Your first concert was to see who and when?

I'll kick off with Pink Floyd at The Bay Hotel, Sunderland in February 1969.

Three Dog Night at the Sioux Falls Arena.  My oldest brother and girlfriend took us three siblings of which I was the youngest - aged 12.

Creedence Clearwater Revival, with The Ike and Tina Turner Review opening for them. May 22, 1970. Salt Palace Arena, Salt Lake City. I was 14 years old. I lived in a small rural town about an hour's drive away. My older sister drove me and my friends into the city and waited outside while we saw the show.

Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon tour in Pittsburgh in 1975. Also saw Bob Marleys last concert at Stanley Theatre in Pittsburgh in 1980.

AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and The Dictators at The Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. 1978 I believe.

February 8, 1977.

Kiss - Rock n Roll Over tour.

Omaha, NE - Civic Auditorium.

Sets the bar pretty high for concert experiences with that being the first one for a 13 year old kid.

Yes Live at Scope Norfolk, VA

when I was Stationed in Hampton, VA

US Army, Jackson Browne, Live at Northern Kentucky University.

Elvis Presley - Pontiac Silverdome 12/31/75. Fourth row main floor center. I was 9 1/2 years old. My mom took me - one of my best memories as a kid.

I feel like I always “win” this bar talk. :-)  But, damn, there are some good ones in this string for sure!

(Second concert was Elton John at the Silverdome that following July.)

Restricting my response to rock concerts, The Rolling Stones, Hyde Park London, summer 1969

Kiss at Maple Leaf Gardens (Toronto) April 26, 1976. It was the "Kiss Alive" tour and it was awesome to a 14-year old! I saw them a few months later at Varsity Stadium with Blue Oyster Cult and Artful Dodger. Oh, the good old days!

In 1969 at age 13, my first concert was Creedence Clearwater Revival in Syracuse, NY.

Tickets were $5.00

A couple of years later, I had to pay the outrageous price of $13.00 to see Frank Zappa.

To put that into perspective, I just bought 2 front row tickets to see David Byrne here in Syracuse for $1100.00

Ah, the good ole days.

The Who, the Clash, and T-bone Burnett - Day on the Green Oakland CA. Like ‘83-ish

Kenny Rodgers and the First Addition.  Van Wezel performance & arts center in Sarasota Florida in the early 70's.  ( Just dropped in, to see what condition my conditional was in )

Siouxie and the Banshees at a May Ball in 1980. At the end I saw a guy curled up inside one of the base bins of their 40kw system. I often wonder what happened to his brain.

Iron Butterfly! In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Baby!

Electric Factory Philadelphia 1969.

(1) Typo correction to my prior post ; s/b the GUESS WHO (summer of 1970, not 1979) in Buffalo NY

(2) THE ASSOCIATION (my #1 all-time fave ….) 1970 at university in London, ON

(3) ALICE COOPER (1970 at university in London, ON)

(4j JOHNNY MATHIS (1967 in Toronto, ON ( I was 15….) ….almost forgot about this one ….

1970 or 1971, Linda Ronstadt and Michael Nesmith @ Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette Louisiana. Enjoy the music

My first live show was Bad Company at the Long Island Coliseum in 1977. The Climax Blues Band was the opening act. My friend's mom dropped us off and picked us up. At 13 we thought we were pretty damn cool!

some amazing shows on this thread!

1812 Overture & a Tchaikovsky Symphony at the Royal Albert Hall. I do not remember which orchestra was playing.  It was 1958 or '59. The cannon's echo may still be running round in the Gods!

I was in the local C of E youth club for about 5 years and a few times a year we would go to London, usually the Albert Hall or RFH.  In addition to "classical" concerts (baroque through romantic & 20th century periods) I remember Acker Bilk's Paramount Jazz Band and Monty Sunshine's "Trad Jazz".  We also went to the MJQ at the RFH in (I think) 1961.

Bo Diddley. October 16, 1960.
State of Texas Prison Rodeo, Huntsville, Texas, north of Houston. I was 14, went with my 18 year old sister and her husband.
Outdoor arena. A stage was set up for Bo and his incredible band in the arena.
The Prison Rodeo was an annual event with prisoners as the participants, Even though many of the participants were Black, the bleachers were still segregated at that time. Those stands were rocking while most of the Whites stayed relatively still.

Simon and Garfunkel, Sept 1966, Heinz Hall Pittsburgh.  Homecoming concert University of Pittsburgh

Simon and Garfunkel, Sept 1966, Heinz Hall Pittsburgh.  Homecoming concert University of Pittsburgh

Credence Clearwater Revival, 1968, I believe, in the old Salt Palace, SLC. The warmup act -- Ike and Tina Turner. A strange paring of bands indeed. Tina was more than I could get my 16 year old head around at the time. Wild!

I was 10 years old and I saw Alan Sherman.."Hello Mother ,Hello Father" Atlantic City Steel Pier..N.J...with Mom...like summer 1962...Does this count ?

Gary Puckett and the Union Gap in Kingston, Ontario 1968. I think the venue was Queens University.

Fall 1962, Peter, Paul, & Mary, with a young comedian as an opener, a guy who did this “Noah” routine, Bill Cosby.  He was funny, and PP&M were very dynamic and simply superb.

The Mothers, Phoenix Star Theater (Arizona) right after "Freak Out" was released. Best show I've seen though was Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band with It's a Beautiful Day at the (Long Beach, California) Fox West Coast Theater circa 1972. The gargantuan and very potent joints passing down the audience rows added to the entirely surreal atmosphere of the event.

Arlo Guthrie - my parents took me and my brothers to see him in ~1975 when I was 8. My parents were scandalized that a couple sitting one row in front of us were snorting white powder off a small mirror. Took years for me to realize they were doing coke.

The first concert I went to deliberately was Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers with Bob Dylan in 1984 at Madison Square Garden. Dylan’s career was at a nadir and Petty went on tour with him to support Dylan by introducing his fans to Dylan’s work. Dylan didn’t do himself any favors because he was awful live.

Air Supply, 1980 at Luther College (not the hall Dave Matthews recorded at).  10 years old.

I can't remember the order, but I saw both Jethro Tull and King Crimson, late 1970/early 1971, Colston Hall, Bristol. Both were amazing.

I guess technically, fall of 1978, Mahogany Rush at a high school sock hop. But the first live convert that really affected me was Chicago at Chicago's Navy Pier in the summer of 1980.

Believe it or not, Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera House in NYC in 1968 or so. To this day, I don’t love opera but I very much appreciate the talent of the singers & musicians.

The Jimmy Hendrix Experience at Hunter College in NYC in 1968. I saw him again twice later, but nothing compared to that night in ’68. My mind and ears got completely blown.....

My first real concert was in Canne, France. At an old Roman amphitheater - brilliant venue for the Who. Outstanding concert.
