Hey K.....tt, Do you even have speakers??

If so, please enlighten us all as to your current system!  My guess is casio clock radio, on isolation platforms in a tuned room of course!

I was just reflecting on 9 years of this hobby, and every pair of my 50+ speakers has brought me immense satisfaction.  Why are you so sad and disgruntled but more importantly, if you hate hifi, mainly speakers, why do you come here?

cue crickets...

and every pair of my 50+ speakers has brought me immense satisfaction.
I doubt you would need 50+ speakers if you were truly satisfied. It looks like youve been stuck on the speaker merry go round for the past 9 years.
b_limpo - As Groucho Marx ✒️ 👀 quipped to the contestant who told him she had ten children, I like my cigar too but I take it out sometimes.
If my math is correct, that is about one pair of speakers every two months over nine years. Wow....
"If my math is correct, that is about one pair of speakers every two months over nine years. Wow...."
That is some dedication to weight lifting.
Not to say I don’t find K—t super annoying, but I absolutely agree. Anyone who has owned that many speakers is not enjoying them as much as they think.   If you have over maybe 20 different pairs of speakers over your lifetime, you just might be obsessing over gear and not music.
Hmmmm, wasn’t it Einstein who opined that insanity is repeating the same thing over and over and expecting different results? 😛
this post is so childish.

Didn't your mothers teach you all if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing. I don't feel this thread is very suiting for these forms or any for that matter. we are past the time in human development for this sort of thing, its harassment and bullying. if you don't like someone or someone's posts don't read them. seriously don't you all have better things to do then flame each other on forms.  go listen to some music or take a walk, hug your significant other or children. stop these trolling threads its below you.

i really did not pay that much attention to the post, I ignored owning 50 pairs of speakers, I was mostly curious to know what speakers Kenjit is using these days for his own personal use?  Maybe relevant to the  discussion or maybe not.

To be fair, I know one guy that LOVES cars and has owned just about as many cars as B_Limo over the same period.

Each for a different reason and rarely has he gone upside down on the buy/sell.
50+ pairs of speakers!!! That's mind boggling. I've had my present von Schweikert's 15 years and before that some nice MartinLogans for 13 and before that Klipsch Cornwalls for about 10 years....

OK, just to bring the averages down, I have had the same pair of speakers since 1984---Apogee Scintilla Ribbons.  Still have them and enjoy them more than ever.
Note to self... it’s not wise to start threads after a few whisky’s 🥴

I compiled a list.  I can remember 22 different pairs, and 4 subs.  I am a bit of a speaker (and stereo equipment) lover.  I’d still have about 6 pairs of those speakers right now if I had that kind of $, but if I had that $ I’d be buying more expensive equipment.
But yeah, I get lots of enjoyment from this hobby and my stereo’s.  I love music as well.  Listen to everything.  Classical, Electronic, Jazz, Female Vocals.  You name it and I either already love it or can!  There’s alot to appreciate about all types of musical artist and it is fully realized on a good system.  I definitely listen to music, but it’s only because my system gets out of the way.

Also, I enjoy helping others.  I have helped 4 friends, my Brother and my Mother with great set-ups 😁.  I’ve also helped people from this site, in any way I can for them to enjoy their music on their systems for their taste in musical attributes of a system.  I have spent many hours on the phone talking audio with people from this site.  It’s fun!

I should have just shortened the o.p. and asked what Kenjits speakers are and stopped, period.

Of course he answers they are “custom tuned” with no other added info as to what drivers, enclosure, crossovers, etc.  When people are excited and passionate about their system and this hobby, they are excited to share that experience with others, even if strangers on an audio site.

Audiogon and its participants in forums is what educated me about this hobby and got me to where I am today in this hobby!
@ kenjit

" i use a pair of pmc tb2 and some other custom tuned DIY"

So , are the pmc tb2s devoid of all of the myths and dirty secrets issues that you post about, and if so how? Also, tell us more about your custom tuned diy speakers .
I’m familiar with the PMCs mentioned. These are great stand mounts compared to many available for the price. I can’t imagine anyone owning them that feels they are a ripoff. Or that the manufacturer could have given the buyer so much more, if only they were not so greedy or corrupt. So kenjit, are these the example or the exception to your proclamations of the horrid state of non-customized speakers available to the market?
Someone needs to be removed from Audiogon.

Anyone who has purchased that many speakers must have a problem.  That’s crazy.
Sounds like @b_limo has a lot of experience with a lot of speakers.

FWIW I run 7 different pair currently in seven different rooms. Perhaps I should consider turning in my audiophile card?

*S* Any speaker that you like/love is Valid..if only to yourself.  Ultimately, that's what counts, right?  To paraphrase, different gears for different ears. (Oh, stop groaning...you come up with better..)

A recent OP claimed 30 different amps with 12 different speakers over 5.5 years...querying that claim, he has somewhat rational explanation for such behaviour.  Fine...takes a lot of souls to fill a highway...*shrug*

Personally, I've 12 pairs, 3 subs...2/3rds of which are in line currently. This doesn't include 2 pairs 'under construction', and a motley group of this 'n that which face some sort of cruel and ghastly fate at my hands....

And that doesn't include the materials I have, on hand, to create (OMG!) 2 pairs of DML's....just because I feel the need to do so....

"WTF, Why?!"  You may ask...

I could threaten to hook them all up, @ once, play them at ungodly levels, and attempt to create a sonic singularity....or some other muddy secret for y'all to behold...."A tale, told by an idiot..."  Or, looking outside..."It's the Dark side of the moon...."

No, it's just me, wasting your eyes and semi-conscious reading this nonsense..*L*

Carry on, kenjit...Someone's got to be the devil's advocate. *G* ;)
Am I missing something here. Kenjit is being  ridiculed  because he has owned more speakers than most. I have had at least 30 pairs in the last 2 1/2 years. In fact 17 at one time.  Many of the identical model. I really enjoyed listening to each pair. Some more than others I suppose. They were all considered vintage. And many were highly coveted as well. I refinished them, recapped them and generally did some quite nice restoration work on them that I am proud of. If would say I have learned a lot about vintage sound over  the last couple of years.
Quite often I had 6 pairs set up in my listening room. An example was Ditton 44, AR9's, IMF TLS 50's infinity Kappa 8, JBL 100's,  Agora B's all in beautiful condition. Now that was fun.
I Then sold most of them them at a reasonable price for someone else to enjoy. Gradually the profits paid for my hobby and  I ended up with what I think is a very nice system.
I don't buy now like I use to because I am as high up the audio chain as I care to go at the moment.

Variety is the spice of life. Keep buying those speakers and whatever else you want to.

For quite a while I thought the thread was about me. What with the Casio clock radio and isolation in a tuned room comment in the OP, and of course I do not have speakers. My Clever Lil Clocks sitting around are Casios. K___tt in the OP misspelled both Kenjit and Kait.
So kenjit, are these the example or the exception to your proclamations of the horrid state of non-customized speakers available to the market?

So , are the pmc tb2s devoid of all of the myths and dirty secrets issues that you post about, and if so how?

No they are far from perfect. What does it prove by knowing what speakers i own?

Also, tell us more about your custom tuned diy speakers
Again, why do you need to know this? what are you trying to prove?
Why would you not want to share information about your custom dyi speakers, you know spread your knowledge of what you did with crossovers, parts, cabinet materials and construction, etc etc. so others could benefit
The custom tuned speakers are not finalized. They are experimental and just for fun. Anybody is free to do the same. And there are already many DIY designs you can build that can be found online.
C'mon kenjit! Surely you can share some of your unparalleled knowledge regarding speaker building. Give us a breakdown on what you are customizing, components you're using, cabinet design, etc.
That is, if they actually exist somewhere besides in your head.....

@thecarpathian

what speakers do you have? I'm happy to identify all the problems with them if you tell us what you have.
I have speakers in several rooms in my humble abode.  Each room has gone through a couple of upgrades.  It is not impossible to have a few dozen speakers go through a home over a decade, especially if you are only doing a loaner-demo.

On another note, I was at my Sister's over the holiday last week, and she has a sign in her kitchen that says something to the effect "If you are a mean person, you don't need to be standing here."  I would suggest that is what this blog needs - mean people don't need to be here - go be mean and nasty and full of sarcasm someplace else.  Good puns are always welcome.

Back to lurking mode.
PK, you are misding something.  I was being ridiculed for owning so many different speakers, not Kenjit.

GeoffKait, was not ridiculing you.  You actually have useful stuff to say... sometimes 😬

Kenjit, still don’t believe you have any speakers 👎. Just a keyboard and monitor

kenjit, I didn’t ask if the PMCs were perfect. You didn’t answer my question. In fact you have avoided every question asked of you. As expected.
I'm a little confused by this thread as I'm wondering, who am I supposed to ridicule?
wolf_garcia,

The first one who comes to your mind. Oooops, is it my turn now?
@larry5729,
hopefully you aren’t implying that I should be removed from Audiogon for owning so many speakers...

You are aware that I’m the one who helped you finally nail down and pull the trigger on those awesome Rel subs you have, in addition to talking audio with you on the phone for an hour or two, right? lol

Anyhow, I don’t know why I thought Kenjitt would actually own up and tell us about his speakers, or that he doesn’t have any, but in his usual troll fashion, he dodges every question like an akido master.

Wolf, you shouldn’t ridicule anyone.  It’s not nice.  Do as I say, not as I do 😬
"The custom tuned speakers are not finalized. They are experimental and just for fun. Anybody is free to do the same. And there are already many DIY designs you can build that can be found online. "

OK, soooooo, the people who design the boxes, of which you can find drawings for on the net, they somehow know about speaker design, while the speaker manufacturers and people who design for them are clueless?

Nice...

(I think some foreign state may be meddling with this forum...)

Personally I don't use MDF all that much....makes great countertops, though.

I'd like to think that most of what's occurring here is 'relatively' good-natured teasing over each other's foibles...hopefully, preferably...

I mean,  Everyone has a pair...

(Speakers...stop that...)

Own as many as you want...in any flavour, size, response, cost.  If a Casio cuts the cadence for you, Kewl.
Hire a hall, and invite 50 of them....someone on eBay was selling an enormous 'wall full' of JBL's that would need a ton of amps...and that potentially could be all class D's....

If K has 'mystery' units, fine.  If they curl his toes, wonderful.
But, it does answer the 'original query': Yes, he does.
All gawds' chilllin' gots speakers.

Ok, settled.  Now, let's argue about....cables! Yeah! That's always good for about....*mmmm*....30 odd pages...and I do mean odd....;)

(I'll stop ranting now....)
I think when I get to #901, I'll do it ALL CAPS....seems appropo...
"yes most diy designs are just glorified mdf cabinets. "

So, by extension, as speakers are made of a handful of materials, what is the ideal material the oh enlightened one?
