CAN WE AUDIOPHILES DO OUR PART?
I was amazed, and delighted, when I went to the Cardas website to see that they are doing their part. Go to their website and you'll see their director, Angela Cardas, wearing a mask. If you click on the Cardas Nautilus logo in the upper left corner, you'll see pictures of people there in the factory making masks with sewing machines. I called the company to congratulate them, and spoke with a woman named Darla, who said it was their way, during this economic slump, to keep their employees working and also their way of trying to "do our part."
I'm not writing all this to advertise Cardas products. They are a very good company, but trust your ears, not anything I write, when it comes to buying their products. They do get credit, however, for helping me come to a realization that pushed me in the right direction. I called a woman I am friends with, who is 85 years old and is a good seamstress, to suggest she start making masks. She already was--and is. By phone she has organized several other women to do the same, and right now they are needing more material and elastic. I managed to gather about 50 pounds of material and am starting to gather elastic while also getting more material. But I don't sew. I can't help out with that. Any ideas as to what we--all of us who are good with our ears and focused with our budgets--can do to help out in other ways?
I realize this is an odd topic to bring to an audio forum, but it was a very socially responsible audio company that got me to thinking about it, and frankly I believe I should be socially responsible enough to do what I can to get other people to thinking about it. While also being open to other people's ideas about ways someone like me who is "just an audiophile" can help.
Thank you, in advance, for any and all ideas on this.
I think I've found the basis for the 'deep state' that some find themselves infected by..... ....just a hunch, but I have my insights on occasion.... https://www.redbubble.com/i/t-shirt/Element-Of-Confusion-by-chrismick42/39723852.UIIS2.XYZ |
...and the main symptom is a form of paranoia.... "THEY're out to get us....yet again...." *yawn* So, that's news.... This is what happens when esoteria, be it cables, cars, or 'can electrons find a shorter path' (*HUH?!*) become the main topic.... Eventually, the players paint *excuse* 'retreat to their defensive corners'... Wasn't the entire concept behind this forum to be of some sort of assistance, however quixotic and fruitless in the face of some sinister plan suspected by some? Just wondering...... |
phd1,064 posts07-05-2020 10:47pmglupson, I forgot to mention that I do believe in cable burn-in because the electrons eventually find their shortest path producing a better sound. >>>>Sorry, but you must’ve listened to some fake news because electrons don’t travel in cables. But it’s a pretty thought anyway. 🌸 🌺🌸 |
Serious question. Do those who believe there’s a deep state also believe the government was somehow involved in 9-11? Just curious. You do realize they never found any trace of a plane that supposedly hit the pentagon, right? Nor did any aircraft appear on film taken by cameras pointed right at the pentagon at the time of the explosion. |
Assume ten times more people have contracted the virus than show up in the data, all of whom are perfectly capable of transmitting the virus, including those who have no symptoms. So, is it safe to say 10 million in the US have the virus? 20 million? You tell me. The biggest threat to national security since Pearl Harbor and Cuba Missile Crisis and the government is not only acting like it has ED, it’s fanning the flames. Are we being run by commie rats? |
@millercarbon In the immortal words of Ronald Reagan "There you go again." You couldn't resist bringing your politics into what was started as a person's sincere attempt to find ways to help others. I applaud the OP and others who have shown they have a heart and care about all people. I have a question for you millercarbon. What if you're wrong? If I'm wrong by taking this pandemic seriously and doing everything I can to not just keep myself safe, but also to show respect and responsibility in trying to keep others safe, I was simply inconvenienced. No big deal. If you're wrong and are determined to show that you're not falling for this "hoax" and are not going to take precautions to protect yourself and others, people can die. I'm not willing to take that chance with other people's lives. Here's one for you millercarbon: BLACK LIVES MATTER! I'm hoping that I am wrong about how you will react to that, and I will apologize if I'm wrong, But from opinions you have expressed it sounds like you drank the kool-aid (or as another member corrected me, the Clorox). Tell me I'm wrong about you millercarbon. I want to be wrong. I told you that I will keep my politics off the forums if you will do the same. I kept my word until you posted on this thread. And nobody is bullying you as you whined previously. |
@glupson It is generally accepted that it is OK to start a sentence with "and." People who think it's not proper are probably the same ones who feel it is not good grammar to end a sentence with a preposition. It is. Winston Churchill, an exceptional writer, had a very clever retort to a newspaper that criticized him for ending a sentence with a preposition. Kudos to all of the posters who are expressing reasonable, intelligent, free-thinking, compassionate, empathetic and responsible sentiments towards how we should be looking out for each other during this very real pandemic. I'm not sure how someone can call something a hoax that has killed 130,000 Americans. |
cal91, "@glupson Thanks. I do try to avoid it, but, from time to time, I consciously use it as some kind of emphasis. Now you made me concerned that I do it too often. Ooooops. I am baffled by some of the grammar and spelling I read here. Written by native speakers, no less. geoffkait may be correct. Education may be lacking for some. I "learned" English in two classes a week. It was my fourth, or maybe fifth, language I could communicate in. |
phd, "...the electrons eventually find their shortest path producing a better sound." Not being a cable expert, I read that as "Electrons are very slow learners. It takes them a month to find the shortest path through 50cm of virtually two-dimensional conductor". I just took a mask off and am still wondering what problems you were talking about when you said that masks make people ill. You must have had something specific on your mind. |

@snarbut That was an incredible post and I would like to thank you for risking your own life to help others afflicted with Covid-19. Thank you for explaining to those in denial, or blinded by political allegiance, why we ALL must take this seriously and do our part, which includes sacrifice, to bring this virus under control. @glupson I apologize for jumping on you. After reading all the posts I see that geoffkait started it. ("Are you out of mind? And try to write in complete sentences, glubby. Even better, don’t write at all.") @millercarbon The original post was not political. |
Sometimes it is more important to reveal the truth then to make sure every last word is spelled correctly. Very tired last night and yes dier is spelled dire. I see misspelled words & improperly formed sentences on this thread as well but if you got the time to point them out then your not concerned about this country's future and you're in denial, you can't take the truth. I can understand how some of you see this as hogwash. I'm ok with that but at least I planted a seed and maybe you will see and look at what they are not saying rather then what they are putting out which can be important as well. I talked to a friend about some of this and a lot more in the early 1990's. He asked me what I've been smoking but then he called his brother who is a retired colonel and he confirmed that this information is correct. There is a lot more information to share but this website is not an appropriate platform for this particular subject matter. So you don't like my theory on electrons and how they find their shortest signal path in cabling. How about this one, if you reverse your cabling they will play the music backwards. LOL |
https://youtu.be/MMzd40i8TfA definition of a retired Colonel - a very bitter and pissed off former officer who was passed over for General twice. |
@glupson & @geoffkait Take it outside PLEASE! It was cute for a while (a very short while) now it's just juvenile and silly. I know this makes me a new target, so go ahead, get it out of your system. Someone mentioned listening to Chopin ( a big thumbs up) and Schubert (a thumbs up) and who the hell is Chet Baker? I am looking for the absolute best recording of Chopin's Preludes. I have Rubinstein, Algerich, and Ashkenazy. Anybody have a suggestion? Yes, I am trying to change the subject. From a sincere and humane request for ideas about how we can help people, this thread has devolved into insults, conspiracy theories and downright nastiness. Can't we all just get along? |
cal91Ivan Moravec....Preludes and Nocturnes and frankly anything by him.....It is one of my few transcendant pianists....A master of nuances and pastel colors....All his cd are top of the interpretation....He is more known by envious pianists or admiring one than by the crowds, i dont know how we can veil such a master and let him behind the scene? |
glupson phd, "How about this one, if you reverse your cabling they will play the music backwards." You are late to the party. We already have one directionality expert here. Hey, that’s what phd stands for! Paul his dead 😱 I can’t stop now! |
