Please share pics of what inside YOUR power conditioners

Hi all,

How to share pics here? Can we?

I’m curious to see what INSIDE of your power conditioners or power distribution If you have ever opened them up and pictured.

Please kindly add brand and model as well.
I’m not interested for their sound signatures or how they sound in your system …. Just pics.
Please, PM me if we aren’t allowed to add pics here.

Thanks

I' might do it, except it's under a rack and too heavy to move due to my age and rotator cuff surgery (Silvercircle Pure Power One 50).  Pretty sure there's a huge transformer in there.

Weight is your friend in power. Get someone to help you.   the only way to really get the noise out of AC is to rectiy it and then invert it.  Thus I have a problem with "conditioners".

@nasaman

You've been here long enough to know that pictures are allowed. They're posted every day.

Based on the pics so far, the common theme for power conditioners seems to start with a big ass transformer.

@rcprince thanks for the heads up. I put it on my google drive. See if this works.  Not mine, but just like my PP10 (PS Audio)

Here's two shots of what's inside my AQ Niagara 1200:

All the best,
Nonoise

@bigtwin Yup, that’s the one I use!

@kota1 The challenge there is replacing those deuterium crystals. 😜

don't have one.

i use a furman to plug in all but the amps, amps go to wall.

monitors voltage, shuts off if line is too low or too high.

happens during storms, or in the winter, when no one is using the ac

A Bryston Bit 15 is basically a giant toroidal transformer and some small bits and weighs a lot, which is really a gravity thing.

I've always found it a bit odd there is so much talk about dirty power, and so much money spent equipment to provide the absolute best signal and yet so many members just plug their amps directly into the wall.  I use my Furman for two reasons.  First, it filters out all the line noise and ground loops, and for the protection of my very expensive equipment against power surge damage, no matter how rare the chance of that is.  My Furman can deliver 20 amps of current, and my entire system only draws about 5 amps, so I'm not concerned about lack of power for the momentary spikes.  I've heard no improvement in sound when I've tried the amps plugged directly into the wall, so I don't do it.  Having the Furman at the beginning of the electrical chain gives me peace of mind and you can't out a price on that.

these things are glorified power switches. They contain heatsinks, capacitors and transformers, and somehow this is all for the better.

Never mind all the wonderful power supplies that exist in your components.

Unless you live in apartment building where everybody likes to dry their hair all the time and has old refrigerators, you really really really don’t need this thing.

It seems to be a fad where everyone feels they need it.

The real noise problems are the damn landscapers and the leaf blower’s surrounding you from all your neighbors. When the hell are they gonna solve this landscaper noise problem, it’s getting worse, they don’t use mufflers on their machines. Absolutely horrifying.

I'm not using power conditioning any longer but this is the inside of my former PC the ExactPower 2000

My former Running Springs Dmitri passive conditioner... by the way, Atmasphere writes that only the active ones have the meaning...

Yes indeed landscaping power tools need innovation to quiet them down! I am also tired of hearing it from inside my home.

However, noise on the AC line is a different sort of noise that aggravates me and others. This noise is not like trace DC levels causing tranny buzzing etc… No, rather this is the type of junk on the AC line that robs music of its realism. Junk that interferes with realism, not noise that you hear through a driver.

Yes, all this noise and junk is real. Both yard care and riding in on our AC lines.

Here's a picture of my power conditioner.

And here's one from a different angle.

This discussion made me think of cleaning my own Torus, so I opened it and made a few photos but I don’t know how to attach them in a message. Can someone help me please ?

@senza you need to upload the photos someplace Imgur works well for me, once they are uploaded just copy/paste them into the thread.

@markiew

What did the Fo.q tape do for the sound compared to the stock Puritan 156? Thanks.

@grannyring By the time I applied it to the PSM156, not a huge amount. When I applied it to the Zenith Mk3, the Phoenix USB and the Farad supply for the M Scaler, big improvement! More detailed, more open sound. The sound really came out of the speakers and more into the room. Better stereo picture and more life. A pixie dust on the whole proceedings, moving things from good to wow!

So whether the Zenith and Farad were bad, or the PSM good, or more likely, that once you kill the noise you cant kill it any more, by the time I did the PSM and amps, I didnt see a large difference by then. To begin with though, amazing
