The Low Volume Loudness Dilemma My Magnepan's are played at quite low volumes about half the time when listening as my wife is nurse and works nights, so I have to keep it quite low when she is sleeping. I also have two REL subs and I am truly amazed at the clarity of the Maggi...
The Audiophile Song - Who Can Relate? I haven't even watched it yet and the comments are making me laugh!
Magnepans VS MartinLogan for detail and sound staging willywonka: "Unfortunately to get a new Magnepan with a ribbon tweeter you need to move up to the 2.7i. Unfortunately, way too big of a speaker for my room." There is a lot of misconception out there that Maggies need a large room. This is not a...
Why are high efficiency speakers preferred for low volume listening? My wife is a nurse and works nights, sleeps during the day. Our bedroom is directly above the listening room. Fully half the time I listen to my system when she is sleeping. My Maggies (84 db sensitivity) at low volume give me so much detail an...
Magnepan 3.7i amp pairing I was running Brystons on my 3.7i. Switched to PS Audio M1200 and haven't missed the Brystons the least bit. More than enough power and yes - the M1200's are class D (hybrid). I used PS Audio M700's for about a year, but the upgrade bug bit me....
Racks, equipment and footers I used cherry on mine (see profile), but maple, oak, walnut, amongst others will work fine. None of these will "sag" over time, even over a 42 plus inch span for those that want a double wide rack.
Racks, equipment and footers Yes, that is essentially it. Each shelf is isolated with small "pucks" that float the shelves individually. The shelves are adjustable in 1 inch increments. The two drawers at the bottom were what I was after in a rack, but nobody built such a r...
Racks, equipment and footers Depending on where you live, I custom build racks to user's needs (# shelves, height, width, etc.) and will deliver and set up with a reasonable radius of where I live. The shelves are all individually isolated and fully adjustable. An example can...
PS Audio Power regenerator I am guessing you are using the P3? or the next one up, the P12? For two years I used the P3 and plugged my Preamp, Transport, Phono preamp, DAC, streamer and PS Audio M700s driving Magnepans into it. Never once had a problem. Upgraded to M1200...
Are your record surfaces as silent as CDs? Have you treated the records with anything? I have albums that are over 40 years old that I treated with LAST (other threads have discussed this product) with excellent results. It does quiet down the surface noise IMO.
Turntable Cartridge upgrade question. Another vote for the HANA ML. Wonderful through the whole spectrum and great bass. Please follow the other suggestions for upgrading your phone stage as you will reap HUGE benefits from an upgrade. I've used Pro-ject, the same Schitt you have a...
The $10,000 Question Some Audiovector speakers would be great. I live close by, I would be happy to take you to the Twin Cities for a day of audiophile shopping. Glad to help out another hobbyist as we are relatively few and far between where we live. Message me ...
What does one need to know about playing old 78 rpm records? A sincere 'thank you' to all respondents! This is truly a place with an abundance of knowledge and it's greatly appreciated!
Does a particular musician’s songwriting and artistry speak to you above all others? Many, too many to list. Songs with lyrics: Dan Fogelberg, Shawn Colvin, more. No lyrics, John Williams, Manheim Steamroller's Fresh Aire series.
Audio stand needed....Moving main components from mechanical room to listening room Depending on where you are located, I custom build (view my system) and will deliver and assemble on-site. Completely customizable to whatever size and configuration needed. |
