Cold as ice does not sound good to me. What do you mean by "cold as ice". I should say, I do like the 802D as well.
B&W 802 Diamonds
I just purchased a pair of B&W 802 Diamonds. Playing them on a Mac 404 Amp, Mac 2300 Pre Amplifier, Mac 301 CD Player and Michelle Gyro turntable with a Denon DL160 MC cartridge. Using Analysis oval 9 speaker cables and balanced oval crystal interconnects. Also running a Chang power conditioner.
These speakers sound absolutely amazing right out of the box and cold as ice. The base is strong and accurate, mids are smooth and very detailed as is the diamond tweeter. Sound stage is deep, wide and surprisingly tall. I've read where people say it takes about 2 months for them to really break in and start sounding good. I can't imagine them getting any better and they have been playing now for about 4 hours. If anyone is thinking about buying the new 802's, don't hesitate. They are worth every penny.
