I bought the vinyl. It's enjoyable, but I was amazed at the quality of the songs from these 70s something guys.
@audi-owe +1000 I bought the Blu-Ray Audio/CD version and as dyed in the wool Stones fan it's bloody awful. Previouly, Dirty Work was the worst but this takes the biscuit. Dross, dross, dross. Jagger knows how to make really great solo albums why he didn't do that and stick a Stones label on it only heaven knows. |
The only issue I have is a bunch of 80 year olds doing the same old act. No real progression of the music that one would expect from a lifetime of new experiences. Kinda sad really. Still a fan but only of the music they made that was somewhat innovative back then and suited their age at the time. I grew up with it after all. |
Audi-Owe…if not for the greatness of their earlier work, they would probably never have gotten to the Mick Taylor years. They were a sensation from the get-go, a grittier, bluesier alternative to The Beatles, with tentpole mega hits like The Last Time, Satisfaction, Paint It Black, and Sympathy For The Devil…before Brian Jones’ passing. I pick Let It Bleed as the pinnacle, just as Taylor signed on. |
Much deserved ink and buzz over the Stones for many years. I was hoping for an interesting song or two along the lines of Blue and Lonesome so purchased the deluxe package, which is OK but missing the authentic rawness of days gone by. Saw the '72 Exile tour, which has never been equalled by another concert in my book. Mick Taylor early years were indeed the best, but Keith is the engine that powers the band. It's cool that Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts are on the album, but not in any way I could notice. |
As a teen I was a big Stones fan. In 1979 their tour came through Chicago. I told my best bud " We gotta see the Stones. Their all mid 30's now and this will probably be their last tour". Boy was I wrong, lol. 35 was old to a 16 year old. I have alot of their albums. Most are not great quality. Exile probably worst. Appearently it was recorded on some moble gear. Probably too much dr*gs and alc*hol for them and crew to care about quality. Undercover is surpriseingly good on vinyl. Very clear, dynamic and that machine gun guitar riff is goes way beyond speakers.

Saw them on this tour and couldn't believe it. Figured might be the last time seeing them - they are still going strong. Another 5 years in them at least. 4 or 5 classic hit have songs never sounded better - on CD record or live. Easy decision to go see them again if the opportunity arises. At this point they are so dialled in it's crazy. Obviously having a lot of fun too. |
