I don't post my system because that is worthless within the overall context of my life experience with audio and equipment. My first system was put together in 1970 and I've changed and upgraded multiple times. I worked in an audio store for two years and worked with and heard hundreds of pieces of equipment in a multitude of configurations including different interconnecting cables, and speaker cables. I've worked with professional sound reinforcement equipment and studio recording equipment. Somehow, you think that by knowing my current equipment suite tells you the sum of my experience? What a joke.
The "audio karens" on this site rarely have a system posted, brag about their (imaginary) creds and luxurious systems, at the end of the day they might as well be living in the basement with an AM radio that is 20 years old with too much time on their hands. Even the most humble system and blurry pic demonstrates the sincerity of the member who is posting. |
I agree with @kota1 and @vonhelmholtz . Guys, put up or shut up as the saying goes. Just based on some of the responses in this thread, I will know to discount anything you have to say in the future...for whatever reason. I don’t care if you live in your mom’s basement and only have old, hand-me-down equipment from your late grandfather. I don’t care if you have a system from Best Buy using the cheapest components possible. What I DO care about is your sincerity, willingness to learn new things, and some kind of show of commitment to this hobby. Too many people on here want everyone else to "take their word for it". No. If you’re too ashamed, or too stupid (technically ignorant?), or whatever your lame excuse is to post your system on here, then I really have no need for you to chime in when I have a question or ask for an opinion on mine.

I think you are mis-interpreting (at least sincere Audiogoners) the wish that everyone would post their gear. Its not who has the loudest exhaust at Cars & Coffee, its about learning everyone's journey and perhaps learning/informing others. For instance if your system listed a Marantz * and another member is curious about acquiring one, you might be able to help them avoid some of the pitfalls and balancing those with the joy you derive from same. Too many, especially the arrogant ones, believe its about a measuring stick somehow.
Relax, share or dont share your gear, nobody really gives a heck. Those that do however form connections with others and can learn and improve. For instance, if I post something about achieving neutrality and you look at my system, you will know for certain that I can't possibly achieve neutrality with the gear I have. Now, those that have similar gear looking to dial back the warmth might learn from my mistakes.
Again, its a community but the only way to receive the community benefits is to become a part of it rather than a the occasional flyby snarkiness. |
I worked in an audio store for two years and worked with and heard hundreds of pieces of equipment in a multitude of configurations including different interconnecting cables, and speaker cables. I’ve worked with professional sound reinforcement equipment and studio recording equipment And I DJ at the Taj Mahal and designed hand made speakers out of rare earth metals for the Sultan of Brunei. I also made secret headphones once for James Bond himself. Oh, did I take any pics! How DARE you....😂 Put up or shut up please!! |

I forgot to say that because as you said you are a part-timer here , you dont know that Audiogon is ALREADY an high end site covering all aspects of the experience , then nobody need your opinion about what Audiogon must be , because reading your simplistic description , Audiogon is already that and more... What we need is posters who think before whining about someone or about this site... We dont need your feelings about my arguments, we need your arguments about any posts, and nobody in audiogon will ask you how to transform audiogon in an high end site... it could be news to you, but audiogon is already one high end site..

You'll have to accept that we don't need your permission to post here, even if it's response to your question or opinion. Also, it's likely that none of us care if you live in your mom's basement. |
Adults trust adults on their words... So useful or meaningful photos of a system could be, we are supposed to be friendly and polite.. I dont understand the bullying and blackmail and threats to anybody... Why ? Because it is evident people proud of their audio system will put it here in image anyway ... Some prefer discretion because their own average system is not in a so beautiful room...That means nothing about their life experience...Some had very beatiful room and system and dont want to put it here... They are free and i will listen and speak to them anyway... My first system photos here were with average components in a completely "crazy/" homemade laboratory acoustic room... I learned acoustic with one year full time experiments each day... I am confident in myself and for the sake and motivation of others who dont own costly system , i posted mine, so ridiculous it appear to be for the eyes here... The title of my virtual system page is " top audiophile experience for the non wealthy " Most commentaries i received even by private emails were sarcasms by idiots... Now my system had improved esthetically 😊 because i did no more own a dedicated acoustic room but headphone... I posted images of my three components... I am proud not of my components so much, but about the way i optimized them MYSELF to reach a TOP soundfield at peanuts costs... but it cannot be seen in an image.. I dont judge people on their virtual system image or not... i will read any good faith poster, and i am here to discuss with "friends" not only about specific audio questions but more general one about music and sound... My main interest now is no more improving my system , it is done to my utmost satisfaction... My main interest is about the question : what is sound ? What is hearing a sound ? I dont appreciate "totalitarian" demands for images and blackmailing people insinuating they are not worthy of trust because they dont put their room in display...
I dont like those who despise other people for this reason... Trust, respect, fair discussions matter more than image of your supposed "competency" because you own a 50,000 bucks system... I smile at this "naiveté"... Audio is about acoustic not about gear cost or appearance... And by the way acoustic did not reduce to costly panels on a wall... I learned this in my experiments.. And photos dont tell this story at all ... By the way the OP question is a legitimate interesting question... We are free to answer it or not...
«Some are so proud to have quit their mother basement even thirty years after the fact that they cannot resist to post images to prove it» Anonymus audiogon poster 😁 «Our mother womb is the best dedicated acoustic room » -- Groucho Marx 🤓 |
I have not posted my system in this forum because I think that it is nobody's business what kind of gear that I have. I don't make a lot of posts on this forum anyway. Most posts that I have made are regarding gear that I have owned. For me, my music systems are mechanisms for listening to, discovering, and enjoying music. The music is most important. Beyond that, I want the system to be relatively simple and I want it to be relatively unobtrusive in my room. I love Roon because it is a great interface and sounds good in various places in my house. I am an avid fly fisher, and lots of people that enjoy that sport are crazy about expensive gear. In my opinion, audiophiles are far crazier about gear than people who fly fish. Fly Fishing on-line forums, however, do not have special sections on these forums for listing all of the crazy expensive gear that they have. Just saying. |
@speedthrills I used an iPad, that’s probably the simplist way. First, take and edit your photos. Then: Click on your profile box, top right of the page You can keep it private while you put it all together and you can save and continue (edit) building it later. Once you’re done, make it public. If you get stuck, you can go back to Help and ask Tammy (Admin) for help, she’s great. |
Have you also noticed that members mentor others with equal attention regardless of how expensive their personal gear might be? Very few were gifted at birth the ability to purchase expensive gear. Most spent a good part of their lives living within a limited budget, but this hobby seems to attract older people and some, when retired, treat themselves to items that they couldn’t afford while supporting a family. Most remember the challenges of building systems at various price points.

@toddsyr same results for me, logged in with safari and tried it. got the same red bar even though I'm logged in and named my system. Not worth the continued efforts and posts about it. You'd think that after all these years Agon would have a functional and friendly site.... |
kota1 has turned into quite the troll, hasn't he? The reason I posted the way I did was due to the holier than thou attitude that came with some of the first few posts, which I see have been deleted. Hey, we still remember the gist. If you want to show your shrine and demand obsequence, then expect the agnostics to sound off. All the best, |
@kota1 All anyone here needs to do is go back and look at your posts and try to remember the ones you deleted and they'll know who to believe. All the best, |
@nonoise , lol. Fair enough. Weep no more. |
@coralkong 👍😀👍 No harm, no biggie. All the best, |
All these virtual systems available to see are amazing. Nowhere else does it as good. It inspires people to do more with their systems. The only criticism I offer, is i wish people would better label their descriptions so it’s easier to distinguish, preamp, versus amplifier, versus speaker, versus streamer, etc. Otherwise great job |
Great system... Congratulations! But if your system is perhaps mi-fi as you say mine is top hi-fi...😉 You cannot see it in the images... It must be listen to... The reason why is because i tuned it and modified it ; it is not in my image because it is also inside some components, and to be not attacked by sarcasms i will not show what is over some component... Then i refuse that someone label my system low-fi or mid-fi because of price tag...
Dont take my half joke personal... Welcome here... Your room is very hospitable and inviting by the way... I cannot say that for mine, i live in the basement of my new house with headphone and my last 500 books and two visiting dogs 🎧....

the worlds of esoterica…be they fly fishing, gun dogs, wooden boats, antique salmon trolling plugs, large format camera, aeroplanes…. audio are chock a block full of the complete range of humanity…. sinner to saint, humble to raging egotist…Fly fishing is no exception…. the trophies evident on Christmas Island, Patagonia, NZ, Kamchatka….. the travel $$$ is mid fi or better….. My approach is to seek out and be sought out by people i enjoy as we transit our short time on this rock… @bslon is one such…. might that i one day help others as he has done….. |
Well, I love music and Audio. Many people on this forum have luxury homes along with very expensive, very nice systems. For some of us, this is the other side of life we normally do not see. It takes courage for the average Joe who lives in a small apartment or town home to show off a system it took years to save for that amounts to pocket change for many people who are on this forum. I had to think twice about it. I am highly out classed here with my system, though, I am very happy with it. I have DYI speakers because I like doing it and can make them challenge speakers 3x what I have in them. It helps with the budget too. It can be a bit overwhelming to imagine 50K speakers and 40K or more of electronics and a 10 -20k turntable. Not to mention cables that cost twice of my whole system! I had someone make a challenge daring me to show what I had. He wanted me to prove I had something. Was a snob. I left up the picture and others were nice to me. This is really not a place for me to show off, or keep up with the Jones, because I cannot i am here to learn new things, discover new technology, and enjoy discussion from many intelligent people that know more than myself. I share what I have learned over 50 years in audio. This is what it is for me. Sharing and fellowship. |
I read as far as Toddsyr's instructions. Then followed the instructions. The reason, and the only reason I haven't done it before, is that AG make it ridiculously difficult to find the place to do it! Before looking at toddsyr's post, I went to the LOGICAL place to find it, under one's profile - are you listening moderators? The method you've created here is maddness and not logical at all. It's like you're hiding it and actually DON'T want us to do it! Crazy! Put an obvious link under our profile info, and not bury it somewhere illogical where no-one would look! I am not a noob with computers, quite the opposite, and I used to build computers and websites for a living, so I have some experience, but where and how it's hidden is ridiculous. Many MANY people are having the very same issue fiding the place, like eryoung2k above. And, Why MUST we post a photo of our sysytem?? WHY is that a requirement? |
While for a handful of people this seems to have caused a problem, for a majority of us it took no time to figure out. I am guessing that the problem is that you have never bought or sold anything on A'gon so never saw your username and drop down menu on the Audiogon Buy and Sell High End Gear page. To be honest I don't why Audiogon moderators would be motivated to change the current situation to please those who have not supported the website with their business. Noting that the cost of selling gear here has gone up. Not sure why you think posting your system is a requirement, of course it's not. |
Your guess is correct. I have never bought or sold on here, as it seems like a mainly USA based forum, which is no use for me to buy/sell as I'm in the UK. The reason why the mods should be motivated is becausde there's a LOT of confusion as to HOW to do it, as it's not logical where it's placed at the moment. Maybe if one goes from the classified section it may be obvious and logical, but from the main forum page/place it's burried, completely unecessarily so IMO. Why? It also seems to be a problem for many forum members in general, as this is why this particular post exists - members are complaining that others do not post what their systems are. If it was eisier to find, maybe they would. I attempted to do it when I joined, but couldn't find the place, so gave up. I did not say that posting one's system is a requirement; I said that the requirement for posting a photo of one's system seems unecessary, to my mind. Why is it a requirement? Why MUST there be a photo? There are many illogical things to this site; eg. why can't our response to someone's post be placed directly below that post, so everyone knows what/who your response refers to, rather than being pages and pages away? We all don't live on this site 24/7, every second to post an immediate response. So far this has three pages, but if I want to respond to a poster on the 1st page, it appears here, at the very end = illogical. Almost all forums on this planet do it logically, but not here. Your post shows a time of 01:26pm. There is no such time as that - it is either 1:26pm or 13:26. 01:26 is in the AM. Pedantic that may be, but it's a point about the people who run this site. |
You bring up a great point about persons in far places not using the A'gon Buy and Sell pages. Equally relevant really for anyone not using the Buy and Sell pages. I may be mistaken about the posting of pictures, but I really think that I have seen system pages with only written descriptions and no pictures. In any case have a great day. |
