??? Are Manufacturers Killing Our Hobby ???
The problem is not an interest by young people. It's the cost of health insurance, Dental costs, tuition costs, that keep them home with mom and dad. Costs of apartments, rental, or buying, food costs doubled, all  have gone way high with few wage...
Make speakers disappear. Simple, cheap
Dimming the lights with a tube amp is cool.
Network Switches
Not sure how expensive a system it would take to notice differences in Ethernet switches. I have a $30 gigabit switch on a Bluesound 2I and it sounds great. I have about a 10k system. I have heard much more expensive systems that are on better ste...
How large (or small) is the audiophile market?
My opinion is that I think the market is going to slow in a bad economy. It will pick up in a good one. The generation of the 60s, 70s, 80's are dying off. I have a lower cost tube system, Speakers I designed, built, I stream, no investing in clic...
How much power needed to drive 91db speakers?
I have speakers that are 89spl efficient. My 30wpc primaluna with EL34 power tubes has no problem with sound level in a 20ftx 15ft room. I have drapes covering an 8x6 window, fabric furniture and carpet.  The room size and what you have in it is a...
Weird crackling from speakers when preamp connected
Possible power switch. Contacts can carbon up over time and cause this symptom.
Speakers for leading edge, transients, speed and big sound
One of the best speakers I ever heard were the Yamaha NS1000. They make a new series in the place of the NS1000s which are the NS5000 speakers. Worth a listen. https://youtu.be/SJ14fyv9xZo?si=fNHDxfQrs6X3BM_2 The other was the ESS with the Air ...
Audioquest Water interconnects
After you get the Audioquest  Earth and Water cables, all you need is the fertilizer to make it sprout. :)
Speakers sound too bright.
Following the thread I understand you have no carpet no furnishings nothing to dampen the brightness of the speakers. The room is as important as the system. If you put furnishings in the room it's going to affect the sound just as putting carpet...
Potential relief for tinnitus?
Thank you, great information!
How long should high quality speakers last?
Eventually the materials with degrade. Usually this happens so slowly you do not notice any sound difference. It all depends on cone composition on all components. I think you should enjoy the speakers and if you are not happy at some point with ...
PrimaLuna EVO 400 v Cary SLI-100
On My system I tried several solid state preamps amplifiers with my current speakers. I found the Evo 100 to be what I could afford and what sounded best. It was far better than systems three times the power. And my experience it was far better th...
What's the weakest link in my stereo set up? I live in a townhome, so limited on space.
You have some excellent equipment. I live in a townhome as well, and my stereo sits in a 15ft x 20ft open area to a dining room. The ceilings are 25ft high. Because of budget and space limitations I went with an integrated amp setup. I have separa...
Friends hi-fi system not very good, what do you do or say?
Be humble. Be a good friend without being judgemental. To your friends ears, he may like his system, and does not require esoteric electronics to make him happy. My suggestion, enjoy your time with him and the music he likes. You might find some n...
Holy Holostages!!
Carver holographic generator C9 did this a long time ago. I suspect due to much better technology, that this can be accomplished in a smaller package. But as well?  Only a side by side would tell.
