CAN WE AUDIOPHILES DO OUR PART?
So we're all tired of hearing about nothing but Covid-19 (or, as I term it, the C-Plague). What can we do, as audiophiles, to help with all this.
I was amazed, and delighted, when I went to the Cardas website to see that they are doing their part. Go to their website and you'll see their director, Angela Cardas, wearing a mask. If you click on the Cardas Nautilus logo in the upper left corner, you'll see pictures of people there in the factory making masks with sewing machines. I called the company to congratulate them, and spoke with a woman named Darla, who said it was their way, during this economic slump, to keep their employees working and also their way of trying to "do our part."
I'm not writing all this to advertise Cardas products. They are a very good company, but trust your ears, not anything I write, when it comes to buying their products. They do get credit, however, for helping me come to a realization that pushed me in the right direction. I called a woman I am friends with, who is 85 years old and is a good seamstress, to suggest she start making masks. She already was--and is. By phone she has organized several other women to do the same, and right now they are needing more material and elastic. I managed to gather about 50 pounds of material and am starting to gather elastic while also getting more material. But I don't sew. I can't help out with that. Any ideas as to what we--all of us who are good with our ears and focused with our budgets--can do to help out in other ways?
I realize this is an odd topic to bring to an audio forum, but it was a very socially responsible audio company that got me to thinking about it, and frankly I believe I should be socially responsible enough to do what I can to get other people to thinking about it. While also being open to other people's ideas about ways someone like me who is "just an audiophile" can help.

Assume ten times more people have contracted the virus than show up in the data, all of whom are perfectly capable of transmitting the virus, including those who have no symptoms. So, is it safe to say 10 million in the US have the virus? 20 million? You tell me. The biggest threat to national security since Pearl Harbor and Cuba Missile Crisis and the government is not only acting like it has ED, it’s fanning the flames. Are we being run by commie rats? |
Serious question. Do those who believe there’s a deep state also believe the government was somehow involved in 9-11? Just curious. You do realize they never found any trace of a plane that supposedly hit the pentagon, right? Nor did any aircraft appear on film taken by cameras pointed right at the pentagon at the time of the explosion. |

phd Somebody mentioned vaccines and guess who’s pushing vaccines, no other then Bill Gates. A billionaire, high school drop-out with no medical background. Someone should check the safety of these vaccines as they may be more harmful then the virus itself. He should be the first one to get the shot on tv with an honest doctor of our choice as a witness. We know that many people are leaving nasty posts on his website and he can’t delete them fast enough! I never said not to protect yourself but don’t wear the mask no more then you have to, for example like driving in your car. Gee, I wonder how their stock is doing today. I better load up! Moderna, the Massachusetts biotechnology company behind a leading effort to create a coronavirus vaccine, announced promising early results from its first human safety tests Monday. The company plans to launch a large clinical trial in July aimed at showing whether the vaccine works. The company reported that in eight patients who had been followed for a month and a half, the vaccine at low and medium doses triggered blood levels of virus-fighting antibodies that were similar or greater than those found in patients who recovered. That would suggest, but doesn’t prove, that it triggers some level of immunity. The antibody-rich blood plasma donated by patients who have recovered is separately being tested to determine whether it is an effective therapy or preventive measure for covid-19. |
I’m more than a little bit disappointed they haven’t tried playing some Slim Whitman music to se if that kills the virus. It worked in Mars Attacks which I assume was a real event. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work here. They have no imagination. Alternatively they could try what was successful in the case of Noriega who was holed up in a bungalow in Panama and that’s play Ted Nugent’s Cat Scratch Fever at space volume 24/7, which probably would have been more effective had Noriega not liked Ted Nugent, intelligence bungled that one, too. But all this talk about the coronavirus dying out in warm weather and just wait for the vaccine is pure poppycock. |

Social distancing. Many people are not practicing social distancing. They might say they are but they’re not. They might even think they are practicing social distancing but they’re not. I see it all the time. People believe social distancing means keep at least six feet from someone in front of you and six feet from someone behind you. But social distancing means keeping at least six feet from anyone in the vicinity, front, back, left right. Second the 6 feet rule is very arbitrary and something that was suggested very early on in the game. But now we know 6 feet is a bare minimum. No wonder social distancing has been a disaster. Come on, guys! |

Think of it like Alien or The Thing. You don’t know who’s got it inside them. So be very cautious. You might have inside you. Everybody should come under suspicion. People are carriers who don’t they have it. You might be a carrier yourself. One assumes there are millions of carriers waltzing around out there. There is no way of knowing. Keep your distance. 12 feet is better than 6 feet. It’s twice as good, actually. I spotted a whole bunch of people who acted like they had no idea what the heck was going on. It’s a good thing they didn’t come waltzing up on me. |
