I would ask why don’t you post your measurements on your profile? For a newbie, I get it, but for those members here with 500+ posts, its time. :) I can’t imagine the amount of useless recommendations people make because some component helped their system just because there room is out of whack. It would be the equivalent of someone recommending a painting they saw without their glasses on.

I measure in room FR with software in my processor and my preamp. REW is free and that works for most people. I don’t measure components, just how components interact with my room. FYI Looking at the pics of your system I see them with and without panels on the front wall. If it were me I would have measured before and after. I also see that drop ceiling. If it were me I would remove some of the panels and install Auralex Geofusors or T-Fusors in their place. I bet they would slide right in. With that window on the left wall I see that curtain, is that acoustic fabric?

The "audio karens" on this site rarely have a system posted, brag about their (imaginary) creds and luxurious systems, at the end of the day they might as well be living in the basement with an AM radio that is 20 years old with too much time on their hands. Even the most humble system and blurry pic demonstrates the sincerity of the member who is posting. |
I worked in an audio store for two years and worked with and heard hundreds of pieces of equipment in a multitude of configurations including different interconnecting cables, and speaker cables. I’ve worked with professional sound reinforcement equipment and studio recording equipment And I DJ at the Taj Mahal and designed hand made speakers out of rare earth metals for the Sultan of Brunei. I also made secret headphones once for James Bond himself. Oh, did I take any pics! How DARE you....😂 Put up or shut up please!! |
Why are you so miserable? Wait, I know, you see pics of all these fantastic systems built by audio fanatics and you got nothing... If I were you I guess I would be miserable. In all fairness though you don't behave like a 12 year old, more like a misguided old soul that wishes he had a SOA 9.3.8 immersive surround system with a 120 inch 4K screen like mine and is just envious. |
we must NEVER segregate people on this basis... we must 1) If some people feel this is facebook and just like to talk, fine. (segment 1) 2) Then you got trolls that just want attention (segment 2) 3) Then you got noobs that generally need advice (segment 3) 4) Then you got "enthusiasts", the members with audio "kaizen" (look it up) that are saesoned experts. I don’t always agree with them, but they got their system down like THEY want, good (segment 4) The people in segment 2 never post pics cuz they got nothing. The people in segment 3 got no pics cuz they are noobs, all good. The people that pretend they are in segment 4 that got no pics I reshuffle into segment 2. If they can’t even use a camera how in the hell can they operate a turntable or a streamer? Not. They got no business advising anyone, especially segment 3 cuz poor noobs will just burn a hole in their pocket listening to segment 2 trolls. Thus, a pic is generally a good way for people to see if someone is just in segment 1 (fine), or a flaming troll from segment 2. In other words a pic verifies if you are real segment 4 member or not. YMMV 🤟

There is no way I could describe my system in one post, no way. If someone wants to know how to put diffusors up in there room I could yammer and stammer for a while OR yammer and then end with, see my system as an example. If someone asks how do I improve my center channel I could drone on about center channels and in reality only have a two channel system at home OR say look, I aligned my tweeters of all 3 front speakers on the same plane. Then, I added a second center channel above my 120 inch screen to anchor the dialogue better. Without pics good luck figuring out how to do that. Now, let's say I ask for help re: MY system. Do you know much better advice I get here when my system is posted already? It's like specific, dialed in.

BTW, @nonoise |
I think you got your question answered though. About 10% of people who don't post pics don't really care. About another 10% haven't learned how to use the website. The 80% left that don't post pics are the "degenerates" doing the degenerating by hiding their tacky stereo systems with tactless posting skills, simple. |
I have a whole house audio system in a addition to the 9.3.8 system in my media room. I will try and post a pic of my desktop system. If you look at the equipment in my media room I have a Sony TAZH1-ES pre/dac/headphone amp. My Paradigm Reference Active 40 speakers have both XLR and RCA inputs with a toggle switch. The XLR inputs connect to my Marantz processor. The RCA inputs connect to my Sony TAZH1-ES. If I want dedicate two channel all I have to do is flip the toggle switch. You can see the back of those speakers with the plate amps in a pic on my virtual system page. Will try and get the desk top posted too. |
Since we have roughly the same number of posts I could say the same to you. However, you DID post your system so fine, let's discuss. I see windows, hardwood floors, and some fine gear. My opinion is if it were my room I would measure the FR of the room and then drill down on room treatments. |
What does that even mean?? It means that unlike the pretenders in this thread that got nothing but memes to post because they got no game, @ghdprentice doesn’t need to post dumb memes of dogs, he is building an "active center" channel speaker with the kind of "woofer" that we generally mean in this forum (although I get he has two pet dogs from his response). Of course |
Give it a rest, @vonhelmholtz doesn't need advice from a guy that has nothing to post but his "woofers". Just go back to your car and:

Untreated rooms have an uneven frequency response, I meant using room treatments. You can see what I mean if you check out my virtual system, I posted Anthony Grimani's "acoustic recipe". For those of you following along who are concerned about the WAF they make panels that are also decorative, I just used Auralex panels like they would treat a studio with. https://www.soundonsound.com/sound-advice/beginners-guide-acoustic-treatment |
Yep, talk about WAF, she said it was either her or the room treatments and I guess you can see how that worked out.😁 Seriously, I found a great video series of interviews of Anthony Grimani who was also nice enough to exchange e-mail with me. I also received some helpful advice on treating a room for immersive audio from the Dubstage Studios AND Wilhelm Van Balen (owner of Galaxy studios and founder of Auro 3D). The basic blueprint I followed was the Grimani "recipe" which you see I posted as well. Check the :49 minute mark in this video: https://www.youtube.com/live/G0ekssXX7rE?feature=share
