a response is plain dumb - we're on page 4 now, but if I want to respond to a post on page one, it goes here, at the end = dumb and confusing. Every other forum on the planet does it right, why can't they fix it? Heads in the sand, that's why. The same goes for adding ones system. Why on Earth is it hidden? It should be accessed from ones profile - we shouldn't have to go digging around to find out where to include it.

@nonoise

"Look mommy, I made poopie in the toilet. Aren’t you proud of me?" Freud is laughing it up somewhere, wishing he could rewrite some of his findings.

Aging is something everyone has to face sooner or later. When you see what you posted I think we can both agree you have moved beyond having a "senior moment" and that dementia may have reared its ugly head. hey, it can happen, I won’t beat you up, I’ll get you the help you need.

First. do you have a phone or a camera? Do you actually even own any audio equipment or do you primarily listen in your car? Maybe you lack speakers and just like to hum to yourself? Whatever, its all good. Please reply and I will try and help best I can. if you need professional help that is beyond the scope of this thread. Just start a new one, "Man With Poopy Diaper and Early Signs of Dementia Seeks Help". In the meantime I have provided a link for additional info HERE.

Another reason for posting your Virtual…members can do a search for equipment they are interested in and if it’s listed in a Virtual System it will show, they can PM the poster for information and opinions. It’s a nice feature.
Go to the Virtual Systems page and type in the Search box.

@tomic601 thanks, you’re too kind 😎

@nonoise

Why are you so miserable? Wait, I know, you see pics of all these fantastic systems built by audio fanatics and you got nothing...

If I were you I guess I would be miserable. In all fairness though you don't behave like a 12 year old, more like a misguided old soul that wishes he had a SOA 9.3.8 immersive surround system with a 120 inch 4K screen like mine and is just envious.

@linnvolk

I really like your setup, looks very inviting. Did you triamp your speakers?

@emergingsoul

Your idea counters what I value.  I value posting systems in reference to questions and advice given.  I don’t want there to be an elite and I don’t care to see your stable of cars.  I posted this question because I had thought that many were intimidated by the high value systems.  I was hoping that this thread would help people to understand the value of posting their system and encourage members to look to the educational and communication value of posting vs looking at this as who has bragging rights.  Someone on this board is the wealthiest and someone is the poorest and I don’t care who these folks might be.

I think there should be a section highlighting pictures of homes and cars for all those people who have Noteworthy Systems, and others too who are inclined to share they're lifestyles.

We’ll call it lifestyles of the well to do and famous audiophiles.

Architectural digest never shows pictures of hi-fi systems.

I guess you guys have never seen a user-friendly website designed in this century that wasn't a giant pain to use ... Way to lower the already ridiculously low standards here.

Overall, I'd say this site functions satisfactorily and the standards on this site are just fine. Yes, there are always a a few who abuse this free site, but they usually don't last long. Bet you have. Bet the lot of you have. This place is notorious for the anal crevasses that reside here.

Great, another 12 yr old.

Hey @kota1 In your fanatic quest to be all consumingly correct, your field of vision must narrow a lot. The "code" I was referring to were the inane statements you made right before mine (see your posts above @10:19pm and 11:17as) and have not much to do with the OP’s premise.

All the best,
Nonoise

i will speak to anyone and listen their opinions with or without photos...

😊

I did not believe a second an image could convey the soundfield experience no more than the price tag and the listener real happiness...

And to be frank and candid i only trust for great soundfield heavily modified small dedicated acoustic room, which exclude almost everyone here...😁😁😊

Being on headphone now i am myself excluded from my own trust ... 😊

I will listen to myself in spite of this as i will listen to you even if your speakers are in a living room  and even if there is no image of this ...

«Sound is a very light but real impression »--Anonymus deaf and blind audiophile

This prompted me to finally post mine.  No eye candy here, but endless enjoyment for me. If I had twice the income and twice the time, things might (?) be different.  I was greatly helped with both this system and my previous one by Joe (dad) and Mike (son) Heusi, currently dba "Timbre" here in the Houston area.

@mc1969

It is archaic, but posting your system does not require the webmaster’s help and if you need help, see first page of this thread.

@mc1969

That is not how it normally works.  Maybe there is a temporary glitch, but while the menus are a bit tricky to navigate to the right place it is simple to create one or more systems, attach photos, and identify components.

@nonoise

My system is in my profile per my "code", thank you for proving my point in the follow up post:

This website is so archaic you cannot post your system or see anyone's system with out contacting web support.

For someone who laid down the gauntlet and proceeded to betray his own code in his very next post and then go onto some massive projection is a strange thing to behold.

Amusing, but strange. Please, by all means, stick to your code and stop posting.

All the best,
Nonoise

It just occurred to me that every belligerent, annoying troll I have encountered on audio forums (ALL of them), are grandiose at typing, shouting and insulting others, yet rarely have a system of their own posted. They have grandiose views of themselves, but can't back up a nickel of their BS.

From now on I'm not going to answer questions about components or systems unless the OP has posted their system.

@milpai, like a few others mentioned--maybe more than a few?-- it was just so non-intuitive and I hadn't read that it was a thing before now. Since a few folks provided some simple steps, I took the plunge as I'm sure some others did, too.

@pcrhkr

Nice system. Clearly well chosen. I have a Prima Luna integrated and think it sounds great. I don’t think you need be hesitant at all to show it. Pride of ownership comes from the passion and effort you put in carefully choosing and integrating your system.

One of the principles that Robert Harley points out in The Complete guide to High End Audio is that you need not spend a fortune to put together a great system. The comparison is really to what is typical… which I guess is tv speakers… or PC speakers. I am sure yours sounds hugely better and can serve to help other folks building modest systems or starting out,

coralkong -- thanks for the correction!!! I knew I had the cliche wrong, but when I went into google in an attempt to get the proper wording, I discovered that google ain't the best place to receive grammatical advice. Blame it on Saturday Morning brain freeze.

To be sure, this chat room is truly wonderful, as it's filled with highly intelligent folks caught up in the madness of wanting to listen to their music with the best possible fidelity. I spend a ridiculous amount of time on it, too. I got to concur, though, that if you have any urge to transact business or look at pictures, it's the proverbial riddle caught up in an enigma.

I don't want to be robbed.

Now the bad guys know that you are a good target.  Best be safe and delete your post.

I think that we can all agree that this forum is a mess from a UI standpoint, but we are getting what we pay for.

@daveteauk

You bring up a great point about persons in far places not using the A'gon Buy and Sell pages.  Equally relevant really for anyone not using the Buy and Sell pages.

I may be mistaken about the posting of pictures, but I really think that I have seen system pages with only written descriptions and no pictures.

In any case have a great day.

I'd be happy to post my system for reference in interactions but it is very difficult.

@jetter

Your guess is correct. I have never bought or sold on here, as it seems like a mainly USA based forum, which is no use for me to buy/sell as I'm in the UK.

The reason why the mods should be motivated is becausde there's a LOT of confusion as to HOW to do it, as it's not logical where it's placed at the moment. Maybe if one goes from the classified section it may be obvious and logical, but from the main forum page/place it's burried, completely unecessarily so IMO. Why?

It also seems to be a problem for many forum members in general, as this is why this particular post exists - members are complaining that others do not post what their systems are. If it was eisier to find, maybe they would. I attempted to do it when I joined, but couldn't find the place, so gave up.

I did not say that posting one's system is a requirement; I said that the requirement for posting a photo of one's system seems unecessary, to my mind. Why is it a requirement? Why MUST there be a photo?

There are many illogical things to this site; eg. why can't our response to someone's post be placed directly below that post, so everyone knows what/who your response refers to, rather than being pages and pages away? We all don't live on this site 24/7, every second to post an immediate response. So far this has three pages, but if I want to respond to a poster on the 1st page, it appears here, at the very end = illogical. Almost all forums on this planet do it logically, but not here. Your post shows a time of 01:26pm. There is no such time as that - it is either 1:26pm or 13:26. 01:26 is in the AM. Pedantic that may be, but it's a point about the people who run this site.

@daveteauk

While for a handful of people this seems to have caused a problem, for a majority of us it took no time to figure out.  I am guessing that the problem is that you have never bought or sold anything on A'gon so never saw your username and drop down menu on the Audiogon Buy and Sell High End Gear page.  To be honest I don't why Audiogon moderators would be motivated to change the current situation to please those who have not supported the website with their business.  Noting that the cost of selling gear here has gone up.

Not sure why you think posting your system is a requirement, of course it's not.

I read as far as Toddsyr's instructions. Then followed the instructions.

The reason, and the only reason I haven't done it before, is that AG make it ridiculously difficult to find the place to do it! Before looking at toddsyr's post, I went to the LOGICAL place to find it, under one's profile - are you listening moderators? The method you've created here is maddness and not logical at all. It's like you're hiding it and actually DON'T want us to do it! Crazy!

Put an obvious link under our profile info, and not bury it somewhere illogical where no-one would look!

I am not a noob with computers, quite the opposite, and I used to build computers and websites for a living, so I have some experience, but where and how it's hidden is ridiculous.

Many MANY people are having the very same issue fiding the place, like eryoung2k above. And, Why MUST we post a photo of our sysytem?? WHY is that a requirement?

Well, I love music and Audio. Many people on this forum have luxury homes along with very expensive, very nice systems. For some of us, this is the other side of life we normally do not see. It takes courage for the average Joe who lives in a small apartment or town home to show off a system it took years to save for that amounts to pocket change for many people who are on this forum. I had to think twice about it. I am highly out classed here with my system, though, I am very happy with it. I have DYI speakers because I like doing it and can make them challenge speakers 3x what I have in them. It helps with the budget too. It can be a bit overwhelming to imagine 50K speakers and 40K or more of electronics and a 10 -20k turntable. Not to mention cables that cost twice of my whole system! I had someone make a challenge daring me to show what I had. He wanted me to prove I had something. Was a snob. I left up the picture and others were nice to me. This is really not a place for me to show off, or keep up with the Jones, because I cannot  i am here to learn new things, discover new technology, and enjoy discussion from many intelligent people that know more than myself. I share what I have learned over 50 years in audio. This is what it is for me. Sharing and fellowship.

the worlds of esoterica…be they fly fishing, gun dogs, wooden boats, antique salmon trolling plugs, large format camera, aeroplanes…. audio are chock a block full of the complete range of humanity…. sinner to saint, humble to raging egotist…Fly fishing is no exception…. the trophies evident on Christmas Island, Patagonia, NZ, Kamchatka….. the travel $$$ is mid fi or better…..

My approach is to seek out and be sought out by people i enjoy as we transit our short time on this rock…

@bslon is one such…. might that i one day help others as he has done…..

Great system... Congratulations!

But if your system is perhaps mi-fi as you say mine is top hi-fi...😉

You cannot see it in the images... It must be listen to...

The reason why is because i tuned it and modified it ; it is not in my image because it is also inside some components, and to be not attacked by sarcasms i will not show what is over some component... Then i refuse that someone label my system low-fi or mid-fi because of price tag...

Dont take my half joke personal...

Welcome here... Your room is very hospitable and inviting by the way... I cannot say that for mine, i live in the basement of my new house with headphone and my last 500 books and two visiting  dogs 🎧....

A lot of window shoppers om AGON. Stand behind what you say and have. iWelcome you all to look at my mid-fi system.

A lot of window shoppers om AGON. Stand behind what you say and have.  iWelcome you all to look at my mid-fi system.

All these virtual systems available to see are amazing. Nowhere else does it as good. It inspires people to do more with their systems.

The only criticism I offer, is i wish people would better label their descriptions so it’s easier to distinguish, preamp, versus amplifier, versus speaker, versus streamer, etc.

Otherwise great job

Not everyone can put their videos online. Can more members put links of their live recording videos? I love to hear their systems too. Alex/Wavetouch
